What an absolutely ludicrous waste of food. I hate food eating competitions--gluttony (which is bad enough) taken to a ridiculous shameful level.

I have to say I share your sentiment. Makes you wistful for the days of the Dotch Cooking Show...but here in the States we have shows like Man v. Food which celebrate the glutton as a hero. Shake Head

Yup. Went to the parade the first Sunday and went to the Taiko gathering yesterday.

An interesting thing happened. While I was waiting for the Taiko to start I went over to the JACCC because they always have a calligraphy demonstration. When I went in I ran into one of the women I know that works at Book-Off, her name is Noriko. At first I thought she was just there to watch the calligraphy artists but it turned out she was one of the ones giving the demonstration! And she's good! Applaud Bikkurishite!!

Wow, that's cool. I've only seen calligraphy being in written on television. Sounds like you had a good time.

^ Sorta gross that he'd choose a red-colored drink during the contest as opposed to just water... bleh

As if the contest itself wasn't hard enough to stomach...no pun intended.

Me and my friends had an awesome time at the closing ceremonies. Ondo was fun. I do it every year, but they've never done it before.

Nisei Week was a blast, but at least we don't have long until another great festival in Little Tokyo.

Basically, it's Nisei Week Lite, but still a lot of fun.

So it is going to be a Doubletree. Lame.....

They should have just demolished that thing and turned it into a mixed use development with retailers, office space, and residential living with an eye to Japanese culture.

I know in keeping with the theme of Japanese culture, they should at least call it Cypress Tree.
