Just watched Deguchi No Nai Umi/ Sea Without Exit ... it's another one of those WW2 film. It was based on a novel by Hideo Yokoyama.

If you're in the mood for something serious.

Cast includes Ichikawa Ebizu, Yusuke Iseya, Ueno Juri , Kashiwabara Shuuji & Shun Shioya.

It's an interesting look at the life of four kaiten pilots, human torpedoes.

Not to mention Ueno Juri in a sort of demure role- her character in the book is a bit different though.

I watched the first 45 minutes of Maiko, Haaaan, but I didn't laugh once. Crazy Sweat I found it mildly amusing, but ... I guess I prefer more subtle kind of humour.

The English subs I have is not that good- it made my head ache. But you'd still understand the gist of the story though. Sweat

Watched Saiyuki, The Movie...very good, a bit longish but still very good...better than the drama...yeah, Shingo's still yelling his head off, but it's more tolerable in this...
some really amazing SFX...
But best of all, Tabe Mikako really was the female lead...the more I see of this girl, the more I like...

Recently saw How to Become Myself with Narumi Riko....not bad but I preferred Shindou better.

Oh yeah I recently watched A Distant Cry from Spring starring Ken Takakura & Chieko Baisho, a gem from Yamada Yoji....many thanks to shin2 for another excellent selection from his collection.

I went to the Japan Film Festival earlier this evening....we saw the film Maiko Haaan!....it was absolutely one of the funniest films I've seen in the last year or TWO...superbly funny, in fact....the host of actors from Sadao Abe, Shinichi Tsutumi, Kou Shibasaki to Shiro Ito were fantastic. I can unequivocally recommend this film as one of the best films of 2007. Everybody during the screening was literally laughing out loud. If you enjoy Japanese comedy, this film is not to be missed.

Watched this today - thanks Tu_triky for the subs - pure bliss watching this light comedy while recovering from food poisoning Victory! Peace!

Downloading right now... Let's see if the subs live up to the poster's claims. Fingers crossed

Tu_triky,

Glad you enjoyed it. A Yamada Yoji movie is always a treat to watch. He's such a great filmmaker and continues, even in his late 70's, to make outstanding films.

I managed to rid that taste after a 50-50 Clorox gargle over several days.
