Lady Zhuge's drama votes (1)
Iryu [医龍 Team Medical Dragon]
This drama got me hooked on Japanese series, so how can I not give it my vote?

Lady Zhuge's artiste votes (7)
Dohmoto Tsuyoshi [堂本剛]
Okay, so honestly it wasn't exactly love at first sight for me with Tsuyoshi. I even wondered why he was so popular upon seeing his pics. But luckily I came to my senses after watching his memorable onscreen performances and hearing him sing. He's no doubt a natural born talent in many respects!
Fujiki Naohito [藤木直人]
I'm pretty sure it's his eyes. They're mesmerizing and I can get lost just staring into their depths...mmm...aHeM. So I digress, but you see what I mean? Naohito is a decent actor as well, as I've seen him pull off a variety of roles and honestly I would give anything he's in a try. Plus he sings well too, writes most of his own songs, is very intelligent, and is an all-around good and personable guy. He sets the bar for all other guys. His wife is so lucky!
Fukuyama Masaharu [福山雅治]
I love his natural acting style, enjoy his songs, and admire his versatility. What a charming man!
Horikita Maki [堀北真希]
Maki is so kawaii! Gotta love her beautiful eyes and dainty features, although she's not particularly photogenic. She's also a good actress who will only get better and better.
Karasawa Toshiaki [唐沢寿明]
He's a very convincing, confident, and passionate actor who really gets into his roles. I also find him quite attractive in a non-conventional way. Plus he has this cute pout like no other, haha.
Odagiri Joe [オダギリジョー]
He's a very versatile and talented actor who's really cool and has this endearing look about him that grows and grows on you.
Tsukamoto Takashi [塚本高史]
Let's see...he's coolness, hotness, cuteness, and sexiness all rolled into one. Those lips will be the death of me, haha! Takashi is a talented young actor who deserves bigger and better roles!

I watched every episode even though it's not my type of drama. It's conceptually meaningful, but too slow and failed to engage me.

Rating: 9/10 (Watched)

Bambino! [バンビーノ!]

It's predictable, boring, and too forced. I stopped watching after episode 3.
Bara No Nai Hana Ya [薔薇のない花屋]
Battle Royale - Survival Program [バトル・ロワイアル]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
This is actually a meaningful movie with an interesting storyline below all the rather fake blood, guts and gore.
Beach boys [ビーチボーイズ]
Bengoshi no Kuzu [弁護士のくず]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I think this drama is quite underrated although it is heavily dependent on individual humor preferences. Subtle lessons are taught without being preachy. Anyway, I found it entertaining and there was good integration between the main characters and the cases.
Big wing [ビッグウイング]
Bijo ka Yajuu [美女か野獣]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
It's too episodic for my liking and some of the stories are better than others, but Masha makes the whole series worthwhile. He's just so kakkoii!
Boku dake no Madonna [僕だけのマドンナ]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
This is a weird romance drama with some funny and unexpected moments. However, it's too draggy in the middle and would have been better off at 9-10 episodes max. Cute ending and catchy OST, though.
Boku no Mahou Tsukai [僕の魔法使い]
Bokura no yuuki ~miman toushi~ [ぼくらの勇氣 ~未滿都市~]

Brother Beat [ブラザー☆ビート]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Great cast chemistry and a feel-good storyline. It makes me wish for some bros!
Byakkotai [白虎隊]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
The first half is better than the second half, but overall I don't feel that it's a particularly outstanding adaptation. The story is sad, but slow. I felt bad checking my watch. Or maybe not.
Chakushin Ari [着信あり]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
This is a pretty interesting mystery/horror drama that I finished in only 2 days. There are many twists and turns as various pieces of the puzzle are revealed, though the story got a bit too ridiculous towards the end in spite of itself. I'm still not sure how I feel about the open ending. I like the techno-style theme song "Heart", by D.D.D.

Fukada Kyoko doesn't do much in this co-production except run and bounce up and down. Not my idea of acting. I can't remember much from this drama, but am just glad it's only 4 episodes long.

