The boy wonder, Phelps, is havin problems on huntin the 8 gold medals, hehe. A point to him for being an ambitious young athlete.
well..his aim was maybe a bit too high this time. but he's only 19 so he has probably at least 2 more olympics to look forward too ^^
not a big fan of him but it would be a great accomplishment if he ever succeded ^^

The rules HAVE to be followed or else . . . guess what (and I'm just employing an example within the vein of our faire discussion here)? Team Japan fans would be doing if the American swimmer used a dolphin kick during the breaststroke? Yeah, they'd call "foul!" too. But, IOC has been known to take back medals -- and re-reward the gold to second place or whoever -- once improprieties are discovered (remember that ice-skating dance fiasco involving the Russians and the U.S. a few Olympics back?). If I were an athlete I'd keep this in mind before I start seeing gold, silver, or bronze, so's to not need to look over my shoulder the rest of my life. See how criminal cheating is?
well...in all fairness - he hasnt changed his technique since the world championships - and this was what? last year or something? he even says that in the 15 yrs of swimming he has never been cautioned or sanctioned for this?
so with all of that + the world championships + the qualifications and then the olympics itself - no one has EVER brought up this issue about the 'dolphin kick' until the american swim team this yr?
even the american coach has said there is nothing to it.

Yes! I hope they show it on the tube as well... Great action.
Bravo channel's been showing some decent coverage of table tennis. Overnight airings, at least here in Hawaii, which is good because I'm home. I dunno if it's due to the 'lympic rules, but, the play ain't as fast as I remember seeing previously.
got 18 medals thus far (tied in first place for total medal count w/China). It's DAY 4!

A little history: the Japanese dominated men's olympic gymnastics in the 60's and 70's... They won five straight men's gymnastic gold medals: 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972, and 1976... And a number of the moves (e.g., the Tsukahara) were developed by them...
Great to see them on top again...
Didn't know that, thanks for the history update.
Yeah, I didn't get a chance to watch the Olympics last night, but I read on ESPN that the USA men's and the Japanese men's team performances were both stellar. Damn, I need Tivo.

EDIT:
1. Wow, Tokuno Ryoko looks hot in that blue volleyball suit.
2. A dolphin kick is used underwater (as opposed to on the surface), kicking up and down with your legs and feet together, akin to the tail motion propulsion of a dolphin. Hence, the name.

Yes, Japan has always been good. But, I heard that the Soviet Union's domination of gymnastics prevented Japan from getting the gold (which they were able to do before the Sov's anyway).
If this is the case, at least THIS Japan's men's gymnastic team can thank Ronald Reagan, in part, for their gold in this XXVIII 'lympics.

What does Reagan have to do with Japan winning again in gymnastics?
Is that what Ronnie was doing on those trips over to Japan after his term ended? He was coaching?
Japanese gymnasts beat the Soviet Gymnasts when the Soviets were the Soviets.
Over the last few Olympics the Russians have dominated. Because they were really really good.
It looks like the Japanese are coming back.
By the way... the improvement in American gymnastics? A lot of it is attributed to the fact that a lot of Japanese gymnasts and coaches came to the U.S. and opened schools here.

USA won over Greece in basket, was quite close, the US boys are still shooting very bad from the distance..
BUT they're BACK, like The Man said. And close score in front of the home team is a good thing. See? All you gotta do is topple over NBA ego . . . and they'll come back.

Right, but the Soviets were their stiffest competition, no? So, no more Soviets (which Reagan helped greatly to do, we must admit; you COULD say Reagan's a coach; coach of WHOOPIN' SOVIET BUTT!) = no more stiff competition for gymn', leaving roads of gold for the Japanese. I mean, the Japanese are SO good that a lot of . . .

. . . oh, you said it already.
I think we'd've heard another anthem at the other day's gymnastic podium if still had Soviet might in 'lympics. Nyet?
It's actually great to see the J-men's gymnasts get the gold (thought I still think that judge who gave "last minute information" to our U.S. gymnasts should be investigated; we'll see; and we'll see if he acts up for the individual competition. I swear, the guy's taking a risk, being that these athletes have the strength to . . . well, I better not say). I bet Japan's just eating that all up all these gold wins. Would be great to see these muscular studs (there's no denying that despite the fact that I like women, OK?) take the spotlight of some o' these spaghetti armed idols instead. These Olympians certainly deserve the attention. You can bet they'll be featured at the end of year Kohaku (just for fun, maybe they can armwrestle some of these J-poppers on TV; what a hoot).

Amen. WTF is it with the women here going ga-ga over all these skinny Jpop men? The nihonjin male actors... I don't think I've seen a single one that had a chest size over 40" (101.6 cm). Dudes couldn't bench press a box of Twinkies.
Of course, those nihonjin gymnasts are all about as short as Michael J. Fox.

I was so surprised when i was on the internet yesterday that I read that Japan's me gymnastics took the gold!
I wish I had watched that event happen.
GO JaPAn!
And all this political stuff about Ronald Reagan and the Olympics has just got to stop, because people always have to blame someone for someone's loss. Ronald Reagan is dead so leave him be.
And Japan's Men team because this Olympics they were the best and they trained hard to get there, and they have my applause!
Not everytime can one team win all the time!
well that's my input.
Congratulations Japan and win some more,
Good-Luck USA Team _________________

And that is just hating on someone
Hating on J-Pop males is just plain stupid, are mad because they look better than you.
I think Japanese men and women are very beautiful and have some of the most magnificent faces than any other nations stars.
Plus stars in Hollywood use all that botox and shit. Japan is natural beauty.
And I see for myself that in my last entree that I have misspelled and left out some words, but that's okay ya'll know what I'm talking about. _________________
