One of the best of this industry! If not for him and Nakama Yukie i would have never found my love for jdramas. Trick will always have that special place inside my heart. For me, being from such a serious and painfully realist world, to see that people can still create something like this, it gave me hope to go forward. When i first saw it i was in a period where i wanted to give up from life and do something stupid but when my sisters made me watch the first episode of Trick, they saved my life. I couldn't stop laughing for the whole period of the episode!!! I was like, damn i didn't know it was possible for me to laugh like this again! By now i've seen most of his doramas and movies, i would have seen all but i can't find many with english subs. I liked all of his dramas but these have a special place for me: My Little Chef, Kekkon Dekinai Otoko , At home dad, Egao no hosoku. My Little Chef and Egao no hosoku are truly a piece of art. I would love to see Antique and Saigo no bengonin with english subs if anyone knows where i can get them i would be very happy. Did anyone saw him in Tokyo Raiders? His portrayal of a drugged crime lord is impeccable. Imagine how it was to see him form Trick to Tokyo Raiders! Its like the difference from Heaven to Earth! I think he is one of the best actors in the the world not just in Japan. I always assimilate him with Gary Oldman. Their both called chameleons by their fans.
If anyone knows where i can get any of his movies or dramas please share. Except Survive Style 5+ which is absolutely the only one i didn't like, although he was good even in that. I laughed my but off in his first scene.

Victory! Peace! I like him a lot. I have started the Trick series last weekend (ok I am only on episode 2 of season one but I will be getting by slowly)

@vicky20: Your story of changing your life from despair to hopeful after watching Abe Hiroshi in Trick is very touching and uplifting. Thank you for sharing it with us. Hug It is amazing the power that the creative arts can have upon our lives. I agree that watching Abe Hiroshi can help a person have a wonderful change of heart. Plus he is very soothing on the eyes. Wink I haven't seen Trick yet, but I did enjoy him in Kekkon Dekinai Otoko. I am currently watching him in Hero and My Little Chef. Of course he is very good in both. I am going to make sure I see Trick soon. Thank you! Smile

I agree, he was brilliant in Kekkon Dekinai Otoko. Although I really could have lived without seeing his bare behind.

He was funny in CHANGE too.

I think it's his facial expressions. He has the FUNNIEST expressions.

Plus he's just an amazing actor. Probably my favourite J-actor.

Namie Amuro tops the public image satisfaction polls

Xin.sg - Thursday, September 24

Two days ago, a Chinese media company released the results from its 2009 Survey on Satisfaction of Public Image of Japanese Performing Celebrities. Japanese R&B and hip-hop singer Namie Amuro, 32, topped the poll with 906.96 points, surpassing Japan's pop princess Ayumi Hamasaki who ranks close behind at 977.33 points.

Renowned Japanese animation artist, Hayao Miyazaki achieved 879.94 points, while Tanimura Shinji, Abe Hiroshi, Takenouchi Yukata, Utada Hikari, Norika Fujiwara, Sakata Tojuro and Takuya Kimura are all also placed in the top ten positions.

According to reports, this marks the first time a global survey is conducted based on the public's opinion of Japanese performing artistes. The survey results are a combination of the public's opinion and the influential levels of the artistes.

A fashion icon, Amuro continues to remain the media darling of the '90s generation. Her unwavering determination and continuous good album releases have earned her a spot in most people's hearts. From the results of the polls, majority of artistes listed in the top 10 positions belong to the 1970s generation such as Takuya Kimura, Ayumi Hamasaki, and Norika Fujiwara.

After news of Noriko Sakai's drug scandal erupted, the Japanese actress's rapid fall from grace can be noted from the polls as she currently ranks at the bottom and stands at the 98th position out of 100 Japanese celebrities.

Hiroshi Abe, Michiko Kichise co-star in "Shikeidai no Elevator"

Director Akira Ogata is working on a new film called "Shikeidai no Elevator," a remake of the 1958 French suspense film "Ascenseur pour l'echafaud" ("Elevator to the Gallows") by Louis Malle. Hiroshi Abe (45) and Michiko Kichise (34) are set to co-star.

The original film (which starred Maurice Ronet and Jeanne Moreau) told the story of two lovers, Julien and Florence, who plot to murder Florence's husband. Their plan goes perfectly, but Julien makes a mistake in cleaning up the evidence that leads to him getting trapped in an elevator. Meanwhile, his car is stolen by a young couple, causing Florence to mistakenly believe that Julien has disappeared with another woman.

In the remake, Kichise plays the wife of the president of a medical group, while Abe plays a handsome doctor. The supporting cast includes Tetsuji Tamayama (29) and Keiko Kitagawa (23). Kadokawa Pictures is distributing the film, which is scheduled for a fall 2010 release.

I read this article in Japan Today.

Public broadcaster NHK says that soprano queen Sarah Brightman, 49, will sing the theme song for its upcoming drama gSaka no ue no kumoh (Clouds over the hills.) The British artist will sing the song titled gStand Alone,h composed by Joe Hisaishi, 58, and to be performed by the NHK Symphony Orchestra.

gSaka no ue no kumoh will run for five episodes starting Nov 29, with another four episodes to air in late 2010 and the final four in late 2011. Set in the Meiji Period, it centers around Yoshifuru Akiyama\a future general of the Imperial Japanese Army, played by actor Hiroshi Abe, 45. The story is told through him and his fellow officers as they fight an uphill battle during the Russo-Japanese War.
