Quoting myself.. lol
But just finished;
- Nobuta wo Produce (fantastic..)
- Kekkon Dekinai Otoko (outstanding..)
Waterboys and Wedding Planner don't really interest me from what I've read of it and I'm probably looking into Kisarazu Cat's Eye.
Anymore jdrama like the ones I've listed? or any school drama?
By the way, I don't enjoy overly serious jdrama, I like it to be a mix of drama and comedy like everything I've listed.
Kisarazu Cat's Eye is very funny and amusing...i think you will enjoy it...I also recommend Ikebukuro West Gate Park (but it's not finished being subbed in English up to episode 7)......for school doramas...try Hana Yori Dango...it's funny and not too serious.
Tiger & Dragon is also very funny but a few ppl don't like it...because i think it requires an appreciation and knowledge of Japanese language and culture that not everybody shares...but i thought it was fabulous.
btw, Kisarazu Cat's Eye, Tiger & Dragon and Ikebukuro West Gate Park are all from the same writer...

Kekkon Dekinai Otoko. This is one of the few dorama (other than Taiga and Asadora series) made in the last four or five years that I would recommend . Almost all who have commented on this series have praised it. I thought what made this a good series was a solid script and excellent acting from the three leads (four, if you count Ken-chan). Hiroshi Abe has made a career out of playing quirky characters; what makes his performance in Kekkon his best imo is the subtleties he injects in his portrayal. His eyes, his posture, his gait, his silences all reveal so much of his character. Yui Natsukawa is also excellent as the antagonist. She reminds me a lot of Emi Wakui, and her smile is so communicative, able to convey so many different meanings depending on the situation. The third lead, Ryoko Kuninaka, makes her character--a stereotype in almost all dorama nowadays (cute, muddled, love-hungry)--into a genuinely real person; Kuninaka is able to do this because she can actually act which is more than you can say about most all of her contemporaries. This series is different (thank goodness!) than most of what is being produced these days in part because of the age and quite frankly the acting abilities of its leads: Abe is over forty, Natsukawa is in her late thirties; even Kuninaka, in her upper twenties, is older than the actresses who normally get her kind of role. Aside from the three leads and the solid script (including some pretty funny throwaway lines interspersed throughout), there were some little things that appealed to me. For example, when Abe and Natsukawa's characters went on the Shibamata tour to visit Tora-san's neighborhood; that was a very pleasant surprise for me (I am probably the only Tora-san fan on this site). Anyway, this was an entertaining series which dealt with some serious issues. . . issues which the older you get the more prominent they become.
