Finished Soredemo, Ikite Yuku.

Best drama I've watched this year. Excellent performances by the entire cast, especially Mitsushima Hikari. Highly recommended. Applaud

I would disagree. It's not the best drama this year, it's the best I've seen in several years!! There were only three dramas that I had ever given a "10" to - "Long Vacation", "Shomuni 2" and "Odoru Daisassousen". Now there's four.

And I agree about Hikari Mitsushima. It says she was in an asadora "Hitomi" which I saw but I can't remember her at all in that. But she really served notice in this. I'm going to be keeping an eye out for what she does next! Applaud

^^ Hikari is no newcomer, she's done many, many solid things up into now though mainly movies, though was quite good in Moteki, most known for Love Exposure though Sawako Decides was a much better role for her. Victory! Peace!
Currently started another drama, Don Quixote, thru 2 episodes it's okay but hard to believe this is an 11 episode show, gotta feeling it's gonna drag a lot in the middle. bleh

She played a main character in another asadora recently, Ohisama. Most/all of it have been translated so may be you would like to take a look at it. From the little I have seen, her character is a rebellious free spirit, at a time when society didn't really have a place for people like that.

Found it, thanks!! Thanx!

Only watched the first episode. 1 down, 155 to go!! It's good we're starting to see dramas set during World War II. Ten years ago if you had asked them to do a drama set during the war, they would have said, "War? What war?"

That one took awhile to grow on me but I really like Matsuda as the yakuza trapped in the body of a counselor. He was great! Don't expect much from Uchida though. If you've seen her dance the salsa with Katsumi that's about all she does. Uchida and Riko Narumi are both pretty much wasted in this one. Shake Head

Still doubt you'll see any depictions regarding the Rape of Nanking. They'd probably call it a slumber party.

Very perceptive. Thumbsup They showed about 10 seconds of old war newsreel footage and the narrator very casually said, "Meanwhile Japan and China had started their war." Made it sound like they had nothing better to do, so why not have a war. Shake Head

Anyway, polished off episodes 1-6. That's the great thing about asadoras, the episodes are so short you just zing right thru them. Mao finally showed up in episode 6. For awhile it drove me nuts trying to figure out who Terawaki Yasufumi was. I knew the voice but I couldn't place him. Finally the light went on, "Aibou!!" I'm so used to him with his Air Force jacket and spiky hair I didn't recognize him. Bonk

Checking out Oishii Gohan. Has potential but the subs aren't great.

Finished Yamato nadeshiko henge. I liked it. Kind of wacky but funny.

Victory! Peace!

Are they going to give her that long hair for the entire drama? I noticed in the preview for ep 3 that Naoko has wavy hair... anyway, I'm thinking of dropping the drama. I really don't like Naoko and Masato, and I'd be happy if Aya pwned Naoko every step of the way but I know that's probably not going to happen. How was ep 3 for you?

I'm up to episode 4 - she still has that stupid fake hair but it seems next week is the big cut off!!! Actually the only reason why I didn't drop it is because it airs at a time when I'm for some reason always at home.
I don't recommend A Taste of Honey at all!

I also saw one or two episodes of the Kitagawa Keiko drama, that seemed even worse ...

She shows up in episode 7. According to the subs she's a "prominent deliquent". I have no idea what a "prominent delinquent" is, but I guess we'll find out.

I watched the first four episodes of Himitsu Chouchouin Erika. It's actually kinda interesting. Not a lot of depth (but it's hard to squeeze depth into 30 minute episodes). However, I think the concept of it being a different kinda spy show and watching Kuriyama Chiaki's fighting skills makes it intriguing.

Episode 3 of Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de. The interaction between Sho and Keiko's characters is what's carrying the show. The cases just don't have that much depth or interest in them, although the preview of the next episode looked pretty interesting.

Indeed I have to agree with you on this, still the cases are entertaining enough to keep it fun. This show is giving me some good laughs Applaud

A trouble maker who stands out, is what they mean I think. Hikari's face looks a bit too dark and bony for me in this. I watched a few episodes and then got distracted and haven't gone back to it since. I will probably watch Soredemo (don't know when) before I go back to this.

^ Ah, that makes sense. You'd think after all these years of watching dramas I'd be able to read between the lines better!!

Getting back to Soredemo Ikite for a minute, I forget to mention Otake Shinobu. She was excellent in this, all raw nerve endings. Oddly enough she was in another drama that was pretty emotional, Yasashii Jikan.

If any Japanese director decides to do a remake of A Woman Under the Influence, I know who to cast in the lead.

Watched Strawberry Night, pretty good, although the baddies were kinda huh. Takeuchi Yuko was believable as a tough-ass cop, but wish they gave Nishijima Hidetoshi more to work with.

I've heard that before. Victory! Peace!

I'm watching light dramas tho these days.

Oishii Gohan is very good but the bad subs are making me search for a better version.

It's been okay, don't mind having Shota in almost every scene, he's been one of my fave actors over the last few years and shame about Yuki's part, had it set up where she played that tough Yakuza wife, could have done more with that. Grumble
Also trying to do rewatches of some of my all time favorite dramas, this week it's Heaven's Coins season 1. Victory! Peace!
