Watched "Movie II" a second time. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I enjoyed this second viewing even more so than the first - maybe this time round I was prepared to see Nodame in anguish.

I think this was why I thought I liked Movie I after I've first seen Movie II. In the drama Nodame was always fluffy, even when she's in pain. Case in point - her conversation with Chiaki after the Maradonna competition. Even though she was in pain her attire and body language were still funny. In Movie II, as I said in a previous post, she's more 'normal'. It's like after all these years you finally get to see the girl behind Nodame.

The great thing about Juri-sama's acting is that this looked like Nodame being really sad, not Ueno Juri acting the role of a sad girl (I hope this makes sense). Although the expression of emotion deviated slightly from the manga, it was still great.

Yow, you're really whetting my appetite... Sounds like there's much more drama involved in Movie 2... Not surprising, since their relationship has gotten more serious and they're really adults now... Victory! Peace!

Looking forward to this final act in the Nodame canon. w00t!

I forgot to say a few words about the music. This movie was all about Nodame versus Movie I which was about Chiaki. In addition to Nodame's debut we got to hear bits and pieces of Nodame's homework. However what impressed me most was Beethoven's 'Pathetique' and Mozart's Sonata for 2 Pianos.

Both pieces where 'relics' from the drama and had special significance to Nodame and Chiaki. This time round you can hear how Nodame has matured as a pianist, especially with the solo piece, 'Pathetique'. At the end of the movie when they played the Mozart sonata again you can hear very clearly the difference compared to their first cooperaton in episode 1 of the drama.

I know that in reality Lang Lang was playing Nodame's part instead of a lesser known Japanese pianist in the drama, but it was the attention to such details that made the whole Nodame experience so fulfilling.

That was similar to the two-part SP.

I can really understand their significance: Pathetique was the first piece that Chiaki heard Nodame play and Sonata for Two Pianos was their romantic interlude and the shape of things to come... It all comes full circle. Victory! Peace! Applaud

Re: Movie 1.

From the broadcast version, it didn't appear that Tanihara Shosuke had a very big role in the movie... Is this true of the theatrical release or was stuff edited out in the broadcast version? Sweat

Okay, I took a quick browse through the DVD of Movie 1 and noticed that these scenes were deleted (which probably accounts for the missing 15 minutes in the broadcast version):

1. Opening orchestra performance with Chiaki conducting and Nodame in the audience.
2. Auditions for the Roux-Marlet orchestra were trimmed down.
3. Various scenes with Nodame and Chiaki. :pale:
4. Scene with Rui's mother, Rui, and Chiaki.
5. Conductor scenes with Matsuda Yukihisa (Tanihara Shosuke).
6. Closing scenes after Nodame was in tears from the Roux-Marlet performance.

To no one's surprise, I think these removed scenes and the added stuff with Stresemann in the broadcast version sort of made a mess of the movie... Sweat

Waiting for the SARS version of the DVD/Blu-Ray release would be the better choice...

One other note: In relation to the anime, Movie 1 covers the middle to end of Paris Hen and the first episode of Finale... Smile
