NKH 297 Episodes x 15 mins. each. Wonderful acting. Very natural. Nazukashi (nostalgic) feelings. A look at the hardships of being poor. Lil Oshin wa totemo kawaii~with the cutest rosey red cheeks. It's fun watching her. When spoken to, she always listens attentively with interest~eye contact. Enter 16 year old Oshin. Very well mannered in moral&etiquette. Kaiyou hasn't changed! :p Oshin hits Tokyo! New work, changes in her personal life. And episodes filled with smiles&laughter! Oshin is even quite silly at times! :p Late teens/early 20s continues with struggles of work and family life. There's a long run of episodes that'll anger and exhaust many. It did me and although I'm not sure keeping the viewer in such an angry state for so long is good viewing, it was addicting. As we near the 200 mark, we'll be reminded of lil Oshin again! ;) And again, tears of joy!
The series is a tearfest! Most will flow during the early episodes so have your tissues! The series will touch all emotions, from sadness to laughter to anger. Nakamura Masatoshi (early episodes) delivers some really powerful lines that'll move you!

This was the very first drama which I have seen. It's still so vividly clear to me. Oshin charater is a very strong will person who is determined when she set out her goal. This will be one of the classic in my list.

My very first Japanese drama. I don't think I saw all of it but saw the early episodes when Oshin was still young. I remember loving her dearly and feeling sorry for her at the same time. Wow, that was back in 1994!

I watched only about 30 or so episodes of this in India when I was a kid. I really liked it and I want to find out if there is an affordable way to get all 297 episodes of this classic on vcd or dvd.

Tale of a woman's life from 8 to 80 years (to be exact, 6 to 84). The Chinese version of this drama was titled "Ah(1) Xin(4)".

The "Citizen Kane" of asadoras. Too bad the characters are fictional, this would make a great Taiga.
