This dorama is very wonderful. The story is kinda simple, but it's very funny. Sena's play is very great. The songs are soooo sweet. I don't know what should I say about this dorama again. All I can say is that it's very wonderful. The actors are very cool, especially Kimura Takuya!
You'd better watch it yourself, if you haven't. You won't regret it. |

I reckon this dorama as a touching and sweet one. I especially love the romantic song which Senna played for Minami. The song was so sweet that it will certainly melt your heart. Some characters were kinda weird, like Momoko, but the storyline was awesome and caused mixed emotion. It' a lovely dorama. |

The storyline is good and the actors all put in very convincing performances but what really stands out about this show is the music. The significance of each scene was portrayed very clearly through the music that was used. Without the great music, I believe this show would not have become the well-loved classic that it is !! |

This show is really entertaining and has a superb cast.My personal fave is Yutaka,with his bearded look he simply lights up the screen whenever he appears.The story,well,can be said to be one of its kind in its era,but I guess I will enjoy it more if other doramas don't use the same plot over and over again,which kinda makes this show look...well...plain if you don't watch it first.However,that's not neccesarily a bad thing as a quite similiar drama to Long Vacation,Overtime,has bettered it.Takuya's acting is still the same,totally no changes in whichever drama he acts in,Though he is still comfortable to look at,it can be kinda a drag at times.(heaved a huge sigh of relief when I saw him in HERO,finally some changes).The music is good,but I think it's over-hyped.In conclusion,I still think this drama does stand out from the rest and it's worth the $. |

Nice story eventhough at first it was boring.. but this drama make me wanted to play piano again (Infact I don't play for 5 years). I always dreaming to play like as greatest as I could (like final episode when Senna play in a concert) & I know I still can get better. Thank's Takuya for this great performances (act).

This is a classic. Regardless of what others had said, it has the best soundtrack in all Japanese dramas. And the setting is wonderful. Every character stands out in this drama and many people have watched it umpteen times. This is the only drama I feel which brings together the best of the actors in Japan. Yamaguchi, Takuya,Yutaka, Ryoko and all. And the wonderful theme song. The great mood created throughout the whole drama due to the fabulous acting as well as the music. Great chemistry between Takuya and Yamaguchi. Don't miss it if u call urself a japanese drama fan. |

One of my favorites. The ending was no surprises! Typical Kimura type character and Yamaguchi's character could drive people crazy!! Her character will stay with you for a while. The sound track is simply great and I have the 3 CD version in my collection. Good romantic plot, amazing cast and good music, just cannot beat this combination. they don't make dorama like this anymore!

I loved the music! So groory and catchy! "Here we go again" is my fave song in the series! Just can't get enough of the song, been listenin to it over and over! The first rap-song I've really liked!
Loved Inamori Izumi part's as Momoko, a funny/weird person who gives weird advices to Tomoko Yamaguchi (Minami) but useful and unique!

While picking up this drama I was humming "KimuTaku/Matsu", but that's not what this one's about. In fact, I really really really dislike Matsu's character. Great Story::
The story is all about life, love, and relationships. All of the lives were intertwined with each other which makes for interesting interactions between the characteres... the love match-ups kept me guessing until the very end.
Great Acting:
Yamaguchi (Minami) steals this show. Her acting was very believable, real and natural.
Kimura (Senna) fits the role of the loner pianist perfectly.
The hidden "gems" in this show were::
Inamori (Momoko) was hilarious!!! She has the best facial expressions!!
Hirosue Ryoko, although a small part, was such a stand out that I ended up watching another of her dramas (Summer Snow) and now I'm a fan :)

I wasn't quite keen on watching this series but am really glad I finished it. The storyline is pretty straightforward but the character development of Sena and Minami is flawless. The acting is superb all round too, especially Takuya Kimura and Tomoko Yamaguchi. I thought they were perfectly casted for their roles. This is one of the best dramas I've watched (Beautiful Life is still no.1, IMO). There isn't much action (unlike Seikei Bijin where there's always something interesting going on). This series mainly revolves around the relationship of the 6 main characters. Can get quite draggy at times (which is why I didn't give a 10) but overall, still a good watch.

