The only Korean drama I've seen is Super Rookie it's part drama/part comedy/part romance. A combination of all three. I liked it.
Oops, I meant that I wanted suggestions for Japanese dramas for someone who primarily watches Korean dramas. I want to show her that there are good Japanese ones too. _________________

Wow not silly cuts my Recommendations down quite a bit...
What Korean dramas has she seen (and which ones would she recommend...I've started watching them but I don't know which ones I should watch next...) and what sort of dramas is she into
Here are some recommendations...
For Romance
Tatta Hitotsu no Koi
For Comedy
Kekkon Dekinai Otoko (although this might contain elements of silly)
Unsure of their silliness (least amount of silliness IMO)
Anego
Brother Beat
Hanayome to Papa
First Kiss
Last Christmas
Love Revolution
Lunch no Jouu
Hotaru no Hikari
Proposal Daisakuken

I don't know if I recommended this last time, but I would say Rondo since it is really half a Korean show. The second half especially gets pretty melodramatic. I've heard lots of criticisms of it because of that but I still enjoyed the show. It has crime-fighting and romance and two different languages. Sadly, I did not learn any Korean from the show.

Not sure what she has seen because she's just an acquaintance who I only see once a year. She's in her 40's or 50's, which is why I didn't think she'd want silly or high school dramas.

I think that some of these might work, but I haven't seen most of them, so I'm unsure. Thanks for the suggestions!

I think that she might have seen Rondo already because it aired in Hawaii. I haven't seen it myself, so I really should try to check it out since your description sounds good. _________________

I thought the characters setup in Love Generation resembles typical Korean dramas. It felt "heavier" than the Korean dramas I've watched though.
Maybe Long Vacation? It's so obvious that I almost forgot. heh

Glad you liked those dramas. And I did mention that Chakushin Ari is like Ringu, so that should have warned you not to watch it late at night. I wanted to get that ringtone for my phone, but at the same time, I didn't want to freak myself out every time it rang.
Well one of the SE standard alarm clock ring tones sounds kinda similar as the eerie one in the Drama. Especially if it goes off unexpectedly. In a dark Appartment early on saturday morning. After watching Chakushin Ari earlier that night. And theres a pale long haired hokaido girl stumbling out of the bathroom. Oh my goood
However, we liked the "open" final scene of that drama very very much .
Always nice when it ends with a ... smile ...

My default for dramas is usually going to be Long Vaca or Love Gen, I just wanted to find out if there was anything that I overlooked. If I can't get my hands on the other dramas that were suggested, I might just have to go with one of these.

Ah, I see. I don't think that my Verizon phone has anything that sounds similar to that Chakushin Ari one. Besides, I want the EXACT one so I can get freaked out. And don't get me started about long-haired Japanese girls. I know about that first hand.

Thanky you very much; working down that list at the moment .
But if there are any other recommendable scary jdoramas, please let us know...
Scary jdramas? I can't think of any. Well, maybe Rasen, which is a continuation of Ring. Hopefully someone else can suggest other dramas because I'm curious myself. _________________

How about Gokusen 2.
There's also Kirakira Kenshui...
While those are certainly horror dramas, I don't think it's the type of "horror" that teucom is looking for. Unless he's into torture. _________________

Does anyone recommend Utahime? I know it's somewhat of a comedy, but I've read that there's romance too. What do you guys think of it? And would you recommend it to someone who likes romantic Korean dramas? (maybe I should've posted this in the Utahime thread..) _________________
hmmm have you watched Battle Royale yet? its not a series but a must watch...probably one of the first Japanese things I watched...certainly filled with horror, blood and gore. _________________

I loved Utahime. One of the better shows I"ve seen in a long time.
As for Kaidan Hyaku Shosetsu. Some of the episodes were terrific.
It's an anthology of some of the classic Japanese Ghost and Horror stories.
Not Ringu or the Grudge. These are the scary stories that have been around for generations.
I knew many of the basic stories from seeing them in old movies. And I thought that in some cases... they did a better job of telling the story on the TV show. I guess because they couldn't use big effects, they had to concentrate on the story instead. _________________

Eek. I recorded the Battle Royale films off the tv very recently, and I was trying to steel myself to watch them.
I hate being scared, but I really want to watch because the story intrigues me.

There's nothing to be scared of...I was more scared when I opened the fridge and they're were no cans of Boddington's Ale left, love.
