Karina to star in TBS 2015 Fall drama

Karina will be making her return to dramaland through the TBS Autumn 2015 drama "Kekkonshiki no zenjitsu ni" (The day before the wedding) starting in October in the Tuesdays 10pm timeslot. Her last leading role was in FujiTV's 2011 drama "Watashi ga renai dekinai riyuu" while she also appeared in the same TV station's 2013 drama "SUMMER NUDE".

She plays the role of Serizawa Hitomi who works as a project leader in a real estate company and is due to be married to a doctor played by Suzuki Ryohei. However, just 100 days before the wedding, she is diagnosed to be suffering from a brain tumour. Just then, she also reunites with her mother played by Harada Mieko who she had not seen for 28 years since the latter eloped with another man. Despite their distant relationship, Hitomi's mother's unconventional way of encouraging her to overcome the odds spurs Hitomi not to wallow in pity and try to be positive about her situation.

Hitomi's father will be played by Endo Kenichi.

Filming is due to begin in early September.

Karina to star in Fuji TV 2017 Winter drama

Karina will be starring in the upcoming FujiTV Winter 2017 drama "Kirawareru Yuuki" (The courage to be disliked) which will be shown from January in the Thursdays 10pm timeslot.

The detective drama is based loosely on the bestseller series by psychotherapist Alfred Adler which had sold more than 1.8 million copies to date and features Karina as the lead character Andou Ranko who is a 32-year-old single police detective. Although she is very capable at her job and has solved many difficult cases to date, she can't get used to the organisation structure and is a loner who doesn't listen to others' advice and does things the way she wants to. Due to her attitude, she becomes disliked by her colleagues in the police force which is predominantly made up of men. NEWS member Kato Shigeaki plays Aoyama Toshio, Ranko's new partner transferred to her department and is the exact opposite of her because he cares too much about other people's opinions and tries hard not to be disliked by others. He dislikes Ranko immensely due to her wilful behaviour. Shiina Kippei plays the role of Daimonji Tetsuto who is a psychology professor who tells Aoyama about the existence of Adler's psychology theories thus helping him to understand how to co-exist with Ranko.

Karina recounted that when she read Adler's book, she had the impression that psychology is a difficult topic but she discovered that it will be easier on herself if she can think of herself in a different way so the book did influence her in a positive way. She hopes to put in her all for this drama and make a good drama along with the help of her co-stars and staff members.

Karina to star in FujiTV 2-part drama special

Karina will be starring in the new FujiTV 2-part drama SP "AI ~ Watashi to kanojo to jinkou chinou ~" (AI ~ I, she and artificial intelligence) which will be shown in the newly set-up timeslot "Black Monday 24" at 12.25am on 2 October and at 12.35am on 9 October. The comedy describes how Tanaka Shizuku (Karina) who works in a system development company, installs the AI developed by her company into her computer and causes havoc in the lives of her and her flatmate Sakurai Momo who is a bisexual model (Ikeda Elaiza) and interested in Shizuku, thanks to the lecherous male AI Imaizumi Seiji played by Shison Jun.

Karina commented that while imagining how it would be like to live with the unpredictable AI, she hoped that viewers will enjoy watching this story. As this is a type of character which she has never played before, she found it to be refreshing and interesting. Through living with Momo and Seiji, Shizuku comes to realise what is really important to humans so she hoped that viewers will also be inspired as well.

Karina hospitalized with acute peritonitis

Karina has been hospitalized since September 1st for acute peritonitis. As a result, she will not be participating in the event for 'Osaka Ohsho' on the 8th.

Karina's agency's official website states, " Karina was scheduled to appear in the 'Osaka Ohsho New CM Presentation Event' on September 8th. However, she was examined at a hospital after feeling unwell, and was diagnosed with acute peritonitis. As such, she will be absent from the event to take care of herself."

Hope she gets better soon.

Karina updated her Instagram that today, September 9th, she got out of the hospital and will continue to recuperate at home.
