Synopsis
Left alone on a trip to Hong Kong, Tomoko finds herself the victim of a purse-snatching. The police arrest the man she points out, but it turns out to be the wrong person: a young Korean man named Ji Hoon. Despite his anger and humiliation, he takes her out to dinner since she has lost all her money, and in return she agrees to model for his amateur film. What follows is a magical and romantic two days. Upon returning to their respective countries, Tomoko must return to her nine to five job and Ji Hoon must resume studying to join the family business rather than pursuing his dream of becoming a film director. But soon the two begin to email each other and rekindle their relationship despite the distance and obstacles between them. Marking the very first time in television history that a drama has been co-produced between Japan and South Korea, the story shows us that love has no borders.

1. Good attempt, but not a complete success... [Rating: 7/10]
I liked the premise of this drama, but I really think they should have made it longer. Parts of it were too chopped up and there were parts that definitely needed fleshing out. For example, the two leads learned Korean/Japanese way too quickly. This needed to be fleshed out a bit more. Chi Ten spent two years in the army, but it only felt like a few months. When Chi Ten learned that Tomoko was working in Seoul, his feelings needed to be exploredc instead of him running off to see her once again. I mean, the two hadnft seen each other in two years, but their reunion seemed so commonplacec as if it had only been a week since they had last walked/talked with each other. Their transition from lovers, to friends, to lovers again was too fast. Itfs hard to tell just how long theyfre actually apart before they meet again, and I think this distance is important to emphasize in order to make the constant departures work. They werenft emphasized at all.

Although Fukada is a very pretty girl, I have never been a fan of her acting. My opinion didnft change after watching this drama. She expressions for different emotions were all the same so it was hard to tell just what her character was feeling. It was really hard to watch her gpretendh shefs struggling with the Korean language. The male lead wasnft any better. This was my first experience with Won Bin and I was immediately attracted to his good looks. However, the more I watched, the more I realized that he, too, isnft a very good actor. Mind you, I havenft seen any of his other works, but I was not at all impressed with his acting in this drama.

In all, this drama wasnft completely terrible and I really did like the concept. I think making it a full 10-12 episode series really would have helped the development of the plot.

2. Kyoko needs to learn to act than speak Korean! [Rating: 5/10]
Fukada Kyoko can't act! There is not much happening in this drama. No wonder there are only 4 episodes. I'm sure some girly girls may think it is a sweet and cute drama but it REALLY is cheesy. It's like a half an hour TV show where the problem is solved right away. It would be better if they both at least knew how to speak English! I think that's how it should be if it's going to be a Korean/Japanese relationship drama; that'd be more believable and viewable. In reality, those two would not work out, especially if it were to be a long term relationship. They were just attracted to each other's looks! There's no way it has to be personality, they can't even understand each other and were apart many times. And please, don't give me this love-at-first-sight-fate-destiny crap. Okay, I'll be nice and say it's not terrible (as I did watch it until the end, I only comment on dramas until I watch the whole series.) but it's DEFINITELY not great either. I think people that gave high ratings are biased, and are just rating on the cast itself, because it has this Won Bin or whatever, they give it a high rating. But I on the other hand, rate it as it is. If you haven't seen it then you're really not missing out much.

3. First two Episodes are really great [Rating: 9/10]
Hoi, the material from which they started from is awesome stuff. Episodes one and two are outstanding and if they would have held up the standard so far this (second time I think) short cooperation between Korea and Japan would have gotten a rating of 10 from me.
Especially the actrice Fukada, Kyoko is very convincing (and I am not saying that because I am a male) in her blushing and slowly closing her eyes at the right moments to catch her "prey" (actor Won Bin).

Fazit:
I must say this is the right Series to start your "J-Drama-Career" because it totals only four but very good episodes and not like all the others with 10- 11. Furthermore I support the drawing closer of those two countries which had their share of conflicts prior the World Championship in Soccer.

4. As Good As It Can Get... I Guess. [Rating: 7/10]
If you're wondering what Korean dramas are like, Friends is essentially a Korean drama condensed down into 4 episodes (on average they last for 16-24). This series followed the same back and forth and back and forth romance seen in just about every kdrama I have watched, which is not something I always enjoy. In this case, it was an alright love story which thankfully only last 4 episodes (I would have stopped if it had been longer), but I did not particularly enjoy either Fukada Kyoko or Won Bin. They competed on screen for the "most annoying cute and innocent" award and that got on my nerves. Props to Fukada for some passable Korean, but she needed to learn how to act first. I don't know if she's gotten any better since this (7 years is a long time)... One can only hope.

