"Big Money!" is a human drama with a suspense twist about a young man who learns the tricks of the trade about stock exchange from a well-experienced investor. The backdrop of this story is the elaborate world of banking and the stock market.
Norimichi Shirato (Nagase) lives off the money his parents send him, and his winnings at pachinko while waiting to find permanent employment. One day, Shirato is recruited by a mysterious elderly gentleman by the name of Taihei Kozuka (Ueki). Shirato later finds out that the small, yet mild mannered Kozuka was once a legendary trader.
Although clouded by the mystery surrounding Kozuka, Shirato begins to work for him. In time, Shirato finds himself being mesmerized by the wave of numbers of the market.
Sometime later, Shirato learns Kozuka's real intentions...he wants to bankrupt one of the world's leading banks, Matsuba Bank.
The two men of very different ages then try to go up against Matsuba and the elite bankers that work at the giant Matsuba such as Fumihiko Yamazaki (Taizo Harada). | | Fuji TV |

| | 1. | It's got its premises [Rating: 8/10] The background to this drama is of course money, mostly in the form of stocks. But that is misleading because this drama is about revenge, justice, and getting even, and even goes a bit into the human psyche (but lots of J Dramas delve into that aspect anyway, it's just a matter of being blatant or not). It's entertaining in a way to see them talk about money in terms of billions of yen, as if money grew on trees. It's also interesting to see how they can try to bring down the antagonist and the bank as well. Again, don't watch this from a realist's position, but rather sit back and let this entertain you, and you just might enjoy it. It's got all the elements of an emotionally fast paced drama filled with cliffhangers each episode. There were misses of course, such as the irrelevent love story that sidetracked the plot, and worse, the seemingly impossibility of always going against the same bank every time. It's a typical root for the hero to win kind of drama. | | Reviewed by Hiro Toyo on 23 May 2006 | | 2. | alright [Rating: 7/10] Shirato Normichi learns how to trade stocks with the help of Kozuka Taihei. Shirato deals with the gains and losses of stocks and money, and then eventually gets involved with Kozuka Taihei's quest to destroy Matsuba Bank, and Yamazaki Fumihiko.
This is one of those dramas where it starts off good but the hero's (Shirato) motivation seemed more contrived than anything.
Playing the villain, scamming old people's insurance money, is Yamazaki Fumihiko. He's the epitome of a greedy banker. He also trades stock when he's not scamming. Excellent acting from Harada.
Hasegawa Kyoko plays the naive assistent to Yamazaki: Hosaka Haruka. Not much to say here because the character was good. I speculated that someone was going to wear something outrageously "red" and flaunt it around Yamazaki early on and wasn't at all surprised when it turned out to be her.
Taihei's love interest is Yachigusa Kaoru. This subplot between to people in their elder years dragged the drama along. After a few episodes I skipped the scenes with the two of them.
Kohinata Fumiyo plays Yakuza Boss Tatsumi Shuji -- Kozuka Taihei's right-hand man, who his character admits what he's only there to scare people. He's a happy guy compared to his henchmen, Makida, who's more the traditional gangster. Makida falls in love with Okamoto Aya, Shirato's pal, which was cute.
Could have been written a little better. | | Reviewed by bba1 on 11 September 2008 |

They did it in an American movie with G. Rabisi and they're doing it in a drama called Big Money! in Japan! Nagase Tomoya plays yet another quick-mouthed, young, listless guy looking for something to do, but the scenario of Big Money! is AT FIRST, different from his others, but quickly falls into the typical quick-mouthed, lackdaisical youth. By episode 3, you begin to see that Nagase is to be the hero with various too-staged scenarios of needy people and money. It's enjoyable except for that. | | 6. | Comments by ephesus [Rating: 9/10] kyoko is bangin' | | 7. | Comments by kawai [Rating: 9/10] Nice piece of dorama for gaining some financial knowledge. | | 8. | Comments by yt [Rating: 5/10] just like the theme song by Sayaka | | 9. | Comments by moonchyld [Rating: 8/10] omoshiroi~ | | 10. | Comments by natzumi [Rating: ?/10] watching | | 11. | Comments by caitlincoffee [Rating: ?/10] chinese subs... | | 12. | Comments by cghu007 [Rating: ?/10] Wish list (with BM/English subtitled) | | 13. | Comments by idetakun [Rating: 9/10] funny and good story~ | | 14. | Comments by ffrostte [Rating: 10/10] Great plot, good acting, wonderful tension, and at the end of the day, one can even learn something about the stock market as well as the banking system (in Japan).
