Hottest, coolest, favorite actress today? Miki Nakatani. Ask me next week it could be either Ryoko Yonekura, Matsu Takako, Nanaka Matsushima, Kimura Yoshino, or Takako Tokiwa. But right now, it's Nakatani.

bmwracer After watching "Married at 20", and "Plastic Beauty" and even "Gun Crazy", Ryoko was my absolute favorite. As anyone who looks at the pictures you've put up can see... the girl is gorgeous. And holy moley! She can do comedy too! But after 28 weeks of watching her play the saddest, dullest, dumbest, most depressing character in Japanese film history (Otsu in "Musashi") I have to admit... I strayed. Of course, that doesn't mean I haven't taped every episode of "Musashi". Otsu may be dull and depressing, but Ryoko is Ryoko.

arashinokoto I haven't seen "Renai Hensachi" yet, but with that kind of endorsement I'll be on the lookout. So far, I've only seen Ms. Nakatani in: "R_17" "Keizoku" the movie "Beautiful Dreamer" -- I've arranged to get the series later this month. A few episodes of the "Father" series" "Christmas in Summer" (Some translate it as "Midsummer Christmas") Of course, the "Ring" movies. And "Chaos" She's a pip. I wouldn't say the character of Otsu is dumb... More like naive... I think this this is probably the most heavily dramatic role she's ever done... Like I said on one of the threads (this one?): She can do it all... Big Grin

bmwracer I won't argue the point since it might sound like I was trying to poor mouth Ryoko... and I would never do that. I just don't like the character. Oddest thing though... I got excited about the series when I found out Ryoko was gonna be in it. Then I watched it and discovered the guy who might be my favorite Japanese actor. The guy who plays Matahachi, Tsutsumi Shinichi. Ryoko's prettier, but this guy steals the show every time he's on screen.

I understand your point. If you've ever read the book, you'd notice that this series has tried to make Otsu more developed, and somewhat more tragic, as opposed to the book, which has her more traditionally passive...

Earlier on, they made Matahachi play the fool, but he seems to be rounding out as the series progresses, especially in the last couple of episodes...
