I've been watching Boku dake no Madonna (You're my only Madona) and this is gonna be sort of a wierd endorsement.
The show isn't very well written. It really really lacks depth. (Two or three rewrites by a real writer might have turned this into something worth taking note of.)
Tacky is the male lead and he's... eye candy for the little girls and nothing more.
Hitomi Shimatani is eye candy for the little boys, and she makes me think she might become a good actress with some effort.
But for me, the show is all about Kyoko Hasegawa.
I first saw Hasegawa in Itsumo futari de (with Matsu Takako) and I thought she was a total dud.
Then I saw her in Dragon Zakura and an interesting thing happened. Around episode 4 of that series a light seemed to go off for her, and she suddenly figured out how to be a TV star.
Hasegawa's turn at the Holly Golightly type character in "Boku dake no Madonna" is absolutely worth the price of admission.
She's gorgeous, she's interesting, and she's put this show on her shoulders and she's carrying it as if it was weightless.
I don't know if she'll ever find a drama that's really worth watching on it's own merits. But for now, this show is worth watching just to see the difference between a pop idol and a leading lady. _________________ Manga is to Literature

in japan they probably do...audrey hepburn is probably the most idolized western actress ever...her famous image is still circulated and even used in advertising in japan to this day.
i read an interesting paper about audrey hepburn and japan a while back.
edit: don't think george peppard has as big a following though.

BMW is just trying to remind me to keep my references in the 21st Century.
As to Audrey Hepburn though... isn't she getting famous all over again? They're using her image and some of her film clips to make her the new face of the GAP in their commercials. |
Oh, i see.....i haven't seen her in american advertising as of late but i don't watch very much network television. hmmm......hepburn is like immortal in japan....she's considered a model of idela feminine beauty.
Geezer i believe this is what you're talking about:
