They would be constantly fighting for the spotlight. You will notice that dramas typically have a main actor and actress that pair up, and a bunch of supporting actors and actresses to mix things up. Usually the supporting actors and actresses never have leading roles in dramas.

putting all big names together like that does not guarantee success. and besides, it'll be too much money to spend on a project like that to see it to be a bomb. I'm sure the execs in JPN TV land have thought about this at least once.
Also, it is up to the stars as well. like nismo hinted before, the spotlight may ony shine one person at a time.

Hey all
Ok, when I was in Japan last August, there was a frankly brilliant tv show that me and my friend did our best to watch during our busy schedule.

Basically, from what I can remember, it was a fairly dark teen drama/comedy, and was about a group of teenagers and their daily lives.
I seem to remember they spent alot of time chilling out on their doorsteps and in the park chatting to a gang of girls.
It was a fairly relaxed programme, and was absolutely fantastic. One particular episode I remember was when they were deciding who should be the local council leader or something. There were 2 opposing candidates, and they had a group of followers supporting them. The kids were caught up in the event, and in the end things got pretty heavy. I think one of the mothers at the end of the episode did the cliche'd 'lets not fight, but work together' routine, and all ended well!

I think it was on at around 8 or 9 o'clock on a weeknight. I have no idea what is was called, but do any programmes match the above, vague description?!

Im desperate to try and track some dvds of it down, or find some bit torrents, so any help would be absolutely magic.
Many thanks
Dave

Do you mean August 2002 or 2003? Any clue of the channel? It also could have been a rerun from another season. Sometimes between seasons they rerun shows (TBS especially, that comes to mind first).

It was August 2003. Im cant remember what channel it was, but we watched it on hotel cable, so I imagine it was one of the main Tokyo tv channels.

On October 2, 1995 SMAP, TOKIO and KinKi Kids got together for a special which was a variety show and also included a mystery drama segment featuring all three groups.

As for Sorimachi Takuya and Takuya together, your best bet is the movie "Kimi wo Wasurenai ~Fly Boys Fly~".

The movie came out back in 1995 I believe. The spotlight is pretty much on the misfit team of pilots in WWII with the leader being Karasawa Toshiaki, Kimura and Sorimachi are pilots. Sorimachi is enthusiastic about the military and being with the team of misfits and talks about how many planes he has shot down while Kimura is a pilot who is more human than soldier (the difference as his character would say... a human wouldn't let the war continue) that has long hair [note: I remember people had a problem with Kimura portraying a pilot who has long hair especially during the war].

The pilots have been brought together but they are not sure for what and why they are training.

As for the spotlight...it's more on Kimura because there is a connection between him and his superior (Karasawa), so you see Kimura more than Sorimachi (during this time, Sorimachi wasn't super popular but I do remember magazines covering him for quite a bit for this role...but then again, magazines were hot covering Kimura Takuya at the time more than anyone else).

dave -

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the show "Stand Up", which aired on TBS over the summer last year. It's about a bunch of high school guys wanting to lose their virginity during the summer break of grade 11. It stars Ninomiya from Arashi. Some more info here - http://jdorama.com/drama_761.htm

If you are interested in getting the show, it seems like its being posted episode by episode on Womby's tracker (http://bunko.theppn.org) If you want DVDs, its already on sale from TBS Entertainment.

I'll try and describe it as best I can, if anybody knows the name of it I'd be really grateful ^^
Note: It was fansubbed by some group, I think the same that subbed To Heart.

For some reason which escapes me at the moment, a Chinese criminal (diamond thief)? needs to recieve Japanese citizenship. However, this normally takes a year, and she doesn't have that amount of time; so she forges wedding papers- with a particular unlucky man who is just about to get married. (The man had glasses if that helps).
Let the comedy and romance commence and stuff.

I remember in one part when he goes to get wedding papers for his fiance is when he finds out that he is already 'married' and tries to contact the girl.

If anybody can tell me what dorama this is, I'd be supaa grateful ^^

Thanks in advance.