Iryu [医龍 Team Medical Dragon]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
I really like all the surgical sequences and how the pathophysiology is mapped out. With a storyline involving touching and funny moments alike, strong performances by its cast, and an excellent OST, this serial shouldn't be missed.
Iryu 2 [医龍 2]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Itazura na kiss [イタズラなKiss]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I liked it overall, but the ending was too big of a jump. I mean, Naoki never seemed to even have feelings beyond annoyance and maybe acceptance for Kotoko, but then...it turns into a fairytale after all.
Itoshi Kimie [愛し君へ]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
I very willingly ate up this formularic storyline about a cameraman destined to lose his eyesight in 3 months and the pediatric intern dedicated to being by his side and overcoming realistic obstacles to endure the path of life together. The pacing is on the slow side, but to me it's more like stopping to smell the roses rather than an insidious kind. There are many touching scenes (amplified by the memorable OST), especially between the main characters, their interactions with the kids, and several with Shiki and her father. I also love Shiki's profound narrations throughout the series.
Jikou Keisatsu [時効警察]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
There's one case per episode and each one pretty much follows the same formula; some are better than others. Not for whodunnit fans! It tries to be like Trick with the quirky humor, but is nowhere as endearing. The only character I like in here is Kiriyama (Joe Odagiri). Everyone else is rather annoying. I love Joe, but can't believe there will be a sequel to this crap...and sadly I'll probably eventually end up watching it too since Joe makes so few TV dramas nowadays.
Joshi Deka! [ジョシデカ!]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Jotei [女帝]
Rating: 6/10 (Watched)
Reflecting back on this series, it's a total waste of time. Most of the characters were unbelievably one-dimensional. The lead actress (Kato Rosa) was weak and the main character pretty much just lucked out for the most part.
Juken no Kamisama [受験の神様]

Jyoou no Kyoushitsu [女王の教室]
Kaette Kita Jikou Keisatsu 2 [帰ってきた時効警察 2]

Most of the stories aren't really scary unless the concept of ghosts and spirits give you goosebumps. I like the third story best.
Kao [顔]
Karei naru Ichizoku [華麗なる一族]

Kasouken no Onna 1 [科捜研の女 1]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I like the drama's quirkiness and suspense, and it's always interesting to see how evidence is used to nab the culprit in each case. However, I'm disappointed that the identity of the culprit is usually pretty obvious, which diminishes the mystery aspect of the series. In short, focus tends to be on the "how" and "why" and not as much on the "who."
Kasouken no Onna 2 [科捜研の女 2]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
Kasouken no Onna 3 [科捜研の女 3]
Kasouken no Onna 4 [科捜研の女 4]

Kazoku -tsuma fuzai oto no sonzai [家族〜妻の不在・夫の存在〜]
Keizoku [ケイゾク]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
If you like Trick, you'll probably like this one too. The humor is just as quirky, but the ambience is darker and more serious...reminiscent of film noir. Make sure you watch the special and movie as well (in that order), lest the ending leave you very unsatisfied.
Kekkon Dekinai Otoko [結婚できない男]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Abe Hiroshi at his finest! He had all of Kuwano's mannerisms down to a science without overracting. I laughed so much throughout the drama. Ken-chan is adorable, as is Eiji. I discovered the deliciousness that is Takashi via this drama. =)
Kimi wa Petto [きみはペット]
Kindaichi Shonen no Jikembo 3 [金田一少年の事件簿 3]

Nice pacing and interesting mysteries. Jun is a much better Kindaichi than Kame. I also like Naitou Takashi as Kenmochi.
Kindaichi shonen no Jikenbo (2005) [金田一少年の事件簿]

Kame's not a very convincing Hajime Kindaichi.
Kindaichi shonen no jikenbo 1 [金田一少年の事件簿 1]

Tsuyoshi is THE perfect Kindaichi Hajime. I've seen some of the anime and watched Kame and Matsujun's portrayals before Tsuyoshi's, so there's no doubt in my mind.

Kurosagi [クロサギ]

I like it for the most part, but it does get repetitive and episodic. Don't think too much about the plot, otherwise there will be loopholes aplenty.

M no Higeki [Mの悲劇]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Actually I'd give it a 7.5. Good pacing, overall message, and execution, but the premise and circumstances surrounding why the two people wanted revenge on Ando (especially the second one) are too far-fetched. And the um..."Sorry, I forgot" excuse is too lame to be used more than once believably.

