Did anyone else find Pride kind of disappointing? Maybe I was expecting too much. It seems standard at best. After watching Good Luck!! last year I was hoping for something at least as good I guess. The use of Queen for the themesong is extremely cool though.

By far the best drama of the season so far is "Boku to Kanojo to Kanojo no Ikiru Michi". I've seen 2 episodes now. Kusanagi Tsuyoshi's acting is amazing. He plays a very cold father but it looks like Koyuki's English teacher character is getting through to him. I am also impressed by the acting of the girl who plays his child.

I pretty much agree. I personally enjoyed the first episode of Pride more than Good Luck though. I thought Good Luck was kinda boring and I only really enjoyed the final couple episodes.

But I really like Takeuchi Yuko's character in Pride, or maybe I just like Takeuchi Yuko...haha Anyway, I don't think I'll come to any conclusions until I see more. That Queen theme song is definitely great...they really hit the nail on that one!

Boku to Kanojo is really good...I enjoyed last night's episode a lot!

The Etsumi Makiko x Yamashita Tomohisa drama Koi wa Totsuzen Arashi no Youni (?) starts today. Am I the only one that finds this casting a little disturing? I'm not a fan of either of the leads so I might just skip this one.

i think u are referring to 'Honto ni Atta Kowai Hanashi'.. it's the same one featured in the 1st few pages.. starring Goro..

so many dramas to watch.. i've only watched 'PRIDE' personally.. and i love it actually.. Bleah just got 'Sore wa, Totsuzen, Arashi no you ni'.. it's a weird combi bet. Esumi Makiko and Yamapi.. but i think i'll try to watch this one too.. so 'Boku to Kanojo to Kanojo no Ikiru Michi' is good? ok, i'll find time to watch that one too.. *faint* i still got 'Fireboys' and 'Shinsengumi' left unwatched.. Google 'Kanojo ga Shinjatta' and 'Suna no Utsuwa' coming up too~~ how i wish i got more time and more pairs of eyes.. Beaten

nobody knows about 'Kinou no Tomo wa Kyou no Teki'? i don't know the main cast except for Toma Ikuta... Sweat

Besides saying I agree completely with eien Bussan about Pride (her character is the best!!), I just wanted to say I saw Ueto Aya's "ace wo nerae!" today. It was one of those cheesy seishun dramas. But Ueto Aya is amazingly beautiful, also as has been proven in movies such as Azumi, she's a great actor. The result is something I thought I was gonna laugh at but turned out pretty good. Also even though this is TV Asahi, Kyodo Television is listed in the credits and they are a name in dramas that I trust.

IMO, Good Luck!! is good but Pride is even better. Takuya's acting is superb but the way he improvised it for Pride, his performance is excellent. Kimura kun fits the role as 'Halu Satonaka' perfectly which portrays masculinity & arrogance. A very 'GUY' image here!

Did anyone else see Okusama Wa Majo or Kanojo Ga Shinjatta?

I thought Okusama Wa Majo was lighthearted and cute! Yonekura Ryoko makes a very pretty witch~ Harada Taizo surprisingly matched as "Darling" as well. I thought that it makes a pretty good tribute to the original Bewitched series. I kinda wish they casted someone else as the female boss though...maybe someone that can act??! lol

I'm totally hooked on Kanojo Ga Shijatta! It was really erotic and puzzling in a good way. I loved how Kimura Yoshino and Nagase Tomoya interacted with each other, it was really sexy and refreshing...not something you see a lot in Japanese dramas. Most of all, I was surprised how Kimura Yoshino pulled off being all wild and seductive so well! She had already mastered the "good girl" roles so this may be the perfect boost for her career. I was also drawn to this drama by its beautiful scenery and great music.

I have a feeling that Kanojo may not do too well in the ratings department because it's really unique and may take an acquired taste, but hopefully it will keep getting better! Might be interesting to keep tally of how many actresses Nagase makes out with just in this whole series...lol Sounds like the drama's quite tame compared to the manga that it's based on, though.

I managed to catch the first episode of Pride. Being that I am Canadian, I was excited that they decided to do a story about hockey. However, the focus of the drama is not really on hockey (at least, not the 1st episode) but on love and loss.

You can tell that Kimura Takuya's character (Halu or Haru) will go through a series of character developments. Saw on the news today that PRIDE scored 28.6% of the viewership on Japan for the first episode. Anything over 15% viewership is considered extremely good, so 28.6% is not bad. However, Kimura Takuya's drama usually scores around 30% to 31% for the first episodes.

Pride is ok, I guess. Entertaining to watch. Some parts are funny, but I liked Good Luck more.

Personally, I think the best drama that shows most promise this season is Kusanagi's "Boku to Kanojo". The acting by ALL the characters are great... at least for the first 2 episodes. I think the kid hams it up a bit in the 2nd episode, but it doesn't really affect the story. Kudos for all the actors!! This is the drama to watch this season! Very thought provoking and entertaining!

gerwalker - I agree with you. I am also Canadian and I was looking forward to the whole hockey thing. But really there wasn't much hockey to be seen. I caught some of Mezamashi TV this morning though and Kimura said that there would be more action sequences tonight. We can only hope they do the real game justice. Meanwhile I am interested to see what happens with the weird romance.

