"Number 1" started last night, Saturday the 19th on KTSF... and I think it's gonna be a lot of fun.

It's a comedy, cut up into three parts (last night's video timed out at about 25 minutes) about a truck driver, in desperate need of money, who takes a job as a Club Host. A paid Gigolo.

I don't know if there really are clubs like this in Japan, or if it's a comedy based on the gender switch. But so far, it seems funny.

The show stars:

Yosuke Kubozuka as the young truck driver who's been recruited as a Club Host.

Santamaria Yuskuke as his mentor. The #2 host at the club.

Aya Okamoto as the sweet young thing. A med student who is an old friend of one of the other hosts.

Makiko Esumi as the dowdy, depressed, middle aged housewife who comes to the club because her husband doesn't care about her.

Masahiro Nishimura as the assistant manager.

And sometime later, there will be an appearance by Takashi Sorimachi.

If this were an American product I'd guess it was a movie made for TV, or a pilot for a series.

Either way, it's nice to see something on KTSF with English Subs that isn't aimed at 9 year olds.

It won't last long, but I'm gonna enjoy it while it's here.

Geezer, Doramafan113, conco, ap,

I agree that at least "Number One" was funny and it was an adult type comedy. It was enjoyable and I'll be watching over the next two weeks.

Hon Ikegami Sho is not bad so I wouldn't mind seeing part four.

What's with Wakaba? I keep finding myself changing the channel every few minutes. I can't find a theme here other than what happened a few years ago during the Kobe earthquake. Maybe I need to give it a chance, but a year of this???

g.f.

"Number one" wasn't that bad, I just finished watching it (recorded it on VHS). It looks to have potential, I as well look forward to the next few weeks.

As for Wakaba, I think it will get better as she eventualy heads to Kobe. I sometimes find myself searching the jdorama forums or checking email while the show is on, its a little slow for me right now and im having a little trouble liking the main character Wakaba. I guess im still hooked on Eri from Churasan. she was so cool. Mr Green

Hey, my VCR started 30min early last night, and I think missed the last half of Yoshitsune (the reason I say i think I missed it, was because I havent actually tried watching it yet, as i just now finished watching Number one). However im pretty sure my tape ran out 30min to early. I really was looking forward to watching some Yoshitsune. Sucks that I already missed some of episode 2. Shameful Cry

I know that eltinator is recording and distributing it (atleast I think so). eltinator, hows it going with that, is there a way you could hook me up? Puppy Dog Eyes

edit: yup just confirmed that my episode of yoshitsune didn't record correctly. Managed to record 10min before the VHS tape ran out. Shameful Cry

Guh, I had the same problem down here in SoCal: the show ran long and I missed a portion during recording. God Dammit

The first episode and I'm already screwed. Grumble

Did anyone actually manage to get a full copy of episode 2 of Yoshitsune that aired this past Saturday??
I was out (in vegas) so i had set my dvd recorder to record at 9:25 and end at 10:35. bleh
But they were airing some Chinese new year's thing earlier in the night, so i'm guessing that ran more than it was supposed to.
Eltinator has the same problem. Bang Head
I am taking over for Eltinator (recording from KTSF, converting to xvid, and distro via d-addicts). Eltinator has decided to do the HD version, he'll be transcribing the subs from the KTSF broadcast and hardsubbing w/the HD version.
If anyone has it, please contact me. Smile PM, email, MSN...watever, just contact me. Mr Green

PS: @bmwracer. Eltinator sent me his first 2 dvd-rams of parts 1 and 2 of Episode 1. so if you want a copy, i can shoot one your way. (after i burn them onto dvd-r). Dancing

Number One is pretty funny. I hadn't checked KTSF's website so it was kind of a surprise that it was on after the Chinese New Year's Parade. Just watching Yosuke's reactions to everything coming his way is funny.

Poor Wakaba...she wants to get to Kobe so badly and everyone seems to be against her.

I'm just waiting for Yoshitsune to get to Ueto Aya's parts... Dancing . It's actually pretty interesting, since my Japanese history teacher spent a lot of time on the Taira/Minamoto conflict. He also made some comparisons to Robin Hood later on....

How many of you are in the North Bay?

Those were the exact same times I used, so we are all in the same boat. Bang Head Why do they do that?? It makes the online guides pretty useless.

I've found that since I started watching KTSF that it has wildly varying start and end times. When Shinsengumi was still on, they'd go for a dozen episodes without showing upcoming scenes, then suddenly they'd have enough time to start showing them again.

If I'm going out somewhere, I usually set it to at least fifteen to twenty minutes before the program is supposed to start. A bit wasteful, but it works.

i dont think setting it for an extra 20 minutes beforehand for Yoshitsune episode 2 (this past saturday) would've worked. Puppy Dog Eyes Because I would've missed more of the actual episode, and gotten more of Wakaba. bleh
I got atleast half of Wakaba, and maybe less than half of Yoshitsune. Shameful Cry

Darn, if only I recorded the trivia show after Yoshitsune, we'd be good to go. It seems our only hope is to wait for the airing in Southern California in a couple of weeks. Maybe they should record the entire night, just to be safe. Big Grin

Amrayu

I mailed Elton a copy of episode 2 yesterday. Odds are, he'll have it in this afternoon's (Thurdsay's) mail.

Doh! That sucks. I record most of the Japanese programming, but I do it on old fashioned VHS...and I don't have the ability to copy it onto anything Sweat. I wish I could help! Hopefully someone will have gotten it.

Now, if BMWracer sees the offer that I made him, then we will have a chance. hehe
You hear that BMWracer?? Record episode 2 in its entirety, and I'll hook you up with Episode 1 (parts 1 and 2). rofl
What a great deal! Victory! Peace!

Considering all my experience with KTSF, I've become a belt and suspenders kind of guy.

I couldn't find a thread for this, so I figured the KTSF folk would be the best people to ask.

Do we get Imagin Asian TV on comcast in the East Bay?

I read a piece about the network this morning in the Chron, went to their web site and discovered that it will be carried by Comcast in San Francisco Mondays through Fridays 6pm to Midnight, and 10am to Midnight on the weekends.

But I'm darned if I can find it, here in the East Bay.

The reviewer in the Chron said it was gonna be on cable 28, and their web site says cable 33. But so far, Yahoo TV listings doesn't seem to know anything about it.

I know. They'll be focusing on Asian American Originals... but young TV networks need to fill their air, and I figure the people putting this thing together might consider airing dramas.

It actually wouldn't be a bad idea to contact them about this. But, what kind of cable service (Minimum package? Platinum package?) would we need in order to have the channel available?