Excellent drama with dark, interesting cases. The lame voiceover guy every 15 minutes cracks me up: *Eh-gee*
Psychometrer eiji 2
raiaa geemu [ライアーゲーム]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)

Regatta [レガッタ]
Remote [リモート]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I honestly wasn't expecting much from this series and almost passed on it 'cause of Kyoko Fukada, but it's a pleasant surprise. It's funny with a decent supporting cast and the cases are quite interesting for the most part. Kyoko is annoying, but tolerable. Koichi performs well as the cursed shut-in genius detective.

Liked it 'til the end. Grrr.
Shiroi Kyoto [白い巨塔]
Rating: 9/10 (Bought & Watched)
Karasawa Toshiaki's performance as Zaizen Goro has made me a fan. This is a great drama which illustrates the dark side of Japanese hospitals, the fine line between friendship and enmity, and how things can come full circle in unexpected ways.

This drama starts off well, but gets too repetitive with a certain love triangle. The highlights for me are Takashi's cameo appearances in each episode as Kume.
Summer snow
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
I predicted the ending as a sort of cruel joke and was pissed when it turned out I was actually right. Bah! That's why I'm giving it a 7 instead of the 9 I originally intended. I enjoyed this drama until about the last episode or so, especially Domoto Tsuyoshi's portrayal of Natsuo.

Tentai Kanzoku [天体観測]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
This is a touching series about 7 friends, their friendship, and the harsh reality of life in general with solid performances by the entire cast. Backed by a great OST and theme songs, it's worth a watch!
Teppan Shoujo Akane [鉄板少女アカネ]

The drawing cards for me are Takashi and Maki. Unfortunately, the drama itself is quite disappointing and I've struggled to continue watching.
Teru Teru Ashita [てるてるあした]
Rating: 7/10 (Watched)
Tiger & Dragon [タイガー&ドラゴン]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
It's a little confusing at first with the interchanging settings, but the storyline is actually consistently smart and funny. It's not your typical drama, and that's a good thing in this case.
To heart ~ koishite shinitai [to Heart 恋して死にたい]
Tokkyu Tanaka 3 Go [特急田中3号]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
First 2 episodes: 6 / Episodes 3-9: 9 / Final 2 episodes: 7 / Overall average: 8 I wouldn't have watched this series if it weren't for Takashi because pretty much nothing else about it interested me on paper, but I'm glad I did. With his usual ease, Takashi does a convincing job of playing Hanagata-san, who's quite different from his "real life self." Fangirl aside, my favorite performance is Akiyama Ryuji as Momoyama-san. This series is definitely one of the better productions of the Spring 2007 season with its humor and character development. Even Tanaka Koki won me over and I really wasn't expecting that. However, this is still a predictable romantic comedy at the core and it did take me three episodes to warm up to the story.

Umizaru [海猿]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
I fell in love with the theme song "Ocean" by B'z before I even watched the drama and the latter certainly doesn't disappoint either. It offers a solid, balanced look at the lives, relationships, and of course trials and tribulations of Japanese coast guards. A wide range of issues are covered and handled realistically for the most part. I contemplated, laughed, and shed a few tears here and there too. A certain death kinda irked me, though. Was it really necessary? Plus there wasn't sufficient follow-up on the culprit(s) IMO, but maybe that's beyond the scope of this series.
Umizaru [海猿]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Unfair [アンフェア]
Rating: 9/10 (Watched)
An "episode turner" that will have you guessing 'til the end - I love it! I wish there are more dramas like this one.
Ushi ni Negai wo: Love & Farm [牛に願いを - Love & Farm]
Utsukushii hito [美しい人]
Rating: 5/10 (Watched)
This drama starts off with a promising first episode, but then drags on and on with boring exchanges between the two leads. It's a shame really, with such an intriguing premise, but I ended up only watching the first half and then fastforwarded through the rest to see how it would end.

Yamato Nadeshiko [やまとなでしこ【大和撫子】]
Yan Papa [やんパパ]
Rating: 6/10
The anime element is pretty unique to this drama, but the actual storyline is predictable and average. Tomoya Nagase and Goto Maki give the best performances. Kato Ai's character is quite annoying.
Yaoh [夜王〜YAOH〜]

Yasashii Jikan [優しい時間]
Yasha [夜叉]
Rating: 8/10 (Watched)
Very, very interesting storyline and an impressive display of versatility by Ito Hideaki in dual roles. Kashiwabara Shuji is also very convincing as a blind Moichi. The main drawback is repetitive flashback scenes which make the drama unnecessarily draggy at times.
