You want heavy drama, check out Nyokei Kazoku... It's interesting and frustrating at the same time. Grumble

From Japan Times:

Match point for women on top of the game

By MARK SCHREIBER

Weekly Playboy (Feb. 14)
In its original meaning, kemonomichi is a trail (michi) made by deer, boar and other animals (kemono) in the wild. The expression became popular as a metaphor for the human underworld through Matsumoto Seicho's 1962 novel "Kemonomichi (Animal Path)" and the subsequent film (1965) and TV (1982) dramatizations, about people whose ambition drives them to descend to the level of beasts.

Recently, "Kemonomichi" was reincarnated each Thursday night as a serial on the TV Asahi network. In the latest version, 30-year-old female lead Ryoko Yonekura appears as Tamiko Narusawa, a scheming vixen who'll stop at nothing -- even the murder of her own husband -- to become the mistress of an influential wheeler-dealer.

Yonekura's bath scene in one early episode, Weekly Playboy relates tongue-in-cheek, was so revealing that some male viewers complained of hanaji-buu (nosebleeds).

While the story's characters' transgressions may be somewhat exaggerated, this male-orientated magazine suggests the TV drama represents a fairly faithful reflection of certain women in real life.

"It may not be as glamorous as in the TV drama, but there's no shortage of women who landed jobs as secretaries to Diet members, or who own shops, or who are employed at companies of Diet members' supporters -- through their hold on men," says political commentator Harumi Arima.

The old man, Kitou, makes my skin crawl. He's like a sex fiend.

Is anyone translating Kemonomichi to English?

From the pics of the guy, I can understand.

I guess that's why he got torched, ne?

Not that I know of.

I am hopeful, now that I've seen Nyokei Kazoku with English subs. Thumbsup

The old man got torched? Hmm, so far he's been busy taking people who stand in his way down. He's almost untouchable.

I haven't watched episode 7 yet! Wonder what exactly Sato Koichi's Kotaki is up to. I thought he looked pretty pleased with himself when Kitou summoned him. Is it some grudge that makes him want to wreck vengeance?

Nah not at all. I'm looking forward to his death! hehe But he's not as loathsome as Uehara Misa's character. She is downright irritating.

Can't wait to find out what will happen in Ep8. It's getting more interesting because everyone seems to have his/her own agenda.

Interesting that you should say that: have you seen Nyokei Kazoku?

Every despicable person in that show has their own agenda as well... And maybe even Ryoko-chan. Sweat

No I haven't seen Nyokei Kazoku. Did you enjoy it???

*possible spoilers*

In Kemonomichi, Ryoko seems purely driven by her desire to make her mark in the jewellery world, both as a designer and a businesswoman. Toru Nakamura who initially wanted to nab Ryoko has now set his eyes on something bigger - her backer, Kitou Kotaro. Sato Koichi's motive still isn't clear. At first it seemed that he craved power, but it appears that it might not be the case. Is he really concerned about Ryoko's predicament or is she merely his tool? That isn't apparent too. Uehara Misa, who was honing her craft with Ryoko earlier in the show and acquainted with the deceased husband, seems to exhibit an unusually strong desire to see Ryoko arrested for her husband's death. And Ryoko's secretary actually works for Sato Koichi and has been keeping tabs of all her movements.
