1. Cop dramas rock! [Rating: 9/10]
With the exceeding number of romantic dramas being produced, I always forget that I actually enjoy cop dramas. I donft know what it is about them. And yes, itfs MORE than just the uniforms. ;) I like the mystery and suspense involved. I like how they show the power of the mind and heart to solve the cases.

Watching Odoru Daisousasen reminded me once more that Ifve been missing this genre. The storylines in this series are solid. Each one is carefully planned and written and so each mystery was interesting to watch. I was fascinated with each case and was rarely disappointed in the handling of it. The cases were varied enough to keep onefs attention, which is hard to do successfully.

What made this show was the cast, of course. Oda did a great job portraying the reckless rookie detective. Yanagiba was perfect as the stressed out elite (Ifm surprised the vein in his forehead didnft burst). Fukatsu was hilarious as the sole female detective in the branch. Her character was like a breath of fresh air and I hope more female characters like her arise in other dramas. Ikariya, one of my favs, was fabulous as the old, soon-to-retire detective. He was hilarious AND powerful and I really enjoyed his performance. Mizuno was grand, as always, and Ifm glad her role didnft fade away into a random story. I liked the fact that she stuck around.

This show had the perfect balance of comedy and drama. When the scene called for seriousness, they delivered effectively. When the stress of the situation needed to be lifted, they successfully incorporated memorable comedic moments. The actors and crew were flawless in providing such seamless transitions. It was satisfying to watch in its realistic, natural quality. This drama stands strong in proving that dramas like this one are no longer being written. Such a shame.

I look forward to the movies!

2. Enjoyable watch [Rating: 7/10]
Because I have seen Hero before watching Odoru Daisousasen, there was no way I could not compare the 2. The general plot and structure of the 2 doramas are quite similar: for both series, each episode is structured around a case that the main character is involved in. The detective is a bit of a maverick with different methods and beliefs. And there is a small romance with a female co-worker.

I think that Odoru Daisousasen did a pretty good job. Oda Yuji was very good and charismatic, and all supporting lead did great, including the comedy parts. I was looking for a little bit more romance, though, that would have spiced up things and added some depth to the characters. The relationship between Oda Yuji, Fukatsu Eri, Yusuke Santamaria and Mizuno Miki was easy to create a bit more of chemistry and emotion between the caharacters. This is why I gave it a lower rating than Hero.

It remains a very good family dorama with good acting and an interesting storyline.

3. Timeless... [Rating: 9/10]
I watched this drama more than 10 years after the original release date and I can't help but think that people will still be praising this drama 20 years from now. What a great blend of comedy and drama this show has, clever humor one minute and then intense action the next! This has also got to be both Oda Yuji and Fukatsu Eri's best performance ever, they really brought the drama to life.

This drama has something for literally everyone in it and it hasn't aged one bit (well maybe the dial-up internet needs to go...). This is not only one of the best police dramas I've watched, it's one of the best dramas I've seen period. Although Odoru Daisousassen doesn't rank in my top 10 dramas I decided to give it a vote as this show managed to be smarter and more relevant than dramas that are coming out 10 years later.

4. One fine dorama.. [Rating: 9/10]
Among the finest police doramas i've seen. Oda Yuji is in top form in this dorama and comparable to his performances in Last Christmas and Midnight Rain. The cast has great chemistry together bringing out some great performances by yuji, eri fukatsu, mizuno miki and yusuke santamaria. script was very well written particularly given the difficulty of writing a great police dorama. i fully recommend this to all jdorama fans to give this series a spin.

5. AKA Odoru Daisousomething [Rating: 8/10]
A well-paced action/drama peppered with hilarious moments. It cruises nicely past the half way mark, then spoils its charm by using the cheapest substitute for new ideas: guns and blood. Hats off to composer Matsumoto Akihiko for one of the most creative scores, and to Yanagiba Toshiro for occasionally unclenching his teeth.

6. Top 3 [Rating: 10/10]
The acting is great, the plots are interesting and sometimes unexpected, and the characters are complex so that you care about them. Also, each episode is a self-contained case but the episodes have common threads that tie one to another. This is now in my Top 3 list, along with Long Vacation and Virgin Road.

