I don't think Byakuyakou was really a tear-jerker. Just a really fucked-up romance. I don't think she'd be into that at all.

Yea, it was pretty screwed up. Good call.

Ima Ai ni...I haven't seen, so I might watch it before deciding.

DEFINITELY WATCH IT!

Quote:
As for Tokyo Wankei, I prefer letting her watch good dramas because she's not much of a drama fan so I doubt she'd watch just anything.

Ahhhh okies, makes sense. But then, I didn't think Boku/Madonna was a good drama... Sweat

Quote:
Pride, I haven't watched either. Is it a tear-jerker though?

If she wants to cry a lot, then no.

Quote:
Last Christmas...I don't think it's tear-jerking enough.

Sumimasen. Sweat

Quote:
Summer Snow. I think she might have seen that, but I can't remember since it was aired long ago in Hawaii. I didn't think it was that great, so I forgot all about its cliched depressing ending.

Puppy Dog Eyes

Quote:
Beautiful Life, I think she saw parts of it when it aired in Hawaii, but didn't finish it. I think that was a very overrated drama and wouldn't recommend at all. :/

Puppy Dog Eyes

Jeez, cori! I'm now officially afraid to make recommendations. Shameful Cry

A romantic drama that almost never gets mentioned (and for the life of me I can't figure out why) is Overtime. It's written by Eriko Kitagawa (Long Vacation, Beautiful Life, Orange Days) has an unbelievably great cast; Esumi Makiko, Takashi Sorimachi, Yuriko Ishida.

O! My brother is watching this right now and he said it's great. I had no idea it was a love story. Good

Aw, please don't be afraid. I must apologize to you for being so catty with my comments. Sad I wasn't in the best of moods at that time. That's no excuse for that though. Sumimasen. Shameful Cry

I'll defintely check Ima ai ni some time soon. Gosh, it seems my drama watching is going to take a detour. hehe

While I loved Over Time, it isn't a tear-jerker imo. My friend basically wants to have a good cry. I don't understand it myself, but I guess I have strange friends. Hmmm...maybe it's because she gave birth about a month ago and wants to release some stress, I have no clue. Sweat

No need to apologize! It's only natural to go through various moods. glomp Our variance in character is what makes human beings so interesting.

GOOD! It's worth the detour. Thumbsup

Sekai no chuushin de, ai wo sakebu

I thought this was the most obvious one.

And I don't know...
Summer Snow? Shiroi Kage? Mahiru no Tsuki?

Has anyone watched Teru Teru Kazuko?
http://jdorama.com/drama.877.htm
I am thinking of buying it. It sounds quite enjoyable but there is only one (bad) review, and I couldn't find any more review/information about this asodora.

I'd pass on Shiroi Kage even though it's got Yuko Takeuchi AND Miki Mizuno, it's the old "terminal illness" cliche, which has been done to death,(bad pun Shake Head ) and Beautiful Life pretty much broke the mold on that.

The very definition of a weep-fest.

Nisennen no Koi (maybe it's not tear-jerker, but if your friend like Kaneshiro Takeshi Naughty )

Quote:
any other suggestions?

Taiyou no Uta (there's a movie version by YUI, drama version by Erika sawajiri)

Hoshi no Kinka (Heaven's Coins) Thumbsup Thumbsup
and it still have Zoku Hoshi no Kinka and Shin Hoshi no Kinka

Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora (i want to recommed this anime cause it's good and touching. But there's also a live action drama of it but i didn't watch, so don't know the drama is good or not...)

I think Sekachuu might be a possiblity. Thanks! Big Grin

Summer Snow & Mahiru no Tsuki, I don't think she'd be into. Mahiru is more on the depressing side, imo. Shiroi Kage, I'm not familiar with.

Beautiful Life broke the mold? In what way? Maybe I was too jaded when I first saw that drama, but I thought it was boring, forgettable, and overall not a very good drama despite all the hype it got. Then again, that was over 5 years ago and it aired only once a week, so maybe I didn't get the full impact when I watched it.

@ kami_kaze: Taiyou no Uta might be a good one, but some of the others suggested, I felt were better. This is only based on the drama. Maybe the movie might be better. Hoshi no Kinka was ok, but more frustrating than sad. And don't get me started on the sequel. 3rd one sucked. Sad I've never heard of Hanbun. Hopefully I can find it because it sounds kinda interesting.

@ Maiuuri: I thought of 1 Litre of Tears too, but there wasn't that much of a romance going on. Still, it is one helluva weepfest (I cried like every damn episode ashamed ) I might consider this one as well.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions, everyone! Now to figure out which one to give her. Sweat

Eh, I just got her a bunch of diapers for her new baby, so she can just use those instead. hehe

And I ended up giving her Sekachuu. I'll probably give her some other dramas if she likes this one. Thanks again for the suggestions! Big Grin

Sekachuu is pretty damn amazing...

um...

could Kou Kou Kyoushi 1993 count? or would that be a bit too ...erm... controversial? lol

speaking of Sanada Hiroyuki...

Konna koi no hanashi is a not so obvious one... but it's a classic, nonetheless.

Since I just finished it, I definitely recommend Proposal Daisakusen if you haven't seen it yet. I found it to be quite romantic to say the least, as it has one man 'traveling through time' to try to win the heart of the girl he never could tell his feelings to.

Just finished it too and I'd like to say a big THANK YOU it was brilliant...I loved it. would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to watch a Romance/comedy.

Hi, I'm new here ... I just found this thread i thought that it would be great to get some personal recommendations ^.^

So I'm looking for a Romance, if possible with younger main characters (since I'm young myself xD) and not too sad! well.. i don't care if it's sad, it just has to have a happy end!! ;_;

Doramas I've watched so far:

-Devil Beside you & Why why love (well yeah, taiwanese, I know)
-Nodame Cantabile
-Hotaru no Hikari
-Nobuta wo Produce
-Kurosagi
-Stand up
-Ikebukuro West Gate Park
-Utahime
-My Boss My Hero
-Ganbatte Ikimasshoi
-Attention Please
-1 Litre of Tears
-14 Sai no Haha
-Hana Yori Dango 1+2
-Kimi Wa Petto
-Bambino
-Itazura na Kiss
-Liar Game
-Yukan Club
-Proposal Daisakusen
-Tatta Hitotsu no Koi
-1 Pound Gospel
-Gachibaka
-Gokusen
-Hana Kimi
-sore wa totsuzen arashi no you ni

... I hope I didn't forget one. Well I was quite busy watching it ... I watched all these doramas in less than 2 month %DDD

Those I liked the most (maybe it's easier to see what would fit me best):
I loved all doramas with yamapi (EXCEPT FOR THIS STUPID IT CAME SUDDEN LIKE A STORM ÖSF HSÖDFH this stupid woman made me crazy xD), tatta hitotsu no koi, my boss my hero, Nodame Cantabile of course, Yukan Club, 14 sai no haha, 1 litre of tears (i watched 23 hours without break and well i cried AT LEAST 1 litre xD), hotaru no hikari, 1 pound gospel and those 2 taiwanese doramas with mike He.

thanks in advance <3[/b]