Long Vacation remains to this day my favorite Jdorama of all time. The story, the cast, the OST, the pop culture influence it created - it is simply a classic. The story is simply but very moving and certain scenes left a deep impression on me, especially the conversations between Sena and Minami. Long Vacation is an apt title to describe where the main characters are at - it's about the period of time when people come at a crossroad and they're lost about what to do with themselves. The chemistry between Takuya Kimura and Tomoko Yamaguchi is simply spectacular and untoppable. Tomoko makes her character very fascinating with her bursts of energetic intensity and moments of vulnerability. Takuya shows his true depth as an actor here with his touching portrayal of Sena. Two thumbs WAY UP! |

watched this drama quite some time ago, but it really is one of the best dramas around (too bad it's outdated for this age). it has a nice storyline, great cast (ahem, kimura made his name thru this one), great soundtrack.
all in all, it's a great story about an aspiring pianist tolerating a free-loader woman who's a few years older than him. the relationship is tolerable despite their age differences coz they really do look good together :) |

One of the few doramas I'd call a masterpiece. Tomoko's acting was definitely outstanding and the rest of the all-star cast played their roles quite convincingly. The music in this jdorama is very well selected and well used throughout all the episodes. While the story was not uncommon, the cast brought the characters to life in a very classy manner. A great ending as well, bravo!! |

I know everyone loves this Drama and I feel the same way.
The story was very simple and beautifully portrayed by Tomoko and Takuya. Tomoko was and still remains one of the best actresses ever for Jdorama's. Every song in the drama was very well selected and created a great upbeat atmosphere for the show. What made the Drama for me was that it did not seem like they we acting at all, everything seemed to flow so naturally. And I have to give props to the rest of the cast too, they all did an amazing job portraying their characters. My only grip would be to Takako, She seemed a bit to innocent to me, I guess there are girls out there that dont have their first kiss until 23 or 24 but I find it hard to believe a character as beautiful would wait that long. Anybody that likes Jdorama's you have to see this one, it is not a choice, you must watch it. |

Another winner from Kitagawa Eriko who also wrote Orange Days. Kimura does a good job as the desillusioned pianist, but he doesn't quite hold it to co-star Yamagushi Tomoko. He's got trouble expressing emotions with his face and often uses mannerisms that become irritating. The ending doesn't do justice to the quality of this show. |

| 82. | A Brilliant Love Story [Rating: 10/10]
I don’t know how to start this review, so let me highlight some of my favourite moments:
The very last scene of Episode 8 when Sena watches Minami walk away after saying goodbye… gosh! This one scene alone establishes the love he feels for her, and how lonely life will be like without her. It’s no longer about their age difference, or their current situations. It’s about the lack, yet need, of and for each other. It’s the small things like this that make this drama a cut above the others.
For example, although you never hear Sena play the piano completely (until you get near the end of the drama), you are totally convinced that he loves it. Or the look he gets in Episode 9 when Minami plays a song for him on the piano, and his tears start to fall… you just don’t need the words to convince you. The answers are all in the eyes of the characters.
The script in this show was AMAZING! Very good writing. I mean, the conversation Minami and Sena have about their relationship a day or two after they make love seemed so real and unscripted. It was painful to watch because it seemed so raw. I was completely convinced that I was playing the voyeur in a very intimate scene − that’s how real it was.
There are parts, like in the middle of the series, when the pacing gets a bit too slow and an episode or two passes without anything really happening. But it’s not until the end when you realize just how important these empty episodes are, because although there is very little action, they represent the passing of time… time in which feelings start to blossom.
I’ve always been a fan to Kimura’s, but I’ve now become a hardcore of fan of Yamaguchi Tomoko as well. So much so, that I’ve started downloading another drama just because she’s in it! I’ve also fallen in love with Yutaka. I’ve seen Inamori Izumi in Pretty Girls, and she plays a similar role in this drama, but she was the perfect “wise” comic relief. Her answering machine messages made me laugh until my stomach hurt.
All-in-all, this was an amazing drama and highly recommended. |

| 83. | Outstanding Performances [Rating: 10/10]
This is one of the greatest classic japanese series of all time, the music was catchy, the peformances were excellent and never kept you boring for long. Although it was an older series but still very good. Highly recommended to all viewers.
The part at the end was magnificent, it had a happy ending which is what I expected and waited for. Although Matsu and Kimutaku would have made a good couple, this series still turned out great. |