7. Very Entertaining Police Drama [Rating: 10/10]
This is the first time I have seen Oda Yuji in a drama, but I think he potrayed the character really well. He can be serious and yet comical and does it very well. You will be glued to the TV screen once you watched the first episode and probably will not stop until the last episode! =D

To tell the truth, I has very high hopes for this series, it's quite a shame that I couldn't get past the 3rd episode... I like the whole plot direction and the acting is pretty solid overall and kudos to the composer for scoring such a wonderful soundtrack. However, there are some details that made me (and probably might make you) drop the whole thing: it's especially present at comedy (somewhat failed) sequences. It so unrealistic that it made me seek forward past them!
It's gotta be me, so I would recommend you to try and watch a couple of episodes an grab a feel about it. Cause apart from that, this series has all the potential to be a "Classic Drama"
3. Comments by phlargo [Rating: 9/10]
It felt a little rough starting out. The music and the characters are infectious. Sure, it was really really cheesy at points, but in the end I really enjoyed the series and gladly recommend it to others. The action theme music totally sucked me in - you knew when things were going to happen and you got excited about it (well, kinda at least). It was fun!

The older retiring detective, Waku, was one of my favs. I also really like Murai (the headquarters supervisor who was always frowning).

It was rewarding to watch, even if it probably felt dated 10+ years ago when it came out ;-)

I love this one, it's a real classic. Even though I watched this 8 years after it was shown, I don't get the furui feeling that one gets from watching some of the older shows. Except maybe the fashion sense XD I find the balance of comedy and drama really really perfect in these series, and the cast have great chemistry too. All the characters from the station have such distinct and amusing personalities and the dialogue is good too. I personally love watching Yanagiba Toshiro frown, it happens every episode and usually because of Oda Yuji XD

I'm speechless. This jdorama a.k.a Bayside Shakedown is an effin golden oldie. It was ueber funny and exciting . It's a fun watch. Now I know why its a cult classic that spawned 5 specials and 4 movies. It's got subtle lessons on ethics and the politics of the system as well as a parody of the Japanese police structure. The cast was impeccable-Oda Yuji,Yanagiba Toshiro, Fukatsu Eri!! I love kick azz in your face police stories with a sense of humor!!! I absolutely love this jdorama and I want to watch all the specials and movies too.
6. Comments by Shouryuuken [Rating: 10/10]
Considering I'm trying to rate relative to other dramas I have seen, Odoru really is the creme de la creme of Japanese drama and that is made obvious by the fact that any Japanese person you ask will have heard the Odoru theme tune.
Excellent acting, story-line, continuity, music with a dash of comedy and unlike other dramas, watching it a second time is not boring. If you have never seen a Japanese drama before and you want to see the best that is on offer, then this is the drama of choice.
7. Comments by EstherM [Rating: 8/10]
Fellow drama friends have said it already many times: itfs a funny classic that aged (will age) really well. Itfs a must watch for all those who love police and mystery dramas. Entertaining but was a bit pathetic around episodes 6 an 7 and Oda Yuji is not really my cup of tea. I find his mouth creepy, probably because he insists on singing and he really shouldnLt, his singing makes me actually appreciate JE ending songs.
8. Comments by kaonashi [Rating: 9/10]
If there's one drama that justifies a sequel, it's this one. Even after the final episode it felt like the beginning of the story. I wanted to get to know the characters more. This drama doesn't offer any complicated murder cases, just the "everyday life" of police officers & how politics affect the detectives work. A very well scripted drama with lot's of humor & emotional moments. One not to be missed. 9+
9. Comments by yourasthma [Rating: 10/10]
this show obviously deserves a place in the top 50. intelligent humour from the dialogue and comical situations. best ensemble cast for me despite the stock characters... memorable theme song as well. my only complaint would be that it ended too soon but then again, there were so many specials, movies and spin-off movies. i haven't watched the entire franchise, but this drama gets my vote and two thumbs up.

