It's gonna be interesting: I remember in one Olympic match (Athens I think) Australia's Lauren Jackson accidentally grabbed Lisa Leslie's hair while falling and pulled off a hair extension she was wearing Who wears hair extensions to the Olympics?
There's a lot of rivalry there, partly because a lot of the Aussie girls play (or have played) in the WNBA.
Anime Dad, I take it you're a big basketball fan from Australia, no?
I'm just curious ... is Lauren Jackson the most famous basketball player (men and women) from Australia? Is she looked as a goddess down there?

Nope, not really

No, she's not the most famous Aussie basketball player, although she's probably the best-known of the women. Probably the best-known current player would be Andrew Bogut, who plays in the NBA. The best-known of all time would probably be Luc Longley, who played with the Chicago Bulls when Michael Jordan was king.
Lauren Jackson is regarded as probably the best female basketball player ever to come from Australia. Next would probably be Michelle Timbs, who also played in the WNBA but is now assistant coach of the Chinese women's team.
I say "probably" to all those because basketball has a very low profile in Australia compared to other team sports - much less than in the USA. And women's basketball is much lower profile than mens. You rarely ever hear womens basketball scores on TV sports (Unless they televise them on pay TV, which I don't have). The only real coverage that basketball gets is when the Olympics are on, moreso now because our mens team are competitive and our women are definite gold medal chances.
I'm not a big basketball fan, i've never been to a game (men or women) and like I said, it's not on TV much. But I do like watching our women play.
And is Lauren Jackson regarded as a goddess? Not as much as the likes of Stephanie Rice (swimmer), although being tall, blonde, attractive and having a nude photo shoot done definitely doesn't hurt

Once again, I must look to Universal HD for exciting Olympic coverage. Currently I have no desire to see NBC's pointless showing of the gymnastics exhibition.
Universal HD is showing the women's 20 km walk. Now, that's exciting. At least their competing for something. I should have trained to be a competitive race walker. I could have been on Olympian. _________________

LOL.
Oh yeah, the "Gymnastics Gala"... One last gasp to blow the U.S. gymnastics team horn... It's like the Ice Skating Gala they have in the Winter Olympics.

U.S. women's softball team is upset by Japan in the gold medal match, 3-1.
Sugoi...!
thats an upset and a half, being that the women's US team has been shutting out opponents left and right.

US men's and women's 4x100m relay teams both drop batons. Sugoi!
See what happens when you don't take performance enhancing drugs...you go through withdrawal symptoms, your hands shake, and you drop the baton.
i didn't know choking was a symptom. if thats the case, then you'll have to count Lolo Jones of the US 100M hurdles and sanya richards (Women's 400 Meters) as well. Both heavy favorites but ultimately didn't get the gold. _________________
