The gem of the season!
Having read of course the manga first (and still reading), I was more than overjoyed hearing there would be a drama, especially starring Tamaki Hiroshi whom I`ve been following since WaterBoys the movie.
While the manga is excellent, it is hard to write a manga about music... without music. The drama gave me exactly what I wanted. Excellent music, the goofiness of the manga and a very well balanced cast!

Jan 2007: This is one of the few dramas that made me cracked up like hell almost every episode. The most hilarious jdrama I've seen this year. Gotta love classical music after watching it, thumbs up for the actors for putting alot of effort to make the instrument playing scenes looked as real as possible. Nodame and Chiaki were such a CUTE couple =D Love the cast, Stressmann's weird accent rocks lol. The ending scene was touching, typical but fits perfectly to end this drama. |

From all the dorama i've seen, this one is the most anime-like to date. the actions are sometimes exaggerated nicely but i definitely well-adapted for tv. As the dorama progresses, i found myself getting drawn into the series as i developed an attachment to the characters. As a music-lover, their choices for the difference pieces throughout the series were well-picked and suited both series and character development. A most entertaining series, bravo!! |

FANTASTIC! Best drama of 2006 that I have seen so far. Tamaki Hiroshi really surprised me! He completely threw himself into the role of Chiaki. Ueno Juri as Nodame as well! Although some elements of the story had to be left out due to time (Awwh, why can't dramas be longer sometimes), I felt like the adaptation was expertly achieved. Everyone involved dud an amazing job reproducing what makes Nodame Cantabile really shine in anime and manga. I'm excited for the future! I hope that, following the Paris Special, they continue in some form! |

Une serie vraiment tres agreable a regarder. Des personnages nombreux et sympathiques, des moments droles (pas mal de mimiques tirees du manga ET bien adaptees), une musique geniale (ah, le classique...). Et bien sur Nodame chan ! l'actrice est incroyable et illumine tout (meme si elle n'est pas tres belle).
Dommage que certaines scenes un peu nian nian (dont le dernier episode dans sa quasi totalite) gachent l'impression generale. On sent aussi un certain essouflement a la fin, il etait temps que ca s'arrete. |

One of the most entertaining series of 2006. Ueno Juri plays the role of Noda Megumi, a carefree brilliant pianist who has a love for an anime series and eating. One day she meets the most coveted boy in their music school and instantly falls head over heels for him. He can't say the same about her, but is impressed with her piano playing. Tamaki Hiroshi plays the part of Chiaki Shinishi, Megumi's love interest and one of the wealthiest and most talented people in school. His dream is to become a conductor and to do so he must study abroad, however he has a fear of planes and boats seeing as he had traumatic experiences with both as a child.
Those two meet and their lives change and intertwine with one another. With the help of Streseman who enrolls into the school as a conductor, the musical careers and outlooks of the students there change for the better. The students reach for goals higher than they could have imagined before because their fellow teachers and friends continue to push them to do better than what they initially thought they could accomplish. It was very touching and optimistic, yet down to earth.
This drama was so much fun to watch and I loved the two main characters who had great chemistry with one another. This is one of the most adorable and most memorable coupling in a drama in awhile. The music was beautiful, too. I really hope that they decide to continue with a second season. |

I would have to say that I wasn't expecting a lot from this series but wow, I'm glad that I was completely wrong! Excellent acting from all the cast. I haven't been so immersed in a series for a while that I would have to lose sleep just in order to watch it. The mix between love, comedy and music is the way to go. And Takenaka Naoto's role as Strezman...PERFECT. Absolutely hilarious! I definitely recommend this series and definitely hoping for a special or a 2nd season(maybe). |

Excellent drama with some great classical music. You have to watch this drama with a good stereo/surround system or else you're cheating yourself from the emotional impact of the music... Ueno Juri and Tamaki Hiroshi are cast perfectly as the likable, quirky leads. The only downside is the irritating portrayal of gays as horny, abnormal freaks. Aside from that, this drama is highly recommended. :) |

Very enjoyable drama, that is definitely one thing people can say about this drama. It's also good to see this drama stem away from the university love story type dramas and in that sense it creates its own genre. I really loved it - the leads were perfect, and they were backed with a very strong support headed by eita (who is getting better and better as an actor himself). I havent read the manga, but even so its obvious that this drama pays it respects to the manga very closely as the characters are portrayed as almost comic or cartoon-like. Very watchable and memorable! |

Possibly the cutest drama i've ever seen. I first saw ueno juri in Engine and I thought she was really good. Here she just amazes me...the way she talks, the way she acts around chiaki, gosh i can't think of anyone perfect for the role. Tamaki Hiroshi is great too and i love how he can pull of being kakkoi and completely silly at the same time. (not to mention he is HOT). The pace of the drama was very good...it was funny without being slapstick and dramatic as well without being cheesy. In normal situation, I would be appalled by how Chiaki physically abuses Nodame (come on those punches?!?!), but the scenes were choreographed so comically that I had to laugh all the times. I can go on and on, but in short, LOVE IT! |

Juri Ueno IS brilliant, and although I found the Stresemann character irritating at first, in the end I didn't mind him at all. Takenaka Naoto has an impressive voice at least. Tamaki Hiroshi was great as the uptight Chiaki-senpai, and the rest of cast are uniformly excellent.

