The idea was different. A little *a lot* unrealistic, but still different. It shows that people are trying to think of new idears. And while it could have easily failed, it didnt.
But dont jump the gun here; it didnt excel. Despite the quirky new format and plot, it was still a typical teen-type dorama. The Kinki brothers did a....well, a good job. Koichi was by far the more entertaining of the two, and while Tsuyoshi obviously tried his best, he came off just a tad too stoic and uniformed. He tried to convey everything he could by the book, instead of just letting the emotions flow.
The mirad of extras also didnt help the performances. While there were some diamonds in the ruff, the slew of ongoing extras dampened the credibility of taking this dorama any seriously. And the problem with that, is this dorama had to have some serious-taking to it, in order to get the effect of emotions it was trying to entice.
Read above, and notice all the people who were obviously moved by it. Well it might have a big effect on you if you are easily moved, like say, by the evidence of a chia pet dying with its edges browning over...but if you have even the marginal aspect of critical tastes, you'll find the 'drama' of this dorama more comedic, then anything else.
Still, with the stigma of camp surrounding it *and no, I dont mean camp as in lets go to the woods and get molested by councilors, I meant the 'campy' kind...oh nevermind* it had quite a few moments where it 'did it right'. Most of them were comedic, but on this shows defense, those moments were meant to be comedic.

the last thing yuri said.. interesting storyline.. but it started out slow.. and i really didn't like to see the children and teenagers fighting over food and shelter.. it really mademe consider not finishing.. but at the end when all of them got together as a group i really enjoyed the show.. the scenes against the army were funny.. :) tsuyoshi and koichi did great.. tsuyoshi put just the right amount of hilarity in the show.. matsujun in his first role was real convincing.. kohara yuki and aiba were so cute.. but credit really did have to go to hosyo mai.. she was at her best.. i enjoyed the rest of the cast too.. shibasaki-san, ryu, makoto, ricky.. watch it if you like plots on survival.. | | Reviewed by arashinokoto on 25 July 2003 | | 3. | Me like very much [Rating: 10/10]
I liked it very much. A kakkoi fest i say. I totally loved the chracter Yuri(Hosho Mai). She was a strong female chracter and very tough so no one could mess woth her. Unless you get an all boy ganag to beat her up like Makoto did. That was cruel!!! This drama actually made me cry when Yuri died. It was so sad * sniff sniff* Sorry if i spoiled it for ne of you reading this and you dodn't watch it yet, but why did Yuri have to die. She was so cool. Okay back to reality It was over good and one of my favorites. So I recommend you watch it. I've watched it for a second time this week, we are during the corona period. And what was my surprise when I saw on the first episode at 3:00 a pachinko with the name of "korona" appearing... Just amazing.

if you love arashi and kinki kids, you'll love this. matusumoto is sooo cute i just wanna pinch his cheeks. this is definitely a must-see! the plot/story is very good. well directed/produced. it talks about friendship, family, and the crazy government. it has a very good ending considering it has a scifi feel to it. very easy to understand not like long love letter. hahaha. hosho mai is a tough lil bitch but also it's pretty sad cuz she has to... yeah. screw you dad! you weak ass muthasucka. anywho... i'm gonna go watch it again since i haven't seen it forever. | | 2. | Comments by ben_soh23 [Rating: 9/10]

Everything you need:action, contreversy, a side love story never developped (thank you!!! would have been too much) and lots and lots of cute young actors! ^^ Very touching story, makes you wonder about a lot of things in life. This series is based on the same source as the series the Tribe, except this one is better. the adults dying, and the children left alone to take care of themselves. A good drama, maybe not great but still worth the watch. and not only for the Johnny's boys in it. The story is bound to make you think about a lot of stuff, about human nature and conspiracies hidden from our eyes.
