I've been BUSY with my drama watching, I think I need to report in!
- Finished Last Friends. Yea, if you want to know my opinion on it, go read the thread.
- Marathonned H2 over the weekend. Not a bad show at all, though it was a tad unrealistic with how fast the team improved (how nonchalant it treated Koshien at times too!), still a fun watch.
- Searching for new drama, I decided to start Engine Sunday morning, and am 3 episodes in. I'm liking this show as well, though my busy schedule has prevented me from watching more yet, this is a keeper as well.
- In other series wrapping up this season, up to 10 in Zettai Kareshi and 6 in Rookies. After my bitter taste from Last Friends, I'm glad these predictable but fun series are at least not vastly changing from the initial shows (I'm actually preferring Rookies over Gokusen 3 since, aside from obvious reasons of the stale storyline provided by Gokusen, the delinquents actually seem as such!).
Onwards and upwards! I just passed my 2-year mark of watching J-drama, and think I may go back to the first show I ever watched, Densha Otoko, in a marathon to celebrate.
This had the first of many touching scenes that make this such a fun drama:
Click on button to reveal/hide spoiler:
Eri runs away from home. But everyone knew about it. Showing what a tight knit family the Kohaguras are. The look on her face when she opens the bag to find the munchies and the money to help her on her way. According to master card "Priceless".
I loved the whole 11 day ride. Put simply... my fast forward finger got quite a rest as I didn't have to use it once.
This is not your run of the mill, cookie cutter drama. It doesn't fit into any of the comfortable catagories. It's not a happy-dappy bit'o'silliness. It's not a maudlin melo drama. And odds are... younger viewers probably won't like it at all. But I did.
Kohinata Fumiyo gave an outstanding performance playing the two sides of Kita-San. Namase Katsuhisa's insurance investigator is a character that I'd love to see get his own series. And I think Yoshitaka Yuriko surprized the heck out of everyone. She just jumped off the screen as the "fallen idol".
Manami... well, I said it earlier. Her performance as the zombie like ex wife hurt the show.
But watching the other people work kept her from being a complete anchor. _________________

Geezer, re: Ashita no Kita, , , I could not agree more. Katushisa Namase and Jun Kamane should get their own spin-off. And where did Ryuhei Matsuda come from??? Great as the "pimp with a heart of gold"!! I gave this one a 9/10 and I know it's early but this gets my vote so far as "Best Drama of 2008"

I loved Kohinata Fumiyo in that drama! That, and Ruri no Shima made me a fan of his. And as usual, Namase Katsuhisa is great as the oddball character.

He seems to be more of a movie actor than a drama one. He's also in a family of actors (most people know his younger brother Matsuda Shota).
ON topic: Watched the last 2 episodes of Zettai Kareshi. What a sobfest. _________________

I'll let you know how bad or how awful it is.
I'd offer it... but mine is a retail copy and I always have trouble trying to copy those.
Eeps, a retail version? Hopefully the subs aren't too Engrishy. Looking forward to your review. Wish one day you'd put them on the "My Dramas" section..
On topic: I'm going to try sneaking in another episode of Sweet Home. I keep on meaning to watch this drama, but I get distracted by other things. _________________

Finished Zettai Kareshi. I cried just a little. I liked the show, even though manga fans didn't. Kind of glad I don't read manga anymore.
Watched eps 8 and 9 of Last Friends. Still like it, but the Michiru/Sousuke story should have finished by now. Move on to the other characters. Sadly, I can never resist spoilers so I know how it ends.
Finished another Korean drama earlier this week so I think it's time to move on to a Taiwanese one. Or maybe I should finish Aishiteiru to Itte Kure first. It's pretty good, but not as great as I was expecting so I only made it about halfway through so far. _________________

Gomen.