Onto Okusama Wa Majo: I was pleasently surprised. This was light hearted and lots of fun. It's a perfect way relax on a Friday evening if you decide to stay in. Thi sis the kind of show I'd watch while eating pizza...if they had good pizza in Japan. Hahah.

Moving on to "suna no utsuwa". All I can say is amazing. I was really impressed here. While it's hard to imagine Nakai outside of his usual variety fare, he does very well as a musician in this one who has gone very far astray. What came over him in the first episode? Why did he do what he did? I like how the viewer and the police department know about the same amount. It's like we are trying to solve the mystery together. Can't wait for more from this one. Definitely one of the best of the current batch.

Nakai playing bad guy Hideo Motoura AKA Eiryo Waga? I guess I'd better approach the tape once it reaches my store. I read the book already, so I know what the characters are supposed to be about. Although I must say, the villain here does get to steal the show. Imanishi (the hero) is rather old, hence an old actor plays him.

Wow, I am watching all of those shows on TV right now! Big Grin Hm, I'll give my small opinion of them:

PRIDE - - - > Kimura plays the typical cool character that he has always played. Takeuchi Yuko isn't her typical character though, so it made me want to watch it more. The supporting cast is also phenomenal.

Okusama wa Majo - - - > Is adapted from "Bewitched" and lives up to the American classic with a cute comedy. The setting of Arisa's house is also AMAZING. I love interior design, so I noticed it. It's not meant to be a serious drama, it's pure comedy, and that's why I like it.

Ace wo Nerae - - - > At first I thought I wouldn't like a story about High Schoolers since I am not in the same age generation, but it is so funny. The main girl character's thoughts are funny, and you can feel the competition and dedication of the tennis teams. It's a generally well-made drama.

Boku to Kanojo to Kanojo no Ikiru Michi ("The Way We Live") - - - > ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLY SUPERBLY PERFECT. I often visit this drama's BBS board and everyone is absolutely crazy about watching the next episode. Kusanagi is at his best, and Koyuki also shows her supreme skills. Most people cry every episode, it seems. I admit that even I was pushed toward tears in the first two episodes. The relationship between parent and child, without love, is really heartbreaking. MUST-SEE

Honto ni Atta Kowai Hanashi ("True Horror Stories") - - - > This isn't a drama. This is one of the singers from SMAP with a group of about 5 kids sitting around discussing scary stories' realness factor and talking about ghosts. I watch it because I like ghost stories, etc. but it is not the least bit scary. It is probably meant for kids from the ages of 6 - 12. It's fun to watch though. If you live in Canada or America, you can equate it to "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" that aired on Nickolodean.

FIRE BOYS, Me-gumi no Daigo - - - > I watched this out of curiosity because I thought it might be funny or something. It isn't as good as I thought it would be actually. I am sure that it will seem action-packed and heartfelt to a lot of other people, but to me, it just seems surface entertaining.

I am also watching, "DOLLHOUSE," "Sore wa, Totsuzen, Arashi no you ni," "Kanojo ga Shinjatta (She's Dead)," and "Chotto Matte, Kamisama (Wait, God!)."

Minna-san!! Please, watch NHK's jidaigeki drama, Shinsengumi! too!!^o^ Its the best taiga drama I've ever seen! I'm usually bored watching taiga dramas, so its a pleasant surprise for me, that I enjoyed Shinsengumi very much!!^.^ Its very good! And it is not done in a heavy way....in fact, it is very light and have lots of funny scenes!! Its a story of a dedication being a samurai and also about friendship between the Shinsengumi members, coz most of them grow up together in a dojo named Shieikan. Also there's a love story in it. It has all!

Starring such kakkoi, kakkoi actors too!! Shingo Katori, Kouji Yamamoto(he's an absolute hunk!!), Tatsuya Fujiwara, Joe Odagiri, Taro Yamamoto, Yousuke Eguchi! And the gals are Yuka, Yasuko Sawaguchi, Tomoko Tabata, Rei Kikukawa and Kumiko Asou.

The first episode's rating is 26.3% in Kanto area, 29% in Kansai area(even higher than PRIDE?!?!!?), and 32.7% at one moment!

Boku to Kanojo to Kanojo no Ikiru Michi

Saw ep3 last night. This is emerging as my early favourite. It is absolutely phenomenal. Suna no utsuwa is also gunning for #1 but since I have only seen one episode of that I can't say yet which I like better. One thing I can say though, is that Pride doesn't touch either of them. In fact, I hate Haru more and more every time he opens his mouth.

Wow, yume, those were my exact thoughts about each drama! Big Grin

I haven't seen the 2nd episode for PRIDE yet but Boku To Kanojo was great again yesterday. Maybe Kimura Takuya can learn a thing or two from Kusanagi for a change~ Wink

I've cut Fireboys, Dollhouse and Sore Wa Totsuzen Arashi No Youni from my "to see" list, but I'm really looking forward to everything else!

I think the young supporting actresses are doing exceptionally well this season. Takeuchi Yuko in Pride, Kimura Yoshino in Kanojo Ga Shinjatta, Koyuki in Boku to Kanojo...way to go girls!! Applaud

Shinsengumi is fun too! Shingo's getting better and better in each episode and Yamamoto Kouji is hot! Naughty

Yup, "Boku to Kanoujo" is my run away favorite drama to watch this season.

Pride Ep 2 was horrible.

Haven't had time to watch other dramas; but I will watch them when I can. Ah~~ now I know why I came to Japan. Big Grin