Definitely entertaining. However, to look at it critically, the editing's not superb, especially not for the performances considering that most of the conducting's off beat. Acting's not that great either, though granted it's pretty difficult to flaunt one's acting skills in here. Enjoyable nonetheless, and relatively addictive. Many have done a wonderful job pretending to play the instruments and, of course, fantastic soundtrack. |

Of all the dramas I've seen, Nodame Cantabile holds a special place in my heart. With its unique charm, I was hooked with the first episode. Everything about it was comical but also well-balanced with a healthy dose of gravity, which doesn't define the series as wholly comedic. The special effects were a pleasure to watch. As an adaptation from the manga, I was pleased to see that there was an animated quality of the series without looking too fake.
Although I do question the authenticity of conducting, the acting was well-executed. I adored Ueno Juri's Nodame and Tamaki Hiroshi's Chiaki. The entire cast got along well, and it was apparent near the end. All the actors looked as if they would cry together on set. This series will remain as my top recommendation to those who are just getting into Japanese dramas. Gyabo! |

This is a really really realllllly nice drama. I watched it over and over and can still laugh at it. Ueno Juri really acted well as Nodame. Her silly actions and comical acts are all done well. And I've sorta grown to Stresemann accent in the series. The introductions of classical music is another nice point of this drama. It got me pretty interested in classical music. |

I thought this drama would be boring for me cause it's about music, but when I gave it a shot and started watching it, I found it was real funny and I liked it... I liked this one for 3 reasons. First, the totally-crazy-Manga-like scenes, especially in the beginning. Then, the music all along the Dorama, particularly the big concerts. And finally, because it was what I qualify as a "good" dorama, which has a balance of everything: laughter, emotion, surprises, interesting characters, action, etc. I almost dropped off at the second episode, I was getting tired of the jokes - maybe there were too many of those - but then I am glad that I kept going because the jokes stop a little bit and as the story becomes more serious it becomes more interesting. So, stick to it at least until episode 4 or 5 is my advice. |

Great characters! Over the top humor... it's like a real live action anime. Tamaki Hiroshi who plays Chiaki does a great job. Ueno Juri who plays Nodame is cute, funny and crazy weird!

I'm starting to like most of the dramas that are adaption from manga or animes...

Haven't watched such an entertaining dorama like this one for so long. Ueno Juri gave an excellent performance as well asTamaki i'm-not-sure-what's-his-1st-name-is. It's great to see Ueno-san potray an anime character that is also realistic at the same time. She really did surpass my expectations because I have really only seen her in more sombre roles before (Orange Days, Kindaichi 2005 & Swing Girls). And Tamaki-san showed that he can inject humour and emotion into his usual cool-kakkoii facade. Oh, I must not forget to mention the rest of the cast gave a kampeki performance too, especially Eita, and the Myoja timpani player.
Highly recommended to everyone who enjoys a good laugh. Not for those looking for serious love relationship dramas. |

Before I watched this dorama, I like music classic enough, but after I watched this dorama I coldn't stop to watched it again and again and I bought a lot of classical music and of course until now I always hear classical music.I feel my home is full of bright sounds of violin, piano, oboe, flute, timpani, cello, contabass, etc.
Love...love Nodame...

A really awesome drama!! Kinda ashamed to admit it, but I was hesitant on watching it because Tamaki Hiroshi was a bit old in my opinion (even though he isnt!!!! Im just an insane psycho freak sometimes) but his character turned out to be one of my favorites. Ueno Juri was great too but Eita really stole the show in my opinion. He's such a cool guy and his hair was awesome!! All the characters contributed so much to the show and they all shined even though there were a ton of people in the cast.
And of course, the soundtrack was absolutely amazing; why wouldn't it be when the show features such well-known classicals? I enjoyed the orchestra performances immensely and I like how the actors were playing the instruments themselves (or were they? Lol they looked like they were so ya xD). Now I really wish I hadnt given up on piano!
Anyways Nodame Cantabile is an awesome drama that I won't be forgetting anytime soon...it has now joined Nobuta wo Produce, 1 Litre of Tears and Hana Kimi in my list of all-time fave dramas! |

Starting from episode 7, the personality of Nodame pissed me off. The end was somehow not satisfying. Overall a good dorama.... Splendid casting... a nice plot and scenes that made me laugh my head out!!! But yes.. i must agree with those who say that Nodame Cantabile is a lil bit overrated..
I mean... its a good dorama (at least imo) but there r many other better than this.
IMO the major problem in Nodame is the ridiculous number of characters in the story (and its not like they appear just one episode and disappear.. they continue appearing on the dorama as the show goes on...) I found a lil hard to pay attention for the main couple, the two teachers, the maestro, the S-oke's members, the R-S member's, Chiakis's ex-girlfriend, the school director, Nodame's friends, the gay violinist, Mine's father, the reporter and his assistent... Damn... do they really need that many characters??? |
