Synopsis
After 25 years together, getting to know what your husband or wife really thinks.

Taichi Yamaguchi (Masakazu Tamura) is the president of a mail order company. He has his own TV shopping show and uses his wife in his standard sales pitch.

"My wife is going to be furious. You're not selling it that cheaply, are you?"

This sales pitch works well for him. His wife, Hana (Hitomi Kuroki), has been with Taichi for 25 years. She met him while she was at junior college and was taken with him at first sight.

They have 2 children – a daughter Nao (Ai Kato) and a son Jun (Takashi Tsukamoto).

As it is, Hana is pretty happy with her life, but she has to take care of all matters relating to the home and feels a little sad that he husband no longer sees her as a woman.

One day, a dispute erupts in the Yamaguchi household. Nao is getting married to Shingo Motoki (Nao Omori). One of Taichi's most trusted employees. Whether it is because he had no idea they were seeing each other, or that they had reserved a venue for their reception without consulting him, Taichi is vehemently opposed to the union. He takes Hana with him to the reception venue to cancel the reservation. However, while there he meets Sachiko Machida (Michiko Haneda) who looks like an old flame of his from before his marriage. Hana becomes uneasy...

Exploring the themes of what it means to be a husband and wife and the reason that people marry, it depicts the every day of a husband and wide in a real yet comical way. It portrays two people who think they have lived the ideal life, but is just like you and me.

1. Married Couple will appreciate this drama! [Rating: 8/10]
Predicable Plot : typical family fued, affair, love, puberty, marriage... Plus at the end of each episdoe, Tamura's character always reveals what happens next, but still interesting to watch how it happens. It just gets better as more chaos unfolds and of course, the last episode is the best. ***Avail for trade, 2 DVDs, B-~C+ VHS rip/Chinese

2. Fuufu = so so? No no [Rating: 8/10]
A sweet and sensitive look at an aging couple struggling with their marriage. This well-acted drama is a nice follow-up to all the marriage-happy endings. Reminds me of these lines in Kurosagi: "Cinderella meets Prince Charming. They get married. That's when the real story begins."

Finally rewarded for my patience as this series was recently commercially released w/ English subtitles. My wife and I are huge Tamura Masakazu and Kuroki Hitomi fans ... going all the way back to their last performance together in Oyaji. These two perform well together in both series but they clearly shine in Fuufu. I absolutely loved the start of each episode as Tamura-san cheerfully introduces one of his products for sale with his catch-phrase "my wife is going to be mad at me for selling at these low prices" ... or something to that effect.

I'll try not to go too much into the details on the series but will highly recommend this to any married couple who has been together a long time (e.g. 10 years or more). As Tamura and Kuroki's characters continue to play out the script, it caused me to reflect on my own marriage and especially on the things I have taken for granted regarding my wife during our time together. When it appears the ending is headed for depression and hopelessness, the divorced couple meet and the program ends with a ray of hope that everything they've learned about themselves and each other, over the course of the series, will give them the courage to reunite and try again.

In all, a touching story that's well worth watching. This is about the fourth series I've seen with Tamura playing the father role in a family J-dorama (the others being Oyaji, Otousan and I Love you Mum) and I think his talents serve that role well. I've seen Kuroki in series such as Oyaki, Ringu and Good Luck and, while she was excellent in all of those, she seems to play the motherly role in these series the best.

Actor's on-screen age vs. real age:
Tamura Masakazu: 59 vs 61
Kuroki Hitomi: 46 vs 44
Kato Ai: 25 vs 22
Tsukamoto Takashi: 22 vs 22 (same)
Nishida Naomi: 32 vs 34
Oomori Nao: 28 vs 32
Haneda Michiko: 37 vs 36

All perform well. However I really cannot see Katon Ai as a 25 year old "Old Maid" who's thinking about getting married all the time. She is so young that I think it's cruel for her to mentally fit into that role. Actually she looks more like Tsukamoto Takashi's younger sister (in real age she IS younger).

kinda boring at lst with very predictable plot. but the last episode was excellent! it won my tears a couple of times. My fave scene was where Tamura Masakazu & Kuroki Hitomi were preparing for divorce & also how they met a year later. What Tamura Masakazu said to Kuroki Hitomi melted my heart "There's something you can't do. That is to die before I do. I won't forgive you if you do so" Awwww....

Mac 2005: Another family drama, but involved between the parents. At first u will feel sry to Kana, and the story grows, other characters develop too, they started to be more caring and more understanding. Still, i dun really find that this drama is interesting, maybe i watched too many similar type dramas.......

A nice little story about married couples and relationships. Although it features 2 ravishing beauties in Kuroki Hitomi and Kato Ai, the story lacks punch and doesn't deliver as a top drama. Aesthetically it's awesome, but plot-wise, it could use a little more.

Starring some of my favorite actresses (Kuroki and Katou), along with some good actors, sure enough to make me a happy camper on Sundays when it starts airing! :D
