I'm having an MTV flashback: been downloading all the cool music videos from the 80's... Great stuff. Victory! Peace!

Does MTV exist anymore? What are they doing nowadays? Head Scratch

I quit watching MTV a long time ago. I would guess they have mostly Real World reruns Sweat

I used to download music videos often, but since I really haven't been following what's good in the music lately my downloading has stopped. The last album I bought was Feist - The Reminder back in May of last year, so it's been a while. I don't listen to radio either, so I'm really out of the loop.

Back in the 80's, a couple of friends and I would record something like a day's worth of music videos, then each one of us got a chance to copy all of the ones we wanted to keep.... Sweat

I think I still have those tapes somewhere. Beaten

Currently watching The Untouchables - Free Yourself Victory! Peace!

I took my son and his friend to see Joe Satriani in Sydney last night. Damn, he rocks hard for an old(er) guy - he's 52 now I think. It was also fantastic to see Stu Hamm in action again - the guy is just amazing. One of the best bass players ever.

i've recently invested in an 8gb memory card for my mobile phone so i now use that as my mp3 player. i can switch the phone function off so it can be used on planes but i bet it'll still cause some concerns with other passengers. has anyone encountered any problems?

As fans of asian media, we frequently hear music performed on instruments we in the west are not familiar with...

One instrument I hear quite a lot is the erhu, sometimes known in the West as the "Chinese violin"...for the most part, it has a high pitched sound, sometimes even sounding like a woman singing...

I've become quite fond of this instrument of late, and thought I'd let others get a sample...

This piece has the erhu carrying the melody in a very popular song by Coldplay...

If you listened to the first download, you'll have no trouble recognizing the erhu in the opening of this classic anime...
http://www.sendspace.com/file/la9vpd

Finally, while the prior two pieces are excellent, this is a stupendous performance by a virtuoso erhu player...
http://www.sendspace.com/file/66vxaz

I have two close friends who are professional musicians...one is a violinist with the Houston Grand Opera and the Houston Ballet...the other is a violist with the same orchestras...both of them, after hearing the above music, were amazed by the subtlety achieved by an instrument that's relatively crude compared to the ones they play...

Anyway, I love the erhu and hope you enjoy hearing it as well...
