Re: "Confessions".

I am a Matsu Takako fan. And a Kimura Yoshino fan, and I'd been planning on watching the movie... until I read the synopsis. After that I decided to just give it a pass and watch the grass grow.

But you got me thinking about it again, so I figured... if it could keep you away from the laundry... maybe the grass could get along without me for a bit.

The long and the short is... What an nteresting movie! And I hesitate to say it, because there weren't a lot of laughs in it, but... What a good movie!

Like everyone who goes to movies, or watches tv, I've seen a million "revenge" based stories. But this was an original, and once I started I couldn't stop.

Thanks for mentioning it.

For anime, I don't know if having it on Blu-Ray buys you any marked improvement...

Even for live action, you really need some rather high-end equipment to see a real Blu-Ray to DVD difference... Sweat

Indeed. I guess you'd have to be a serious audio/videophile with some a small fortune invested in your home theater equipment.

I have a very basic setup....flat panel LED LCD, blu-ray player with a sound bar and powered subwoofer. It suits me well enough. The gyabo's and mukyaa's come across vividly enough. Wink

glad you went ahead and watch it after all. I agree with you too. Definitely an original. It's sooo good. Just when i thought it ended with the milk cartons, more and more just keep coming. The end was fabulous.all the slow motion scenes were perfect too. I hope it'll win some awards.

Well I ended up doing so redundantly. When I bought a new panel to replace a CRT set that was actually damaged by carpet cleaning morons <don't ask> I decided to get a new BD player at the same time since the new TV was an HD set. Didn't forsee buying a PS3, which also has a BD player.

Oppo?

Nah, I wish! Those cost a mint. Just a Samsung, same brand as the panel. At least I can take advantage of high definition Japanese drama and film files, as with the Nodame Cantabile films.

Yeah, the Oppo is a pricey unit... Around $600, I think.

I'm dating myself (yet again), but I remember paying $800+ for my first VCR. Crazy

Yes, indeed. Those were the two best theatrically released anime in recent memory.

For Nakatani Miki fans at ADC.....

Golden Torrent too!

Synopsis:
Underneath the veneer of orderly lives, frozen smiles and awkward averted glances, SWEET LITTLE LIES is a cold-as-steel clinical study of a couple. Married for three years, the couple keeps up the apparently tender rituals of newlyweds, but all is not as bright and beautiful as it would seem. Miki Nakatani, gthe best Japanese actress of her generationh (Mark Schilling, Japan Times) plays the emotionally and sexually starved wife in Hitoshi Yazakifs anti-melodramatic chronicle of the disintegration of a marriage. Even the most seasoned viewers will be struck by the menacing calm of Yazakifs compositions, and his unveiling of lives made from lies.

Just finished watching The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (finally! ashamed)... Really really good. Applaud

What I really like about Japanese animated films is that their stories/plots don't pander to kids and have novel, intelligent ideas. Victory! Peace! Applaud

American animated films is typically (mostly?) wise-cracking talking animals or similar BS... bleh

The last American animated film that had any intelligence and/or thought to it was probably Fantasia in 1940....
