I finished off Top Sales as well, and I think Cerebus summed it up pretty well.
About half way in I started thinking about a movie I saw a couple of years ago Hi wa Mata Noboru (The Man Behind The VHS) - Staring Nishida Toshiyuki & Watanabe Ken. The story of an industrial triumph, and the people behind it, and the times they lived in.
I had the feeling that they had enough material in Top Sales to do a pretty decent movie. But when they tried to stretch it out over 8, hour long, episodes... it all came out seeming sort of empty.
Hmm. It didn't make me want to buy a Japanese car, but it sure did make me want to look around for more Natsukawa Yui projects to watch. _________________

hmm, i guess i mssed the boat on this one. No more seeders for Top Sales atm, so its gonna be a while for me to check it out...
Got me interested since several folks are commenting on it.
Anyway, got current on Arifureta Kiseki... and am eagerly awaiting for the last 2 subs....
In the meantime, started Proposal Daisakusen... I had this for the longest time but havent watched. Got both the standard and the HD version... Well, after finishing ep1, all I can say is that I think I will really like this series... and the good part is that, all the subs are accounted for...
thanks to subbers who makes it all possible for us to enjoy jdoramas _________________

Unfortunately I don't think there's much more out there drama-wise that is available subbed that you haven't already seen
As far as I'm aware the only subbed Natsukawa Yui dramas are Aoi Tori, Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, Muri na Renai and Top Sales. Although I would love to be proved wrong. However it does look as if her upcoming Spring drama, Yako no Kaidan, will be subbed.

"Blue Bird" is exactly the kind of show I normally avoid like the plague. It's a "tragic romance". That sort of show normally gives me gas. But the cast was phenomenal, and she was absolutely (pardon if I sound like a gay film critic here) luminous.
Started watching this one, finished epi 1. You're right about the cast, in addition to Yui, there's Shiro Sano and Hiromi Nagasaku. Since it was made in 1997 that means no spiky-haired stick boys. If this is 11 episodes of the actors watching paint dry, it's still better than a lot of the stuff that comes out now.

Watched Churasan 4 tonight. It was wonderful and enjoyable as always. ^__^ The way Eri held up 5 fingers before she said anything suggests there will be a sequel? Hope so.
Also watched the first episode of Second Chance the other night. Looks like Brother Beat was based on this, even the name of Tanaka Misako's character is the same. It was fun, definitely looking forward to the rest of the series.

"Second Chance" (1995) & "Brother Beat" (2005) were both written by Eriko Komatsu. Both she and Tanaka wanted to revisit that character 10 years later. The lively, single mom raising three boys.

I don't know if there's much point in working on Ten to Sen if the focus is Yui's performance. She's only got 2 short scenes, playing the sickly, bedridden wife of one of the main characters.

And the subs suck.
Sounds like a poor effort vs. return ratio... Next drama, please.

Yeah. And I looked up her next drama... but it doesn't sound too promising.
Both Yui and Kimura Yoshino are in it, but the premise...

Sayama Michio is a young and callous beautician who will stop at nothing to fulfill his ambition(s). Coming from an impoverished background, he suddenly becomes the darling of the beauty world. He holds women who desire beauty captive and puts on several different faces when dealing with Murase Minako, the female owner of the place that he works at; Hatano Masako, a woman of leisure; and Fukuchi Fujiko, an editor of a weekly magazine to come out tops. He also gets involved with two detectives who are investigating him for a prior incident.
