I'm new to downloading j-dorama's... I've been watching Kaze no Haruka on KTSF, here in Mountain View. It's light, long and has a "family" based theme. (The characters are of all ages.) I have enjoyed Long Vacation in the past, as well as Love & Peace.

I'm looking for a family based drama, light, happy ending-ish, warm fuzzy feelign at the end of each episode without being too fluffy. (Is this a lot ot ask for? Maybe! Ha ha!)

Also, I would love to get into a more current "Long Vacation" type drama that is based on late twenties or thirty somethings.

Haven't been on this forum in years.

Anyways, I'm wondering if you guys have any other j-dorama recommendations as I'm trying to look for a dorama that focuses more on college/university life in Japan. I did watch Orange days and loved it a lot.

Thanks!

I know it's a bit outdated, but I just finished watching ichi ritoru no namida.. and now starting to watch taiyou no uta..
I like them both so much, so touching and sad..

so I wonder if there are any other series like that..
excluding ordinary romance series (like most of kdramas out there) if possible Mr Green

maybe Kamisama mou sukoshi dake

The focus on the love story is much stronger than in Ichi Ritoru no Namida. It's not cliche though.

What are some of the non-romance focused drama? Doesn't have to be heavy, but heavy is fine. No tear jerkers though, i've cried too much for ichi ritoru no namida. I love Little Chef, Iryu, Kuitan.. Smile

Maybe Ruri no shima ? It's rather subtle in a way.

Hotman comes to mind, though I didn't think it was particularly special.
I would highly recommend Hitotsu yane no shita, really wonderful story and characters, and you get a great sense of them being a family. It's hard to find though. It's also rather heavy with lighter moments in between.
Actually I'm interested in this type of drama too.

----

I would also recommend Boku to Kanojo to Kanojo no Ikiru Michi. It's the second of a series of 3 un-related dramas. I would recommend all 3 of them.

^ I totally agree with Kamisama and Hotman there. Two awesome series not to be missed!

Also, where on earth would I find Boku no Ikiru Michi? I've been looking for that drama EVERYWHERE. T____T. (with subs)

Anyways, here are my favs. If you haven't seen, go watch:

My Boss, My Hero
1 Litre of Tears
Densha Otoko
Orange Days
Nodame Cantabile
Hana Yori Dango 1/2
Last Christmas
Attention Please

There's still plenty for me to see though. I just got through the most popular.

Is Orange Days really good? I watched only the first half hour of episode one and couldn't get into it. Currently watching Nobuta No Produce. Excellent show.

@gaijinmark; thats definitely a good show, but for some reason I wasn't wholeheartedly into it as i was say.. with 1lot

@Spackle; i thought the first half hour was pretty dull myself. it doesnt get good until a couple of eps later, when you start to see the intricacies involved in the characters and their relationships. after i finished it, i was almost in tears at how wonderful i think it is. very inspirational, touching and heartwarming. i love it to bits. after 1lot, its probably my fav drama. its the drama that converted my mum from korean series to japanese ones. 1lot didnt even do it for her

Anybody here who's seen both Brother Beat and Tokkyu Tanaka 3go? I wanted to ask which one's better, since I can't pick on which one to watch first...

I've seen both. Both series have very different plots, but I'd have to say that Brother Beat has the stronger cast and overall better storyline in the end.

That's not to say that TT3G wasn't any good, it just felt like after halfway through the series, the episodes were blurring together, and not in a good way. By the finale came around (which from what I remember, came 1 episode early due to low ratings), the big payoff really fell flat IMHO.

Brother Beat, which I ironically watched the same time TT3G was airing, held my attention better with a strong cast and decent writing. It too had it's pitfalls, but in that same aspect I felt it had a much tighter story and ending (sadly I lost the series after a hard drive crash so I didn't get to check out the special).

In all, both series are only really average, with TT3G getting a 7 and BB getting a 7.5 in my books. My suggestion is to watch BB first and then TT3G second.

Wakatta Big Grin Thank you for the extensive review and suggestions! I really wanted to watch TT3G first because I really find Tanaka Koki funny, plus that fact that Kuriyama Chiaki's there too... so I guess I'll go watch it first.. to save the best for last. Naughty

Thanks once again! Big Grin

That was exactly my point. The shows are both excellently cast (especially since it's Tanaka's first lead), but the storyline bottomed out near the end tying up loose ends quickly, while Brother Beat actually was able to toss in a few subplots and complete them near the end without any real hitch.

Damn, now I gotta go redownload the Special to truly finish that sucker off, lol.

I think he's asking us to coordinate and take over a TV station in the Phillipines to air J-Drama in Primetime.

Sure, we'll get on that the same time we get the same for our respective countries. hehe

I was the same when I watched it but later on you'll get hooked. A really beautiful drama. One of the best I've seen actually.
Mr Green

Can anyone recommend a good romance-based drama? It's been a long time since I've seen one. Watching action/mystery/suspense dramas a lot these days.
