I really enjoyed this series.
I'm not very fond of love stories, but this one was very refreshing.
(a little spoilers)
I think it's because the story describes a friend/companion-like relationship between couples, instead of a very romantic one.
In most love stories in which there are 2 male leads, the female lead almost always ends up with the guy that she has romantic feelings for, while the other will be rejected with words like "I've always only thought of you as my best friend, and there's nothing more than that."
But that isn't truly the case in many real life situations... a lot of times, friendship-like relationships work out a lot better than relationships that are based on infatuation. And this is where Hotaru no Hikari distinguishes itself from other love stories -- it does a good job in describing the gradual sprouting of a love seed...
I started off rooting for Makoto, but as the series progressed, I also found myself taking a liking towards Buchou :P |

A fun and light-hearted drama. I kept watching because Hotaru was so contradictory to herself. I wish I could be that relaxed and hard-working at the same time. In the end, I was sad that Hotaru adn Makoto couldn't make it work. I was a bit let down by the ending in general. There was no resolution to any relationship. Sometimes I'm satisfied with that in other dramas, but not in this case. Overall good, interesting, and fun to watch! |

This is the first time I've seen Ayase in such a light-hearted and cute role and she does really well. Cute and refreshing story with nice supporting characters. I can't decide if it is the character Makoto or the actor (maybe both) but you can't feel any support or hope for their budding romance, especially not when Hotaru and Takano buchou have such great chemistry. The scenes at the house were especially just awesome and hilarious. |

This is a "feel good" Drama for me. I like this one, because it feels like a fresh breeze to watch. Ayase Haruka and Fujiki Naohito are performing some top-of-the-notch acting here. Very straight, linear story, but I like the Idea of this lifestyle, and the personalities of the main characters. Good chemistry between them. Maybe I should vote one point better for the Ayase-in-HD-experience XD |

Overall a light-hearted slice-of-life romantic comedy with a very interesting female lead who has some traits that remind me somewhat of myself and other friends around me. Its this interesting bit of her that actually carries the show, together with the chemistry between the foul-mouthed boss of hers.
Even though this whole drama seems to only talk about her life and how she copes with her romance, be aware though that it is nowhere near boring. In fact this series actually manages to balance many aspects together to make it one of the most worth watching this year |

This was my favourite of the season. Ayase Haruka is adorable as Hotaru, and her bantering with Buchou was very entertaining. This was a very enjoyable series, although I still can't comprehend what is sooo unacceptable about females wearing t-shirts and tracksuits at home. I don't really believe the Japs are that superficial in real life. |

A light romantic comedy. One of those series that you had fun from watching. Not too much conflict but I must say that Ayase and Nao’s character interaction at first was a little weak but it gets better after each episodes. Definitely a good performance from Ayase. Too bad her love interest here was as stiff as a rock, a different actor could’ve brought justice in portraying Makoto. |

I read the Review from Wynter and this is basically what I felt, except I enjoyed it from the start.
I seldomly really laugh out loud while watching a dorama, but this one did it to me. The scenes between Hotaru (Ayase) and her Buchoo (Fujiki) at home were always so funny, and they kept coming with different types of jokes (not always the same thing that repeats itself).
I usually don't care much for Fujiki, who tends to always play the same type of role with his serious face (except Galcircle that was a bit too much), but in this dorama he managed to pull out a very credible character, which was far from easy considering what he had to face with the character of Hotaru, and really helped to build the comedy.
And yes, Kato Kazuki (Makoto) was a waste (he only has one face - I think he was playing with a mask on :-), but whatever, he was not the one you'd look at anyway.
It had been a while I had watched such a good comedy. I would compare it to Nobuta or Mukodono. |

I absolutely love this drama! It is definitely the best romantic comedy since Anego. The chemistry between Fujiki and Haruse was great even though, to me, they were more like family/siblings/close friends than a couple. I really wanted to see the two of them dating instead of having the show end where it did, but I also can't imagine the two of them kissing or doing other couple-y stuff...it's almost like incest >.< I think all of the cast was great in the show, except for the lack of acting by the guy who played Makoto. Good thing that he's at least ikemen =P The ending song by Aiko is also great. Just like how Kitade Nana's Kiss or Kiss fitted Anego perfectly and Every Little Thing's Swimy fitted Kekkon Dekinai Otoko perfectly, Aiko's Yokogao was great for Hotaru no Hikari. I'm really hoping that the producers will decide to make a good SP with some more plot progression....kyaaaaa! |

I really really enjoyed this drama. Even from the first episode,it was really interesting. I wasn't expecting ayase haruka to act that well but yes,she did. The way she expressed herself in the drama and the way she spoke really reminded me of Yankumi from Gokusen. Naohito,*melts* i liked him every since antique and i still really like him. I like his angry look......................because he doesn't frown! Haha! That's one thing i realised after watching so many dramas of him. He's really good at acting for sure. Oh,i like the makoto dude too. LOL! Another reason why this drama is enjoyable to me is because there isn't any really bad mean character.They're all nice <3. |

The best parts where the conversions and bickering between Ayase Haruka and Fujiki Naohito. A special mention to DoReMii whose fansubs where superb and really caught the spirit of the show. |

Neat at work, total slop home, Hotaru has given up on love and prefers to hang out at her perch drinking beer. Her boss going through an acid divorce and has no other place to stay as Hotaru’s place, which is incidentally owned by his parents. Obviously the two personalities clash and Hotaru happens to meet a guy she likes and with the help of her boss progresses in the relationship while all along the two have a thing for each other. This drama felt sometimes like a very loooong beer advert, targeted at women and somewhat like a re-hash of dramas such as Kimi wa petto, Last Christmas, Sapuri etc. On the plus side: the chemistry of the two main actors, their likeability, light entertainment and some funny scenes. |

This drama was so addictive until episode 4, which got me REALLY dissappointed because it was too ridiculous. But I didn't give up and continued, and I'm really glad I did not give up on it. I thought the ending was really sweet, but too hasty imo. Naohito Fujiki is too cute in here! <3 |
