Realistically you have three options when trying to contact the providers of Japanese TV for Saturday Night on KTSF.

1) [email protected] This will contact the folks at KTSF in S.F. and they will normally respond. But what they'll say is... we don't have anything to do with the Japanese shows on the weekend. We're just renting them space. Contact the guys who provide the shows.

They will, on occastion, forward fans email. But not always.

2) According to their web page, the email address for the guys who provide the shows for Saturday nights is: [email protected]
But I've never gotten a response from them.

3) There is a phone number for the company in the U.S. that provides the programming. If you'd like to call to complain the number is:

650-344-3006

I believe that's the area code for San Mateo Ca

Well that was easy.

I just called Fuji at 1-650-344-3006.

Talked to a nice Japanese lady who said that yes, they are getting a lot of emails and phone calls complaining about the lack of subtitles.

She said the reason they are showing it is because Ichiro is in one of the episodes and Japanese Americans really wanted to see him act.

Problem... it's a Fuji show, so they couldn't sub it.

It will last 6 weeks, and then they move to a 2 week special about sushi in Japan (with subs) and then onto a series of detective stories (with subs)

My suggestion:

Please call that number!

Don't yell, don't be rude, but let the folks who provide our shows know that we (I) depend on the subtitles!

They make their decisions based on the responses they get.

Oooooh! I wonder if that's gonna be the "Sushi! Hall Of Fame" special that ran on KIKU back in the late '90s. I think I have that on disk around here somewhere... I would give my left arm to see KTSF run the "Sushi! Donburi! Ramen!" series, though. The few episodes that I had a chance to view were such a hoot!

And I plan on calling Fuji-TV as soon as I can get to a phone. Although Comcast decided to blank out on me this weekend, I'm still annoyed that a Saturday night show was allowed to run without subs. I'm a creature of habit!

I know, it's a silly question, but it's the sort of thing that drives me nuts.

Yeah, I was disappointed too that Wakaba's mom returned home and Kinoshita disappeared. I was kidding earlier when I said I thought the character would turn out to be Wakaba's dad with amnesia. I did think though that the story was going to show them develop a romance, and we'd see Wakaba's mom finally finding happiness again, and not smiling through the pain as she always does. But I guess if Wakaba, her brother Hikaru, and her mom all end up back in Kobe, that would sort of end the series, except for Wakaba being able to fulfill her dream of building the house of greenery her father designed. Well, maybe Kinoshita will show up in Miyazaki and start courting Wakaba's mom....THEN they get married and move to Kobe?

Just to clear up something I mentioned a while ago.

On Sunday Night's, after Nyokei Kazoku (Matriarchal Family), KTSF is running something that the Yahoo TV listings is calling, "Co Co Rico's Miracle Type."

I've seen three (two and a half) of these shows now, and they're fun.

It seems to be a series of half hour romantic comedies featuring a rep company of players appearing in different roles every week. Maki Saki and Manami Konishi are two of the leading ladies.

Sort of reminds me of the old "Love American Style" without the "wackiness".

The shows start off with a group shot of all the actors on a sage, and each week that week's "star" introduces the show you're about to see.

The shows aren't subbed... but the plots are pretty basic and easy to understand.

If anyone has anymore info about this show, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

If not... heck, this is just to let people know that it's there, because I haven't seen anyone else mention it.

So, did anyone else get fooled by the 15-minute episode of Wakaba? At first I thought KTSF had goofed again, then later saw that they were just creating time to show the Cherry Blossom Festival parade excerpts. I don't remember them doing that before. That is, they used to cut into one of the other programs during Saturday evening - never the sacred asadora!

And on this thread, can we also talk about the NHK news? Did you notice the disgraced architect Aneha is now completely bald - that is, now that he has been arrested? I had suspected earlier that he was wearing a hairpiece.

BTW, did everyone know that the NHK news has a SAP channel (second audio program) with an English translation voiceover? I'm been watching it that way for at least a couple of years. Occasionally they forget to turn it on, though.

Same reaction. BUT! I got so excited to catch a half second glimpse of little me in the parade, I didn't mind waiting another week before we know if Wakaba will leave her landscaping company after lecturing Mr. Tetsu for thinking of doing the same.

But going back to Wakaba: if the show had originaly 151 15-minute episodes and they're showing us 2 shows a week, we should be down to an even number now, so last night's short show shouldn't extend the series by another week. (Am I making any sense?)

It works in Japan, but it doesn't always get carried into the US broadcasts. Every time I see the "Bilingual" (in Japanese) sign in the upper right, I try the audio on my TV or receiver, and I've never detected an actual second audio program on KTSF's broadcast over cable. There was one broadcast I saw where they made a mistake and played the English instead of the Japanese, but that was just their error.

Do you watch your cable tv through a cable box? Or do you have it connected directly to your ("cable-ready" and SAP-enabled) TV?

If you use the cable box, then that is probably why you don't get the SAP. Believe or not, here in the Bay Area where there would be plenty of customers using SAP (there are a lot of channels that have a SAP in Spanish, for example), your stupid cable company does not carry the signal thru their box. I found this out one time when I house-sat for some friends. They had this really nice house, big screen TV, cable box with a couple hundred channels, cable box audio connected to their stereo Hi-Fi, and when it came time to watch the NHK news on KTSF....the SAP wasn't there! Poor me! I had to suffer through two weeks of trying to decipher the J-news with my limited Nihongo ability! I did think of completely rewiring their TV set-up and just watching the basic cable...but I wasn't THAT desperate for J-news!

BTW, I don't pay attention to the "Bilingual" tag on the video itself, it's often not true, as you said. Instead, when there is a SAP, my TV indicates it next to the channel number, so I bring up the audio menu and turn it on (the menu choices are "Stereo" "Mono" "SAP"). However, for years my TV indicated a SAP for NHK news and it still wasn't there. Then one day a couple of years ago, I tried it again for the 1000th time and there it was!!!! Been enjoying it ever since - barring occasional house-sitting duties, or KTSF forgetting to turn it on until later in the program, or sometimes NHK just doesn't have it - I've noticed the English readers sometimes get time off during Golden Week or Oshogatsu, and at times when KTSF is showing the later news show in that slot and not the "NHK News7," it is often not there. BTW, there used to be a "NHK News10" but I noticed it was recently changed to "News9". I also noticed they'll show the later news show if there was some breaking news happening at the time (like the other day, Livedoor's Horie was being released from jail right at 9pm in Japan).
