I don't know... did someone forget to tell the US women's hockey team that this is for the gold? They're playing like a bunch of... well... girls. What's with all this passing the puck back and forth ad nauseum and taking long shots against such an incredible goalie? They need to grow some balls and get deep, overwhelm, and score. Geez... 5 on 3 and they still can't get it in there? Nut

End of second period and I'm ready to concede the victory to Canada. It'll be well-deserved, too. They're playing like a real hockey team. I know it ain't over until the final buzzer, but...

Huzzah! Congrats to the women for winning gold! Now it's time for the men to get it done. Victory! Peace!

Some of those Finnish hockey players... In love

Pulling for Rochette tonight. Going to be a fantastic battle with Asada and Yu-Na, too. Since Yu-Na trains in Toronto, maybe she can help my beloved Maple Leafs on how to skate better and not look like pylons hehe

^I felt a little over-confident all today, having that gut feeling that Canada would win no problem. I think it's the fact that we're the defending champions.

The US might have been intimidated by that, I dunno, but they didn't make it easy! And besides, they're owning the podium. Applaud

Thought I'd link this interview with Ms. Kim Yu-Na from the NBC site. I think she looks really beautiful and the things she talked about were interesting.....

I find it amusing that there was so much less "drama" among the women figure skaters, who I think were all under much more emotional pressure & deeper competition, than in the men's event. Who has the hormonal issues? hehe

The women... all of them... were simply stunning tonight. So great to see skating at the level I expect of Olympic competition. All of them should be proud of the show they gave the world. Applaud Queen Yu-na... there aren't enough words. Strength and beauty in harmony.

Is it too much to hope that Japan will still be proud of Asada's accomplishment of a record 3 triple axels even though she comes home without the gold?

Joannie Rochette... incredible. I'm so happy for her.

Congrats to Yu-Na, Asada, and Rochette. What an entertaining night and I'm not that big of a figure skating fan either!

Asada needs to smile more. She looked pissed/upset when she received her silver medal. I know she wanted to beat her rival and take home the gold, but silver is not to shabby. Victory! Peace!

Okay.

I always wonder about those kinda things... Like when Heath Ledger got the Oscar posthumously for The Dark Knight...

Apples and oranges. Acting is much more subjective. There have been other athletes who've had heartbreaking things happen in their lives as they competed in the Olympics and I've never known any favoritism to be shown.

Last night's judging was actually harsher than it was for the short program. Everyone had their missteps, but overall they also all performed remarkably well... Yu-na just pulled out all the stops and was unbeatable all around.

Nope she was better than the one behind her. We were watching for that.

Feeling a little sad that the skating is over. The Gala night is never as good. Shake Head

Yu-Na was unreal. That was the true gold medal performance.
The girl in 4th had one more major biff than the Canadian girl did.

Shameful Cry

It was an amazing game. I have a new respect for curling now.

I can't believe Korea was DQ'd in the 3000m relay. What a blow, since everyone thought they had won and were already going crazy. I'm not even sure if it was an intentional bump. But one has to trust the referee. I just feel really bad for them.

I sort of felt a bit bad for her. I mean, in the short program she goes before Kim and puts down a huge performance, and you could see how excited and happy she was right then. Kim comes on the ice and sets a new world record, beating her by a few points.

Then, in the free skate, Kim goes first and again puts the hammer down with a fabulous performance with a new world record (even surprising Kim). So now Asada has to skate knowing that the only way to get Gold is to score a new world record by 4 or 5 points. She probably knew that there was no way she would get the Gold when she was waiting for her score. I think she was a bit stunned and dejected.
