Next to Pride, one of my favourite j-dramas. I LOVE KANESHIRO IN THIS!!! Mou, he was so incredibly adorable and sweet....he's such a tall handsome guy, there were some things that I found really funny in his OOC mannerisms. Some things that were cute: "gomenachai~" / "ohh yes~!" / "oui madame!" / "iyaaan!"...
I was also a sucker for the oldies theme in the show - some really good songs used here. Another Yashima-Kantoku sakuhin that I absolutely loved. |

An accident caused by destiny but made dreams come true - that's what this drama is all about. Take a quick glance, nothing seems too extraordinary, another shobu drama, another love story, HOWEVER, never have I such a drama done so well, and soooo moving. The love in Golden Bowl in stronger than those specifc love dramas. You really get to see how the bond builds and truly hope for them to be together. The two leads are excellent Shu-chan and Hitomi-chan, both are charismatic and they have such excellent dynamics with each other!!! Highly highly recommended. It is predictable yes, but predictable in the fact that you will definitely be moved beyond your expectation. |

Great chemistry between Kaneshiro Takeshi and Kuroki Hitomi - they make a cute couple! The episodes are somewhat formulaic but they get a little better past ep 4 or 5. This being a sports drama was a lot of fun to watch. The bowling competitions were only so-so and the fact that the boss kept accepting the challenges from the landlord got to be pretty repetitive. The main highlight, sports-wise, in the drama were the different opponents that Hitomi and Akutagawa had to face up against. Other than that, the bowling competitions were pretty cheesy especially the ending scene when Akutagawa would (not surprisingly) knock down the last pin(s) with the golden bowling ball.
However, what kept me watching was the pretty complicated romance story and the fact that I really liked Takeshi Kaneshiro's character in this series. Hitomi is married and Akutagawa likes her, but the fact that he continuously encourages her to stay in the marriage even after she learns that her husband is having an affair is very sweet. It was definitely nice to see the end of this series. Plus, I found that the kiss between Hitomi and Akutagawa was definitely very sexy.
Overall, it's a fun sports series to watch, but what will keep you watching is not the bowling, but the love story in it. |

I gave this a 10 because I have watched this at least 4 or 5 times. I adore the positively uncool setting, an old bowling hall. The chemistry between the main leads, Kaneshiro Takeshi and Kuroki Hitomi, is great, their age gap doesn´t matter at all.
Both of them are good in lying to themselves and not admitting failures. I like the moments when they have their frank dialogues - mostly when playing (and often winning) tournaments.
The main characters feel real, because the drama shuns away from the usual "weak woman that needs to be saved - strong man that´ll protect her" scheme. Hitomi, albeit a housewife, is strong and takes responsability for her life and failures, Shu is weaker but strong enough to not choose the wrong girl.
And let´s not forget the entertaining sidekicks, Gorilla, Midori, Akira and Owner. |

I wasn't all that enthusiastic about watching this drama at first since I'm not much of a sports (or bowling) fan, but after I started on the first episode, I realized that even though the drama was mostly set in a bowling alley, it did not center around bowling at all. This drama is about the relationships that the bowlers and regulars had with each other. There is a slight romantic subplot in this drama and many other conflicts going on. I think this is a must-see for those who like old-school dramas. |
