Feels like reviving this thread, because I'm a Malaysian!
To date, 8TV has shown Mukodono 2001, Love Generation (1998), Double Score (2002), Bijo ka Yajuu aka Beauty or the Beast (2003) and currently it's airing Shomuni Final (2002). I believe that Takuya Kimura's PRIDE would make it to this part of the world (hopefully soon!), but I've noticed 8TV's trend of showing only Fuji TV's doramas, so I suspect that 8TV has some kind of business deal with Fuji TV. The only TBS's doramas that have ever made it to our shore when they were aired on TV3 are Meguri Ai, Tomodachi no Koibito aka Friends & Lovers, and La Periode Bleue. Even Beautiful Life (TBS) was aired on ntv7. I'm kind of hoping that Good Luck would be aired soon considering that Beauty or the Beast was already aired, but I guess, it might not happen. _________________

Actually, I can understand why so many Malaysians love Korean dramas. Because Korean dramas are so melodramatic, and Malaysians love melodramas! I like Korean dramas, a few are actually quite good, but I definitely prefer Japanese doramas. Korean dramas are too cliche, too unoriginal, too many coincidences, too many recycled plots. Japanese doramas have variety and originality. Even when it's recycled, it's done in a refreshing way that you tend to forget that it's not entirely original.
And yeah, I'm Malay too, and definitely a Malaysian! _________________

we're in the same boat, gakuchi. everytime i go to the vcd shops, they keep pushing me to buy korean dorama, since i keep asking why there are not many jdorama available. yang ada pun with chinese subs. since i can't understand mandarin, i've no other choice but to leave the shop with an empty hand. i'm so disappointed coz i'm crazy about jdorama, n i don't really get it why my friends really into korean drama. it's the same old story, just change the title and the actors. but, come to think of it, my friends too can't understand why i'm so crazy with jdorama . all i want is the vcd shops to stock their premises with MORE jdorama, with eng/malay subs, and for 8tv to show us latest drama.... is that too much to ask???

Yup, yup...I truly understand this. Sometimes, it's best that you explain to them with action instead of words. Lend them two really really good J-doramas which are out-of-this-world, totally different like night and day from each other to your friends, and then add the fact that J-doramas are much more original and not recycled compared to Korean dramas. And then, just wait for their response. Then probably, they will understand. _________________
