I'm letting my hair grow, it's always been short. Let's see how long I can let it go. Last time I cut my hair was in Sept.

The first pic looks like a 'French braid' with yarn braided through it on the side. French braids are usually done straight down the back of the head.

The second pic looks like an African 'Cornrow' style with something lighter in color braided through it.

They can both be accomplished with hair 'extensions' if your hair isn't long enough.

You should be able to find instructions for them on the internet. Hope that helps. Smile

The first pic she has grey yarn braided through her hair. The 2nd pic she looks like she has dyed hair extensions braided through her cornrows. They are not the same hairstyle or 'white thing' in her hair in the two different pics. You can usually buy those hair extensions at most beauty supply places.

I think it all depends upon how fast your own hair grows. They are either sewn or glued in at the roots if I am not mistaken. Check with a hair dresser who knows how to put them in properly so that you don't damage your own hair. Some people can not tolerate the tightness of the braids in a cornrow style and wind up pulling them out. So be careful. Plus there is a special way to shampoo your hair while you have them in. I have never had 'hair extensions I just know this info through my hairdresser, former co-workers and magazines. Good Luck! Victory! Peace!

My daughters had their hair braided while we were in Fiji on holiday a few years ago, probably similar to cornrows. Just beware that if you want to take them out, put aside a few hours of spare time - it's a LONG job to undo each braid and get all the knots out. After we had finished, their hair was like an afro Smile

Unless you have a perfect skull, shaving your head might not be a good idea.

@Wynter: How short are you planning on cutting your hair? About shoulder length?

@keps: What are you talking about? You have great hair?

Yea, or mebbe halfway down my back. In either case, I wanna cut off all the split ends... so we're talking at least 5 inches. ashamed
