Hi everyone,

April 15th will mark the 10 year anniversary of the airing of the first episode of Long Vacation. A Japanese drama that has touched many people's hearts then and continues to touch the hearts of many fans today.

I would like to do a special podcast for J!-ENT Radio (The J!) dedicated to the tenth anniversary of Long Vacation and I was hoping you can be part of it.

What I ask is:

* Can you answer the following question and e-mail me your answer by e-mail (or an MP3 of you talking - Please keep it to 5 minutes or under) describing your feeling of the drama when you first watched it and why you think it continues to rank up in the top 5 of Japanese dramas by many fans.

* Was there a certain part or anything about the drama that you remember, that will always stay in your mind.

* And anything you want to add in respect to the 10th anniversary of this drama.

That's pretty much it. You can e-mail me your answers at [email protected], please have the subject as Long Vacation - 10 year anniversary.

Deadline is on April 14th.

Thank you,

Dennis A. Amith [kndy]

Hi everyone,

I just want to thank those of you who submitted your e-mail on why you enjoyed LV all these years. I know some of you may be wondering why a tribute episode to the 10th anniversary to this drama and I think that for trendy dramas, "Long Vacation" back in 1996 to now, has been a catalyst in introducing Japanese dramas to people outside of Japan.

It received high ratings, started an interesting fad, caused people to travel to Japan just to find that apartment and it's still one of the few dramas that I receive e-mail from fans who just watched it and fell in love with it and people who are still seeking the CD, the sheet music, the soundtrack box set. It's also one of the few dramas I have met with businesses who wanted to seek the licenses for distribution outside of Japan.

Also, when it first aired, it was an interesting situation because on most of the existing channels that showed Japanese dramas in the US, instead of watching it many months or over a year later, it was broadcasted on these channels a few days after it was shown in Japan (in straight Japanese).

Anyway, it's weird that for it has been ten years later since many of us first watched it and how, we would go crazy over it on the old DORAMA ML.

Although I have done an episode for it before, with hardly any hoopla for it, I figured that I show my respects and do a podcast on the J!.

Thanks again for those who contributed.

Sincerely,

kndy

What you said is so true....I remember watching it on television here in Southern California back in '96 and I was so entertained and impressed I think, being one of the first doramas I had ever seen, it generated a lifelong enthusiasm for the genre. I still consider it one of my absolute favorite shows, 10 years later.

I know that video recording of the show is floating around somewhere after being lent out multiple times...this was long before expedient dissemination of data on the Internet!
