Rumor say she is basically leaving because of her brother, but will sign on with a new label and continue her solo career. They will graduate her from H!P.

We are working on the story now, but some shocking news has arrived, and according to Nikkan Sports, UpFront announced that Goto Maki (22) will graduate from Hello! Project. All this since her brother Goto Yuuki (21) was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Departament, and caused all the troubles including to other H!P members. Nikkan Sports also reported that this "graduation" was also because UpFront had different plans for her, and she has a different idea for her singer career.
Goto Maki is now having her tour finale concert, and she commented "Sorry for all the trouble my brother Yuuki has caused, my future it's uncertain, but I will continue with my solo activities as a singer, I want to keep progressing with my music".
There is no "official" announcement from Hello! Project page, yet. But as far as we know, the official news so far regarding Goto Maki is that her single disappeared from online stores and she won't be participating on Hello! Project 2008 Winter concert due schedule conflicts.
According to some comments from japanese fans, Goto Maki won't have a graduation concert and her last concert is happening now in Omiya's Sonic City (Saitama).
According to fans who are now in the concert and they are getting insider information, Goto Maki will continue singing but not with Hello! Project, she has been looking to keep singing with another company since last summer when Yuuki's crime happened. Also, the "graduation" has been something she and UpFront already knew it would happen and she still did her best until the last one in Oyama.

Maki remains in UFA, which of course owns H!P. They didn't want her to go too far away from them. I wish she left entirely for Sony though. So much for entire freedom.

Yea, seems like japanese record companies are like a mafia - once you are in you can never go out . Don't know whats the situation in Sony, but I had a mixed feeling of her going in Avex, because they already have Koda Kumi, BoA, Ayumi and it'll be very difficult for her to get the spot light.
I'm really proud of Goto-san, because she has done something that most girls at H!P are afraid to do - voicing an opinion. Hope that new label will give her more creative freedom. _________________

And now the official reason is out. Maki was seeing someone who was an accomplice of her brother with the cable stuff, and they haven't been in contact after Yuuki and the his people started stealing the cables.
