RALPH - that was nice trick (breaking the subtitle lines) I was almost happy but it only worked on some of the lines and didn't on some, so some of them still gets cut off.. Even when I changed the the maximum line to 35. Some lines still goes beyond. do you happen to know how to fix it?

I run pretty much everything in batch mode, so I launch it before I go to sleep and when I wake up, it's done.

I guess you found out you have to highlight all the lines.

Hope you like this software as much as I do.

There's also a little trick I found that I don' t think is explained.

Suppose you want to delay the time for x number of lines (let's say 110 lines are off by 500 ms.)

You highlight the 110 lines.

Then click on control and D.
That will open a 'set delay' window. You set the (+ -) pull down wether you want to add or subtract time from those lines. Select wether you wan to adjust the enitre file or just the highlighted lines. then enter the amount of time you want to increase or decrease. from the right the first 3 digits are thousands of a second. So if you enter 500 you will adjust the time by 1/2 second. When you click on apply the highlighted lines are adjusted.

I just downloaded Rasen (The Spiral - sorta sequel to The Ring) which took literally WEEKS on EMule. Only problem is, it's hardsubbed in FRENCH

Is there a way of removing hardsubs? I have managed to find English subs for it, which sit nicely above the French ones, but i'd like to get rid of the French ones if possible...

Thanks beem, but that's for softsubs, from what I can see. Everything i've read says that it's nearly impossible to do properly

Onr of those sub programs (DVDSubRip?) can blank out the existing subs, then you can add in your English subs... It probably won't be perfect, but better than trying to overlay the English subs over the existing ones...

Hmmm, some experimentation is in order. I had better burn the original to CD first, in case I stuff it up

I'm new at converting avi to dvd.. I had a lot of help from mebo (she's an angel) I could never get winavi to work right for me for some odd reason and found convertxtodvd.. I agree with you it's great!! I love it. But I do have a question..
I had downloaded HYD 2 (hardsubbed) after converting with convertxtodvd I realized some of the subtitles are close to the left and right sides or go off the screen.. I'm sure there are other programs that you can go in and adjust to fix size for the hardsubs.. but do you know (since using the program) can you go in and adjust so the subs don't go off the screen? I've done it with soft subs and even picked colors that you can actually read the subs. I have another jdrama that this is doing the same thing and would like fix if possible.. (without having to redownload raw version and soft subs)

Actually, I have the same problem. I haven't tried to remedy it yet though. I had thought of changing the aspect ratio to see if it fixed the problem, but i'm not sure if it's possible with ConvertXtoDVD. I'm not even sure if it's a problem with the program itself or if it's widescreen video being played on my non-widescreen TV, but in full-screen mode. If it was 16:9 widescreen in letterbox format it might not be the same...

I guess I need to try to find a manual online for convertxtodvd to see if there is a way or not. It's ashame if there isn't cause I really love the program.. I think it does a really nice job.

How many episodes/file sizes have you tried to fit on one dvd? The most I've tried so far is 4 episodes.. which usually brings 3 dvds to a series. I see a lot of people who push getting only 2 dvds per a drama series.. but I worry about the quality.

Well if you happen to find anything more out with the hardsubs please let me know.. and I'll do the same or if there is another program.. that's just as nice to use that will work..

Depends on the episode length. I can get 4 eps of a 25 minute show on to one DVD, but for the typical 45 minute or 1 hour drama, usually I only get 2. I would rather burn more DVD's than sacrifice quality.

Not sure if you've ever tried TMPGenc, but with that program, you can resize your frame and account for any TV overscan which pushes your text off screen...

Unless the original hardsub has the text off screen as well. In that case you're out of luck.

I guess I'm gonna be running into that problem sooner or later since I'm using ConvertXtoDVD now.. and I agree.. it is much easier and really good quality too. I've only tried putting 4 episodes on one disc.

I've never tried that program.. I'm very new to doing this and a little gun shy on understanding a lot of it.. but I will definately try to find it online and give it a try.. unless of course as you said if it's on the original I won't have much luck. I know a lot of people use winavi.. which I bought and have had not much luck with it.. I always seem to end up with extra files that it makes and large files. Mebo has been terrific at helping me with the program.. but for some reason I just couldn't get the hang of it.. while looking for help info online, that's when I came across convertxtodvd and bought that.. for someone new to this like me.. and basically dumb to it.. convertxtodvd is very simple to use and yet gives a nice out come..

I know a lot of people like having less discs but why push the quality of something to save a dvd.. I think three is probably a safe amount to go with.. but with shorter titles.. I have found four to be the most and still keep a good quality..