5. Fairly interesting Japanese-Korean collaboration [Rating: 9/10]
Aside from a bumpy start with rather weak acting by Kyoko, the main idea of this short series was definitely unique. Won Bin was well cast and the supporting cast did an OK job though there were definitely places for improvement. Kyoko redeemed herself somewhat towards the second half and should be commended for her effort in speaking Korean. Overall, it might have been better to extend the dorama and build more tension with the father instead of ending with a typically fairy-tale and probably unrealistic ending.

6. Well...kinda cute. [Rating: 6/10]
A love story between a korean guy and a japanese girl. Anyone who's familiar with the relations between the two countries over the years knows that love isn't easy. That makes this story a bit exiting and interesting to watch. But it's really not that good. Too many silly scenes and I really don't think Fukada Kyoko is a good actress. But she's still the perfect choice for the role as Tomoko.
Friends is a cute story and just 4 episodes so it doesn't get boring. Worth watching.

This is a short drama series with Japanese and Korean Stars involved. I like the 4 episodes story line and the fast pace of the story. Therefore, there were no unecessary scenes! The direction was great, very close to Japanese dorama. Without surprise, Kyoko is in her typical sweet girl role. I like how they showed the differences between the two cultures, especially in kid's marriage and career. Note: I like the sound track too.

8. A must see. [Rating: 9/10]
Great drama. If you like Won Bin or Fukada Kyoko this is a must see. The characters have solid development and it's a heartwarming story about love that knows no boundaries. The dialog can be a bit clanky at times but it's understandable considering the language barrier between the two main actors. Still, Kyoko and Won Bin did a great job together and had good chemistry. The theme song is beautiful to.

justo termine de ver esta serie, me resulto genial.
4 episodios muy intensos, muy romanticos y muy educativos.
no sabia que podia haber tantas diferencias entre ambos paises, el esfuerzo de tomoko por aprender koreano me parecio increible!

10. Cute, but not too good [Rating: 8/10]
I actually watched this series because of Fukada Kyoko. I think she did a good acting at Kamisama, mou sukoshi dake and I was curious about her new work. I found out she's not so good at all, she's cute, she's sweet and can act sometimes, but she's too cheesy.
The story is too predictable, there's nothing original in this show, which makes it boring sometimes.
But... it's a good show. Watchable.

For a former non-Fukada Kyoko fan, I have to say that Kyoko's performance wasn't AS bad as usual. In other words, the sugary sweet tone only pops up occasionally when they do close-ups of her face and she looks like she's staring into a goldfish bowl. The Korean and Japanese mix of style is well done. However, I cannot give it more than a 7 because there is very little chemistry between Kyoko's "Tomoko" and Wonbin's "Jihyun." At best, they seemed like friends. Perhaps that is because both truly don't speak the other's language or understand it, and as a result, never got comfortable with each other. Still, the story is an encouraging one and showed a definite truth about many Japanese youths' lack of sense of identity in respect to the world around them, and Asia. So I really recommend it for those reasons. "Tomoko" was a shining example and my first watch of Wonbin was heartwarming, he seems like a fine actor.
3. Comments by Jeanxi [Rating: 2/10]
Ehh...Fukada Kyoko is really cute...but she also has very bad acting skills. I really cannot stand another minute of her widening her eyes and giving this "I'm so innocent, what are you talking about?" look. Also, she is probably the first Japanese actress I've seen with such heavy eye makeup on in a drama. Won Bin deserves better!! The storyline is also pretty typical; the supposedly "sad" or "touching" parts are almost comical because they are sooooo overdone and cheesy (e.g. hugging in the rain, all that Christmas light at the end). Plus, their conversations were sometimes a bit stupid 'cause one person would talk in Korean and the other would talk in Japanese. And then occassionally Fukada Kyoko would repeat what she said in Japanese in her horrible-sounding Korean. Uck! So bad and so boring, I was falling asleep half way through the drama, so glad this is short =P

history created as first drama collaboration between japan and korea.

short four-episode serial.
interesting for information on the differences between the two countries.

good acting from won bin and supporting cast.
fukada kyoko makes a giant effort to learn and speak korean in this one. she is to be praised for her efforts.

the koreans had a bigger part in this drama, probably because the reality is that koreans are not allowed travel to japan easily.

average storyline, love story. not much of a stretch for the cast. outstanding mainly for the collaborative effort.

won bin as ever a pleasure to watch.

