I previously posted photographs but here is a quick video of the ryokan I stayed in outside of Kyoto. It had the coolest toilet I've seen in Japan....motion sensor equipped.

Yeah my friend and I were blown away. Heck, the whole inn only has two rooms and the other one wasn't occupied during our stay. Well with massive rooms like that it's no wonder it only has two rooms.

Yeah that place is pretty posh. The rooms are so big though you could easily sleep numerous ppl in each room...hence the second story.

Yup. We only stayed there one night though. Sweat

When I spoke to the okami <inn keeper> she had asked me in Japanese where else we were staying while in Kyoto and I gave her the name of the hotel...she came back at me in Japanese...to roughly translate in English: "Oh, that's a nice place...but our place is better." hehe Cracked me the hell up....

I don't think these stores are a new thing as might be interpreted from the article. They've even had one at the formerly named "Yaohan Plaza" for several years. Interesting read though.

Perhaps. Smile

I like how you posted this article in that it nicely juxtaposes with your post about the most expensive cities, Tokyo topping the list.

Tokyo IS mad expensive but there are opportunities to be frugal in order to save some yen.

For real. Don't think all the people living there are buying luxury goods and living in the clouds despite the penchant for nice things.
