I just finished watching "Ai Wa Douda" ("What About Love") --1992-- TBS -- and boy were those 11 episodes well spent.
One of those shows where I really wish they'd done a second season.
The show stars Ken Ogata, Misa Shimizu, Miho Tsumiki, and a very young Masaharu Fukuyama. (The data base says that Takako Tokiwa is in it, but really she's just an extra. She's in the background as an OL in the scenes that show Ogata at work. She speaks maybe 5 words in total through the series.)
This is a sweet, domestic, comedy/drama with something of a twist.
It's Ogata as father to three grown and almost grown girls. He's old fashioned, traditional, serious, stern, and forbidding... at home.
While at work and in his life outside the home we get a completely different picture of this guy. THis is not a TV perfect father. But it is a flawed, human man, doing his best to take care of his girls.
I just loved it.
And as a wonderful extra... I thought I recognised the second daughter, Miho Tsumiki. And when I looked her up I discovered that she and Misa Shimizu starred in one of my all time favorite movies: The 2002 produciton of "The Sea is Watching"
I think it's cool that these two amazingly talented and beautiful ladies played young sisters in a sweet 1992 TV series, and then got together again ten years later to play two fairly hardened hookers in the last movie Akira Kurosawa ever wrote. _________________

yo
i am not very big on soap operas in america, but since i have been learning japanese, i have somehow become attracted to japanese dramas.
today, i have finished watching the first season of densha otoko..... i think that was the whole first season, but hopefully i will see the other season of it.
i was in awe as i watched the entire series day by day, and it "nearly" brought me to tears. it was the most interesting show that ive ever seen in my entire life. it also made me think alot about how my life is now, and where i want to be.... enough of the emotion, i give the show a 20 out of 10. _________________
still watching Ganbatte Ikimasshoi, I got done with episode 5, slow to finish that series, it's actually quite good, but i have so many other j-dramas that are more exciting and i am more focused on. eventually i will finish off Ikimasshoi.
Densha Otoko finished downloading, so starting that one...almost can't fit anything else on my computer
i have the entire series of Densha Otoko. including the special episode and some inteview clips of some of the cast members, it was about....i think a little over 5 1/2 gigabytes of space, will fit onto 2 dvds.

Trying to find the courage to watch the last episode of manatsu no Merry Christmas. I'm not a big fan of brother and sister falling in love.
After this, I'm thinking of watching Pride or desha otoko. I'm not sure which one I should watch first. Maybe desha...
I'm working through both of those myself. Densha is funnier than Pride, but Pride is surprisingly good for being focused on a hockey team (but then again it IS a Kimura drama, and we all know he's the king). If you want something a bit more light heart-hearted go for Densha. Pride's a teeny bit more serious and a whole lot more masculine (Densha cries so much!), but still very enjoyable and it's funny as well.
