For anybody in the Los Angeles area interested in seeing Summer Wars (dubbed in English though) on the big screen it is currently playing in Hollywood at the Sunset 5 Laemmle Theater

After seeing Paprika, I have this sudden urge to see some more anime, so I'm downloading Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time...
Paprika really messes with your head. Good movie though.
I watched Appleseed on the weekend: The animation is super-impressive, even considering it was a downloaded 700mb avi file converted to DVD on the big screen. Very enjoyable! I have Summer Wars but haven't watched it yet.

Applessed ex-machina?
The visuals are indeed amazing and the designs really follow the originals that Masamune Shirow did 25 years ago. Sad that the story doesn't stick much to the manga and rather goes into cliches and sappiness. :/

Summer Wars is very entertaining. It also incorporates some art work from famed Japanese pop artist Takashi Murakami.

No, the 2004 Appleseed. Appleseed Ex Machina was released in 2007. I'm going to watch that next

It looks good. I have it in .mkv with a separate English sub file, so i'll have to do a bit of work before I can watch it

Following Kimi ni Todoke season 2. Desperately slow the first couple of episodes but getting better in episode 3. Sawako's smile is really beautiful, when it eventually happened.
Also watched the first 9 episodes of GTO. Engaging and drew me in, even though I knew the gist of the story already. The endings for story arcs weren't as neat and comprehensive as in the drama.

I just started watching this as well. The cast of side characters is still pretty funny. Good for a few laughs.

Just watched SUMMER WARS and it was every bit as entertaining and soul-stirring as the premise, poster art and reviews promised. (Thanks for the rec, Tu and beemer, much appreciated! ) I think I enjoyed this even more than I did THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME and quite possibly just as much as SPIRITED AWAY. The painstaking detail that went into making sure each family member was unique but fully believable -- that ALONE makes this film a must-see.
And woah woah -- I just looked up the voice actor who portrayed Kenji and I CAN'T BELIEVE he also did the voice (more like baby sounds anyway) of Yubaba's elephantine tot in SPIRITED AWAY (!!!), and also acted in BLOODY MONDAY 2 as the evil hackerboy nemesis, Hornet (whom I seriously wanted to PUNCH IN THE FACE every time). Who knew, right?

I had the reverse feelings: I enjoyed The Girl Who Leapt through Time more than Summer Wars mainly because I felt the story was more original and unique...
