You should make this request in the Buy, Sell, Trade forum: you'll probably get a better response. Smile

is there a better dorama out there than Sekai no chuushin? I liked it better than 1 Liter of Tears, Beautiful Life, and just about every other dorama that I've seen.

Wow, really?! I liked this drama, but not more than 1 litre or Beautiful Life. There wasn't enough character development and I felt the drama was trying too hard to make you feel sad and depressed. I dunno, just my opinion. Smile

Hmm.... I feel this is the best drama I have ever seen in Japanese dramas and perhaps in US dramas as well. I have to even relegate my beloved Kuninaka Ryoko in Churasan to 2nd place. The intensity of the feelings between Aki and Saku and the pervasive sense of loss even now fill me with chills. I still cannot watch it over beyong the first few episodes because it is so superior to any other drama in manipulating the emotions. Applaud Shameful Cry

Ralph, funny you used the term "manipulating."

That's how I felt when I watched it, and I didn't like that feeling.

But I think that's just it. I found it too overwhelming in the sense that there was never any rest. There was never a moment given to allow you to recover. It was just a rush of sorrow without any balance. I think it was grand, but I don't think I'd consider it the best. I guess B-san's point has something to do with it as well.

The writers and producers of the series were very adept at creating situations that invoked emotional responses that were more intense then I've ever felt before.... but to me they were not disliked any more than you would shun the emotional response on a modern roller coaster.
For example:

BTW. IMO the movie was a hopeless loss and should not even be allowed to have the same title. It has none of the beauty and simplicity of the series and certainly none of the emotional impact. For me it was not even the same story.... Just a few lines of script were the same. The characters were entirely different and the world they lived in was totally alien to the series.
OK. Let me retreat behind my armor for the arrows that will be slung my way. U Suck Shoot

lol no worries, Ralph-sama! glomp

I haven't actually seen the movie. I've had bad experiences with movies that are also Dramas, because I always watch the drama first. Therefore the movies are always a disappointment. I mean, it's impossible to create in 2 hours what a drama does in nearly 12. I don't think I'll ever take the initiative to watch this movie.

I agree with Ralph that Crying Out Love is one of the greatest dramas ever filmed. The first time I watched the series, from the time she goes into the hospital, I cried so much during and after each episode, I made myself sick. I felt as if I were losing someone so precious to me, so necessary to the universe, that I could not bear it.

Is this manipulation? I don't think so, because I have over the years watched many, many so-called tearjerkers, some obvious, some subtle, some extremely skillful, but nothing has ever grabbed me like this and torn out my heart so completely.

I think it has to be unrenlenting, dramatically speaking, because it's an all or nothing game, and she's losing, and you know that from the first few minutes. So every scene of them together has such a poignant and tragic overlay, to feel relief, to have the pain let up, would be a disservice to Aki, to her heroic struggle. I have always felt that the only thing that gets me to watch it all through to the end is the feeling I have that I must pay tribute to her, to suffer with her and mourn her.

I think if you don't immediately feel that deep connection with Aki and Saku, their love and their pain, you probably should move on to some other dorama, because this story is so primal, so devoid of any frills and extras, that if it doesn't zing you where you live right away, it probably never will.

I just finished watching this drama and its a great one. Well I didn't cry during the first 6 episodes but already though I began to get attached to the characters, especially Aki and Saku. From episode 7 till the end I cried so much because you can feel the end coming.Shameful Cry You can feel the connection and I felt the pain Saku and Aki felt. The emotional response just came by watching the drama.

The cinematography of the show was amazing like the scenes in the Austrailian Aborogines. The casting was wonderful but there were a few characters that were just average. Crying Out Love in the Center of the World is a very touching drama and I definitely recommend it.

this drama is really great, I finished it in 1 day.

2 years ago, I watched a Japanese movie "crying out love in the center of the world", and last year, a Korean movie "My girl and I", they pretty much have the same story as the drama, and in my opinion, they are not that good. So, they ruined the drama for me Bang Head

I just watch the first episode of Byakuyakou (Journey Under A Midnight Sun), same cast, it is really something, very good, even better than "crying out love". but it also will be a sad love story. So I want to wait untill the whole series is subbed, I hate having to stop at the middle, very depressing.

Seriously I think I'm quite a emotional ppl, I cried almost in all the episodes =| including the first few episodes, Seriously I think the Dorama is way better then the movie. because in the dorama each episode, i get to know more of each individual character and like somehow live with them for that dorama.

Although there is much disagreement with my POV, I thought the older Saku was perfect, low key, beaten by life.... as should be in keeping with his emotional distress. Applaud