One of the best shows I've seen so far and I'm new to this drama thing. The story is very warm and engaging, and the love triangles the build keep everything interesting the whole way through the series. haha, barring the dated 90s style everybody has in the show because of how old it is, it's a must see! |

Long Vacation is a modern classic in Japanese drama. A tad slow at times, but it's a love story that really pays off for the attentive viewer. Wonderful acting, great script, great supporting cast, great music and everything comes together beautifully. |

It goes without saying that this particular one is perhaps the most hyped about Japanese drama there ever was, so it's rather difficult for me not to harbour very high expectations with unskeptical eyes.
Eriko Kitagawa's script seems to bring the characters alive, creating uncontrived dialogues that make it seem like the characters are real friends who are having real conversations. The infusion of pop-cultural references that were prevalent in the 90's is a great touch, and I love the opening theme.
Tomoko Yamaguchi did the best she could with her boisterous and annoying character and while I'm not really a fan of Takuya Kimura's, his insecure and timid character is rather endearing and perhaps many young guys now can still relate to his struggles and revelations.
I have to echo some reviewers here who stated that the drama is rather slow-paced and there are many times where I just went 'Why is the story going in circles?' or 'When is something exciting going to happen instead of just listening to their endless ramblings?'. There are also many random stuff happening in the drama that don't flow too well. The ending is indeed satisfying and memorable, but only for the leads, as the drama leaves out many unresolved loose ends for the supporting characters.
The drama is fun to watch however, with memorable and comical characters that drive this drama. Worth-watching but this humble viewer thinks it's very overrated. |

Very touching drama. The relationship between Sena and Minami was beautifully developed and there were so many scenes where the viewer could just feel the bond between the two. The ending of every episode was so well directed that one could not stop watching the next! Great direction, great acting by Yamaguchi-san and great music too!
I just wish the ending were more exciting as the rest of the drama was. (-1 for that) |

one of my favourite parts of the dorama was the opening song by toshi. :D i didn't really think much of kimura takuya at first, but now he's got to be one of my favourite actors :) yamaguchi tomoko was also really funny! i loved the whole storyline, except that at one time minami seemed to like sena, then after meeting tetsuya she did not seem to like sena in that way anymore. sorta weird.
i didn't expect this drama to be that good, but turns out that i didn't get bored with any episode; i watched every single minute of it, something not many dramas can make me do. :D |

Long vacation is a great drama. The fact that i'm watching it now, 12 years after it was released and still enjoying thoroughly says so much about how this drama is indeed a timeless one. I've watched many dramas centering around romance but i must say none of it is as well done as this drama. Everything about this drama is wonderfully done, from the casting to the acting and the music. The plot is great and the pace is just right. It is not to slow moving yet tells enough of the story. And of course, Kimura Takuya as sena was wonderful.

| 95. | Hardly any classical music [Rating: 6/10]
I was a little disappointed in this drama because I thought it would have classical music in it. I find it very odd that they made the main character a pianist, but all the time he just played music that was probably written for the drama. If they wanted to play pop music, they should have made him a guitarist or something.
Story is OK, but there seemed to be lots of threads and setups that were never followed through.
Pretty much just a chick flick romance.
Nodame is 100 times better. |

This was a great drama with great actors. The first episode really pulls you in and makes you want to keep watching. The characters were well developed and the story-line was plausible, cute, and fun. There was a good mix of seriousness and fun, and it wasn't too heavy. I would definately reccomend this drama. It's also fun to see the 90's style clothes! |
