Thx loveless. ANother Q: Is it easy to uninstall opera, for instance in the worst case scenario? Not that I will (b/c i hear such rave review here), but it's b/c you can't uninstall IE.

yes it is...and yes u can.... try it man.... the only bad thing i find in it is that it has a lil banner on top..but every1 just ignores it.... opera is faster than IE and has more features but i dunno how well it'll be for some one with a dial-up connection since it has a banner Crazy

K, I tried searching the thread but didnt find anything realted to this yet so here I am creating a new one. (BTW. We should seriously consider having another search option - the search by topic title only)

1) BT client - u guess it, azureus. hehehe

2) DVD/VCD/AVI/Multimedia player - ZoomPlayer. Very capable player for dvd/vcd/avi/divx/ogm/matroska with lots of option including play speed settings/on-screen menus (very nice for remote controls), able to use winamp plug-ins (if u install the DC-DSP filter) on ur mp3/avi files so u can have surrouund sound, etc), can also use powerdvd codecs like dolby pro-logic ii or dolby surround thru some tweaking)

3) Wallpaper Changer - Webshots. Consumes very little resource and u can put calendar on the desktop itself.

4) System Statistics - Sysmetrix

5) GUI replacement - I like WindowBlinds

6) Firewall - zonealarm/norton personal firewall

7) Download Manager - Flashget. very, very fast. also has site explorer so u can browse a website like a gui-based ftp.

8) IRC client - Sysreset with the firewall monitor and server tracker add-on

9) MP3 player - winamp v2 since u can call winamp2 inside a sysmetirx or windowblinds skin.

10) Spyware tools - AdAware

EDIT:
11) Cant believe I forgot to put VirtualdubMod. This is what I use for all my video editing/cutting/capturing/conversion. Very handy for making avatars as well.

Seems interesting. I'll tell my software lineups:

1. Multimedia
- Winamp 2.8x - Simple and it works!
- BSplayer - The best media player around!!! Eats significantly little resource compared to the other media players.
- Media Player Classic - Takes the second place to BSplayer
- PowerDVD - Must have this installed (mpeg2 codec) in order to view the svcd/mpeg2 files.
- ffdshow - Handles the divx and xvid codecs.
- Directvobsub - displays the subtitles on screen.
- Nimo codec pack - installed only the audio codecs.
- Quicktime - Movie trailers can be viewed

2. Internet security:
- Zone Alarm - A splendid firewall, stable and effiecient.
- Norton Antivirus - I've always used Norton.
- Spywareblaster - Prevents spyware components from being installed to your comp.
- Ad Aware - A MUST tool to have frickin spywares removed.

3. P2P
- Winmx - Prolly the best for jpop goods, even better if you're able to type in Japanese. Most of the rare goods are in Japanese.
- DC++ - Good for mainstream goods and anime. Crap, those greedy bastard, my Lupin downloads gettin cut off!
- Bittorrent Experimental "beta" - Hehe! Why bother to switch to other client since the current client works perfectly.

4. Misc.
- Regcleaner - Safely removes unnecessary and unused registeries.
- Norton Utilities and Cleansweep - Superb maintenance tool to have your comp kept fit.
- Open Office - Free office programme! Same as the M$ one, but for free!
- Discjuggler and Alcohol 120% - Versatile burnin programmes.
- Old Nero (5.xx) - still use it Smile
- Winzip and Winrar - Essential tools to compress and uncompress packed files.
- Smartftp and leechftp - Great ftp clients!
- Serv-u - ftp server
- Divfix and mpeg corrector - fix the corrupted avi and mpeg files.
- Flashget - A magnificent download manager!
- Irfanview - Free pictures viewin programme.
- Easy CD-DA extractor - rips cd and music files can be converted to the other formats.

1) BT client - ABC now, I think it's very good.

2) DVD/VCD/AVI/Multimedia player - Zoom Player I like how I can change the skin. I modified the minimal skin to just the bare minimum. And Media Player Classic when ZP doesn't work (quicktime or realmedia files for example). Both player are always being updated.

4) System Statistics - coolmon, I just need the info, no need for pretty stuff as I don't think my system can handle it anyways

6) Firewall - ZoneAlarm free version, easy to use

7) Download Manager - Flashget but rarely need to use it.

8) IRC client - just mIRC but again rarely use it now

9) MP3 player - winamp 2.9 with MAD plug-in I think it sounds better than the default mp3 decoder

10) Browsers - IE6, Mozilla and Opera - I think each have their ups and downs. IE6 is the fastest, Mozilla and Opera has more features.

11) Misc - Xnews for d/l from newsgroups and WinMX for jpop stuff
and dBpowerAMP Music Converter for converting my mp3s to a lower bitrate so I can fit more into my mp3 player

I'm curious Pemu why 2.8x specifically? What's different about this version? Why not 2.9?

I'm the type of a person who never upgrades the working setup (exception is internet security). If this works, I'll keep it and won't upgrade a new version. Just to play it safe Smile
Installing new version may cause instabilty to the current programme.
I've had horrible experience with the codecs back then! Stupid me, why did I have to uninstall the old settings...after a few hrs of solving the codec issues I managed to solve it. Currently all the video files work on my comp Smile Too much hassle over installation. I have learned my lesson.