Is Won Bin Korea's Takuya Kimura?....could be. He and the actress Kyoko Fukada had great on screen chemistry and Won Bin is really a gorgeous Korean and an intense actor. I loved the story, 2 hearts one love conquers all. Sigh! I love this world. Anything is possible in the name of love. Lee Dong Gun......mmmmmm let me think, he is cute but not my type. He can act though. As far as Korean actors are concerned Jo In Sung is the handsomest man in the universe. Gong Yoo is the sexiest Korean actor and Park Shin-yang has the most beautiful smile in the world. Ooophs I almost forgot this is a Jdorama website.

It was cool to see some of the South Korean culture(i donLt watch kdramas), Fukada Kyoko was really good in this, i love the way she talks korean, really cute.
The korean guy(Won Bin) was ok i guess, but koreans all sound bad on screen(at least in the movies i watch).
Anyway itLs an ok story about forbiden love between two people from diferent countries and with diferent cultures.

It appeals to me in a special manner because I am also interested and trying to make a career in the same field as the male lead but also, not so sure all together.
It has a great soundtrack and it is a very beautiful enjoyable experience. It gets a 9 but there PROBABLY needed to be more episodes for the series, but not necessarily either.

I have to say that both main artists have delivered their performances well and have ecpressed so much feeling to their characters. It is a light drama and though it is short it did bring out its purpose. I think that there really is no barrier when it comes to true love. I anticipate another collaboration of Asian countries for the sake of storytelling! Congratulations for a job well done!!!

There's something very innocent about two people that can communicate so much emotion without actually speaking the same language. It's a very strong thing to see - two very well acted characters sewing the gap between them with full expression and clumsy gestures. Near the end, I couldn't believe that I felt such an affinity for the show after only 4 episodes. Excellent watch.

It would have been a great drama about an overseas love. But it doesn't seem a professional work, the performance of the cast is good but could be much better, and the story needs more chapters to explain it well, as it happens too quickly, sometimes it seems so childish. However, the idea and the collaboration of the two countries are quite interesting

I did not know it was only 4 episodes. Short but it told a lot about cross cultural relationships and even touched subjects of Koreans living in Japan, limited movement for Korean male citizens, economic differences, military service requirements, and cultural differences. Nice preformance by both actors and that girl is just too cute. Nice story.

An interesting drama that had linked two different culture together. It's also allow us to understand more about Korean and Japanese culture but it's also means a breakthrough in the traditional thinking and boundaries. Who said a long distance relationship wouldn't work but Friends shows us that Love really binds everythings.

My first drama. It's pretty generic, in terms of storyline and such, but you should watch it just to see the mix of Japanese and Korean. It is predictable and mushy romance but if you're a fan of that you'll love this! And it doesn't hurt that it's only 4 episodes long. If it was longer, then it would probably be worse.

Short, interesting drama about the relationship between a Korean man and a Japanese woman. Won Bin sure is a looker, isn't he? The story wasn't very realistic, but it was interesting. I liked how they didn't shy away from the way Koreans are treated in Japan, or the prejudice a mixed marriage receives in either culture.

I've never seen a series or a movie about two main leads, who are from different countries, where the acting turned out good and the communication went smooth and natural and realistic. It always feels awkward for me and looks kind of stupid, and so did the main leads in this series.. ;/

I love this fast paced drama. great acting by both parties especially kyoko for studying korean. I love the part when one of kyoko's superior talks to won bin at the roof top. i admire their sincerity in speaking in english for me its one of the very funny scenes but touching.

A superb movie with Korean and Japanese actors. It was very touching to be able watch the hardship that tomoko and ji hung had to go through. I really like the two main characters and the actors that portrayed them, Won Bin and Ryoko.
I really like this drama. Once i got started I couldn't stop. *thumb up*

I loved the chemistry and storyline between the lead actor, Won Bin and actress, Fukada Kyouko immensely. While this seems like a cliche love story across distance, it's not as simple as it seems.. it subtly takes on issues between Korea and Japan as well. A 4-disc mini dorama, it's very much worth a watch.

This was the first drama we watched that was both Japanese and Korean. Both main characters are very talented (and good looking, which always helps, hee hee), and the series addressed some very interesting cultural issues, even if it was a bit lopsided...

I hate Won Bin! He was trying hard to be charming and all, but there's just something about him that makes me almost puke everytime he's on screen. Kyoko on the other hand, shines throughout the entire show.

Quite good, and Kyoko Fukada really gets to flex her acting muscles here. I just wish there were a bit more chemistry between the 2 leads

Such a short drama yet enjoyable. The idea of Kyoko not even knowing korean was impressive since she still was able to play the part.
