Their sales didn't reach Arashi's total copies sold on each singles anyways. 
Now I'm wondering how Arashi did in Korea instead. It was said their singles and albums were selling like hotcakes. The only info I got was on the concert tickets which were sold out within half an hour.

I believe I've read an explanation for that somewhere else time ago~ someone please correct me if I'm wrong XDD If I'm not mistaken, Kouhaku only offers two spots for JE to perform in the show, that why only SMAP and TOKIO attend it, SMAP because it's like a legendary JE group and TOKIO because they're second eldest group and one of the few that differs the most (they play instruments, etc; it's like a real non-JE band) from the traditional boyband with thousands of fangirls (like KT, News, K8...)~
It's not about attending also the Countdown (TOKIO also sing in there right?) or sales (KAT-TUN killed both singles and albums charts back in 2005 and they've never appeared on Kouhaku either)
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong 8DDDD

true. there is the foreign quota needs to be filled for kohaku right?
since JE have their own quota (geee NHK  ) its ok the boys not in it for that one. Kouhaku is kinda epic though. Even I knew about it before learning about Arashi. Kinki Kids & V6 haven't performed in Kouhaku right?
