haven't read the book, but i heard it is good and very very long. I saw the movie, i enjoyed the movie, probably only a very small part of the book, but not sure how closely it followed the novel.

Just finished 47 Ronin and Musashi. Then I watched Chushingura and was disappointed by the artistic license taken. I've watched 13 episodes of Musashi NHK and I don't even recognize the characters or plot.

I coulda told you that... They interleaved Musashi's story with the rise of the Yagyu family and the Tokugawa shogunate... Smile

I'm actually reading two other books in addition to the following (information I'm sharing as I find myself absorbing the material unusually well considering that I'm reading selections during the commercial breaks -- with "mute" on, of course -- of the NCAA tourney going on now):

The Rise of Modern Mythology: 1680-1860, Professor Burton Feldman and Robert D. Richardson, Jr., eds.

Great tome on myth theory.

My sister has that.

I'm also reading "The Big Fat Kill" by Frank Miller. It's a graphic novel from the Sin City universe. I think it's one of the stories that made it into the movie. Damn...it looks cool too.