A great show! Quintessential example of what's good with "older" doramas. Sincere acting, great casting and a novelty difficult to find in later programming. Oja Yuji and Eri Fukatsu are GREAT...Eri Fukatsu looks absolutely fabulous in her "younger days." A grand actress...the supporting character were also interesting and helped add to the delightfulness of this show.

Impressive, entertaining police Dorama. Has strong characters which makes you imitate one or another of them. Creates a good atmosphere while focusing on the work as a investigator rather then on side-plots like a romance. Oda Yuji fits perfectly, paired with a good Fukatsu eri and a very cool central police bureau officer Yanagi.
12. Comments by Lee-chan [Rating: 9/10]
Part sitcom, part crime drama, but all fun! Ohda, Fukatsu, Yanagiba, and Ikariya were all so fun to watch. I've seen many Japanese dramas call into the trap of being... too dramatic for their own good, but R&P handles itself well. You'll laugh, maybe cry, and fall off the edge of your seat and find yourself wanting more!
13. Comments by tetsukei [Rating: 8/10]
Wonderful, but unappreciated show, due to its less popular cast. But the cast gained popularity from this drama! A police story, no hero show. You will see the human-side of the glamourous job, and how much redtape still exists in the civil service. Great buy, must buy!
Humour 8/10 Actors 9/10 Story 8/10 Thrill 8/10 Music 7/10

The strongest police dorama i've seen and certainly in leagues with Keizoku and Midnight Rain. Oda Yuji does a fabulous job in this dorama as Aoshima and i definitely look forward to seeing the specials. cast and script are also first-class. This dorama definitely counts among my favourites
15. Comments by Cerebus [Rating: 7/10]
A refreshing change from the average cop show. Often the cases where solved by a simple confession or even by accident, it's almost the anti-CSI. Healthy degree of cynicism of the vertical structure of the Japanese police system. The attempts at comedy didn't really work.
16. Comments by Sleepingstar [Rating: 7/10]
Not your normal Detective comedy. It isn't amazingly funny either (IMO), but setting itself is intelligent and fun which makes it pretty good. I would have probably liked it more if there were more story to be found here, because as it was, it just wasn't enough.

Terrific police drama that doesn't rely on the complexity of plot but still very engaging. Great cast with interesting characters that I wish I could learn more about, and absolutely hilarious at times. :D
Oda Yuji is the best of all leading men I have seen.

A timeless detective drama with a lot of substance. Full of wonderful characters, subtle but hilarious humor, and interesting storylines, it will have you intrigued until the very end. If you can't get enough of it, there are a few movies too!

This is no doubt the BEST police drama I've ever seen. Very episodic plot, but it's still very enjoyable. I loved the cast and it had its funny moments. Very light police/crime dramas, which you don't come by all the time. I highly recommend it!

Different pace of drama than I'm accostumed to. However, very interesting. Liked Eri Fukatsu and Oda Yuji. Yanagiba Toshiro is so cool though. He even earns my respect! Mizuno Miki was a definite plus in this drama!

Good police show. Oda Yuji was good here. So was Eri Fukatsu. Recommended. It might be a little too short. Maybe not enough spark between Oda's and Eri's character. That could've spicen things up a little.

Yuji Oda is simply hilarious... He is not exactly a hottie... But in this show he has the x-factor which I find it simply irresistable... Great cast & fabulous acting skills by Yuji & Toshiro...

This is great. The song is catchy and the whole theme about red tape and police hierarchy is a fresh perspective into detective dramas. The characters are all very well loved and fun to watch.
26. Comments by yume [Rating: 7/10]
It's a good fantasy action. I use the word fantasy because most of these things have 0% potential of actually happening in Japan (the excessive gun usage, for example, ahem ahem).

I was so so no into it cause i'm not really into police dorama. I was really really into it by the middle of the first episode though great graet. But terrible ending i think...

Funny and enjoyable drama, helped especially by Oda Yuji in probably the most charismatic role I've seen him in. Also appearances from a young Mizuno Miki and Fukatsu Eri.
