I highly recommend KoreEda Hirokazu's "Wonderful Life" movie (a.k.a. After Life). It's a little old, but it's one of my favourite movies.
It's about a week in a place between death and eternity. This place is a building where dead people stay for a week and the employees make a short movie about the happiest memory of the dead people's life. This memory will be the only memory dead people keep with each of them into the eternity . I wonder if death is like that. Mmm... DEATH.
Hey! The picture above shows a character created by the famous japanese artist Masakatsu Iwamoto a.k.a. Mr. Isn't it!

I posted this in the Maki and Koyuki threads because they both star in the film but I enjoyed watching it so much I thought I'd bring it to the attention of a wider audience....it's a great film and it shows the basic desires and resilence of the human condition in the face of life's struggles....
a very heartwarming affair....
Always San chome no Yuhi
Wow, this seems really interesting! Thanks for sharing...gotta watch this! _________________

My wife and I just finished watching Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu. Without giving the plot away, it is a very thought-provoking movie. You also have to suspend reality to get through it, but all in all, I enjoyed it. I can see parts of myself in the main character, Takumi.
Oh, I think the composer also did the soundtrack for Sekai de Chuushin de.
*Addendum: It seems Jennifer Garner will be cast in the American remake of this film. I certainly hope it is not butchered.
Ohno? really? drats, another remake...why can't they just show the original with subs?!?! (cus probably hollywood audiences are too lazy to read...)
I've yet to see this movie though I just finished the series and totally loved the story...I''m not sure if a US remake will be effective cus the themes and concepts in the story are more believable in an Asian setting...
I mean, I heard Lake House was ok, but they totally failed to capture the essence of the Korean original..and Sandra Bullock apparently wasn't any match to the innocence and naivite of Jeon Ji Hyun's performance in Il Mare.. _________________

Yeah I've been wanting to watch that. It's by the same guy who made "Nobody Knows" so it has to be good.

I gotta watch the 1st one. I love Mika Nakashima. I don't know about doing a 2nd one though. Most of the time, they are crappy. Especially if the main cast from the 1st one is not in it.
Still... Yui Ichikawa + too many bed scenes sounds ok to me. _________________

Cool.
If they have a nice plot it might work, but I'm scared of everything with a "2" in it. Most of the time, you have the same basic plot as the 1st one, but in a different setup. It's fun as is, but if you saw the 1st one, you just know how's it going to end after a few minutes. Kind of like Gokusen 2 to name one...
I'll try to get nana and watch it. _________________

Howdy,
This is perhaps the only Japanese film for which I'll say this, but I do recommend watching Howl's Moving Castle in the English language dub.
The reason for this is that the English voice recordings are of extremely high quality, recorded at Skywalker Ranch (as in George Lucas' studios), by the legendary Jean Simmons and Lauren Bacall. The irrepressible Billy Crystal and Christian Bale round out the American voice talent.
In particular, Billy Crystal stole the show. He was unbelievably funny.
FYI, that's KimuTaku's voice as Haru (Howl) in the Japanese version.
