In all of dramas and animes i have watched, i've mentioned that they say -san, -sama, -chan, -dono after the name they called. what are those four terms mean? what are those terms? |
They are used as a mark of respect. -san is probably the most common, and can be used in most situations. -chan is usually used when addressing younger females, or younger females addressing each other. Sama is similar to -san, but is more polite/usually used when addressing someone in a higher position. dono is also similar to -san, but I believe it is mostly used in writing i.e. when writing an envelope etc. There's others too, with varying levels of politeness.. takes a while to learn them all and when to use them.

duomo arigatou gozaimasu is a general thank you.
duomo arigatou gozaimashita is thank you for something that has been completed, like if you borrowed someone's phone and used it... you would say that after you had finished with it.
also, there are levels of politeness too:
arigatou = thanks
duomo arigatou = thank you
duomo arigatou gozaimasu = thank you very much.

Anata wa okii desu (you are big )
Kore wa okii desu (this / that is big)
There's quite a few words for they, depending on who "they" are. There's also more words for "me, I" , "you" and "this, that" depending on the context.
"watashi" = me, I
"anata" = you
"okii" = big
"desu" = is, are
"hako" = box - not sure how the sentence is structured though.
To make those sentences into questions, add "ka" to the end.....
Watashi wa okii desu ka (am i big?)
etc. |
that's mean if i want to translate "you are beautiful" in japanese, would it be "anata wa uruwashii desu"? or any other way to say it? in informal way?
then, what is that 'wa'?

how if want to say " thanks to him" and "thanks to Sakura" and "thank you, Sakura"?
what shall i say if someone thanks to me? (as a reply)
so 'gozaimasu' means 'very much' (isn't it?). Then, how "i like you" and "i like you very much" in Japanese? Can we use gozaimasu here?

Alrighty, where to begin?
First, I should just point out that Anime Dad's explanation for your "This is big" post was 100% correct except for one thing.
"Big" in Japanese is "ookii" (long 'o' and long 'i'), not "okii."
But other than that, it's totally fine.
Okay, as for "gozaimasu" meaning "very much," that would be a 'no'.
If you are serious about learning Japanese (or any other foreign language, for that matter), you should get rid of this thought that there is a 1-to-1 translation for everything.
Language is culture-based, and as no two cultures are exactly the same, you will never be able to translate things word-for-word.
(Which is why when you do, it sounds funny.)
As an example, in certain situations, "arigatou" can mean "I love you" in Japanese (albeit in a very limited number).
Now, this may clear up your second question:
How would you say "Thanks to Sakura" and "Thank you, Sakura"?
"Sakura no okage de."
(Thanks to Sakura.)
"Arigatou, Sakura."
(Thank you, Sakura.)
While in English the above two sentences are somewhat related (in that they use the same words), the Japanese sentences use completely different words to express the same ideas.
I recommend you get a beginner's book on Japanese, if you are serious about learning it (which it appears that you are ).
Such books usually offer clear and detailed descriptions of Japanese grammar.
Anyway, good luck on the studying, and remember that we are here to help you!
HTH,
