Synopsis
Hideo Nakamura is a Biology teacher at Yorin Prep School. He's single. At first look he appears to be very serious and particular about details, but the fact of the matter is, all he has really tried to do is avoid fights with his students and other teachers.

Midori Akimoto is a Japanese teacher at Yorin Prep School. She is also the daughter of head of the school. While Midori appears to be both a good daughter and very naive, she actually has a lot of inner strength, and can be stubborn. Up to this time, Midori only looked at Hideo as a co-worker. But after she sees the changes in Hideo, she changes her own outlook on life.

Masaru Kubo is a Math teacher at Yorin Prep School. He is single. He's intelligent and very ambitious. In fact, he is seen to be the teacher with the most promising future at the school. The students trust him, and the head of the school considers him as Midori's future husband. His love for Midori is pure.

Shinsuke Furuta is the principal at Yorin Prep School. He is your typical middle-aged manager that is always kissing up to the head of the school. He is often made fun of by his students. He has a wife and three children.

Chikara Okuda is the youngest teacher at the school. He teaches Social Studies. He is single. Chikara is looked at as everyone's "little brother" at the school. He is always given odd work to do by the principal. He personally respects Masaru the most.

Sadao Akai is the Physical Education teacher at the school. He has a hearty personality, and always talks in a loud voice. He sticks out in the teacher's lounge as the "loudest" person in the room. Rumor has it that Sadao is living with his girlfriend.

Reiko Ota is the English teacher at Yorin Prep School. For one reason or the other, most eyes in the teacher's lounge are on her. Reiko has "been around the block a few times," but is still single. She seems to be an unrefined person, but she is actually really sensitive on the inside.

Benzo Kaneda is Hideo's doctor. He is well liked by his patients. After breaking the news to Hideo that he only has a year to live, he tries to be as warm to Hideo as he can.

Takayuki Akimoto is the head of Yorin Prep School. He is also Midori's father. He has high hopes for his school, and has a lot of friends in both the political and business world. But when it comes to Midori, he's just your typical father.

The main character of this story, Hideo Nakamura, is a Biology teacher at Yorin private prep school. For the past 28 years, he has never really asked for much out of life.

Suddenly one day, Hideo is hit with some hard news to swallow. The results of a physical exam that he took a while ago came back, and he has stomach cancer. It seems he's only got a year left to live. This news makes Hideo change his life from the ordinary one that he has lived for 28 years.

This story is the human drama about Hideo, and the decision to "really live his life to the fullest" after he is given the painful news that he doesn't have much time left.

1. A great disappointment [Rating: 4/10]
This is quite possibly the most overrated drama ever. I wanted very much to like this show, and to its credit, every episode has at least one really good scene. However, it doesn't make up for the sappiness and overall cheese factor that permeates every minute.

The main characters, Nakamura and Midori, have absolutely ZERO chemistry together-- the story keeps telling us they're in love, but we have no idea why. The story keeps deviating away from where the focus should be (on Nakamura and Midori) and wastes time explaining the back story of the students. I watched this with two friends and we were all bored to tears. Mostly, this drama makes me sad because it had great potential, but just didn't carry through.

2. Have a nice die! [Rating: 6/10]
This drama started out very well... Partly becos I had thought that this will be another typical teacher-student drama. But I was very wrong...
Basically, the story is about how Nakamura Hideo (the main character) deals with the fact that he has only 1 year to live, and also how the people around him reacts. A very slow drama that is pretty unrealistic. But I like the theme song though!

This drama is so touching. The plot was so well written. Even i was touched by Nakamura Sensei's story on the book n spure mi on.... To all those tat has not watched the show.... u must watch it!! it is one good drama not to be missed.

4. Well acted [Rating: 8/10]
I thought this was a very goof acting job by the lead actor. This is a more realistic drama addressing how we might have to deal with some very serious challenges. I liked it because it wasn't a sugar coated teary eyed type of drama

since first watching kusanagi years back in i cannot remember the name of the drama, i had a sneaking suspicion he had a talent for acting. well, i wasn't looking for anything special last night on cable when boku no came on, not especially after a particularly long day and just wanting to chill out and have a good sleep, but that first episode of boku no wouldn't let me go to bed. it was very good. its quite close to what life is like. i wanted to know why nakamura behaves the way he does, denying himself, holding himself aloof to what's happening around him, living but not touching life as it were. and the reasons begin to come to light on his discovery that he has only a year to live. his real self begins to surface as the unfairness of it all begins to sink in ... it made me think if i had a year to live ... but then i would know exactly what to do cos there's like an end point u can plan towards. but what happens when u know u have a debilitating illness u have to live with for the rest of your life? does this drama continue to be so good?
jun 30th: episode 6 now. this drama is a gem! when nakamura asks gently of god to be spared in the face of his love for midori ... how can anyone not feel for the 2 young lovers? strangely, though midori has walked out, i believe she will return to this love and to be with nakamura till his death (am pretty sure he dies *tears*). yada akiko is not merely a charming actress but a very good one as well. i remember her moving performance in yamato nadeshiko. because she was so good in her role, and because tsutsumi san is also an excellent actor, their parts added much depth to the drama.
jul 6: another episode today, can't wait to watch it! just a note on kohinata san's role. excellently played. the doctor who becomes more than just nakamura's physician, with his gentle advice and pearls of wisdom. from doctor to confidante, the good acting is striking. the doctor's ever smiling face, a beacon of light and hope, guiding nakamura in his final quest to live his life to the fullest. note the doctor always presents positively to nakamura, and when he speaks to midori, that is when we see the guide emerging. i'd love it if i had on my final journey such a sure hand.

Haha.. Quite an absorbing tale about a teacher Nakamura Hideo, who found out he was dying and proceeds to make the most of the remainder of his life. So determined he is that he does things that he wouldn't have normally done, and in the process influences and affects the lives of others. The lovely Akiko Yada was great in this one, although I didn't really like Tsuyoshi Kasanagi.. Thought he was a bit stiff.. maybe it's just really good acting I dunno? ha :P... Great theme song by SMAP "Sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana" but I guess it isn't a platinum seller for nothing huh..

Recommended!!~

My favorite drama ever. Really moving with a powerful message. Starts off a little slow, with a lack of chemistry between Tsuyoshi and Akiko Yada, but it does get really moving. Episodes 9 and 11 especially really got to me. The epilogue in the final episode hits hard. Also, try to track down the 7/7/2003 episode of SMAPxSMAP, a special episode dedicated to this drama, entitled "Boku to Anata no Ikiru Michi ~ONE DAY~" It serves as a little bit of a further epilogue to the drama.

I have conflicting feelings watching the dorama at first. Its mood is a bit weird as it deals with death but played out in such a light-hearted way that I couldn't help but smile in the end. That's how I felt when I finished watching it. I cried when Nakamura Sensei died, and that tells me that it's a fine dorama, no matter how slow the pace can get. It's an inspiring story that should be watched by all! Good job from Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, I would never doubt him again afterwards!

First drama I've watched where tsuyoshi was the lead actor...suprisingly...i like him in this drama. Although some might say that this drama is a bit slow but personally, i think it's a good drama. About life and death. Very nice acting by tsuyoshi dan the lead actress...very cute together. I was soo touched during the scene where hideo-san tell his mother about his illness and of course during the honeymoon scene...where he said "shitekunai". Ahh...really nice drama.

A sad plot, but most of the drama was pretty boring...many parts seemed so dragged out. Tsuyoshi and Akiko had ZERO chemistry, which made it hard to believe these two had something for each other. The ending was sad nonetheless. I didn't even realize this one had Ayase Haruka until now. Kyaaaa! @_@ +1 point for that very reason.

It was great! lotsa talking though...
Tsuyoshi did SUCH an awesome job in this drama. My mom became a fan of his after she saw this. This drama is sooo good but it's really really sad....the first ever drama that brought tears to me eyes...poor Tsuyoshi... ToT

A rather slow-moving drama. The storyline's so simple that it becomes really dull & boring. You can already predict the ending right at the start of the drama. Gave it a 7 still & hanged on watching it all because of my Akiko. Hahaha!

I brought the 8 discs VCD set....cried everytime I finished a disc. You cna imagine how much impact this dorama has to me. groink and people who like having some food for thought while watching dorama will like this very much.

A drama about life! If you have only 10 months to live, what would you do? For Yada Akiko's fans, this is a drama you guys must watch! Unlike previous dramas, she played a serious character. And,I must say,she quite good. :)

i liked the drama a lot. I usually dont like serious drama's but for some reason i liked it. Partly because tsuyoshi is one of my favorite actor. And the msg it's sending is very understandable.

I like Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, but the theme song SO doesn't fit the mood or the style of this drama. That alone made it boring--and the real point of the story ended in episode one, I feel.

I must say I'm actually buying alot of Tsu's dramas recently because most of the drama he acted is so good! This is a very nice and touching drama.
